Leviathan Warships Review

By Jon Ireson in Reviews

Leviathan Warships is a turn-based naval simulator featuring full co-operative and competitive multiplayer as well as a single player campaign and is available now on PC on platforms such as Steam published by Paradox Interactive. In this title players take full advantage of upgrading and essentially constructing their naval ships from scratch. Each turn is programmed out including cool-down ratios which must be taken into account every time a move is made. If you want to expect a good amount of damage to be deflected then you need to not only decide where to move your ships and where to aim their attacks, but you also need to keep track of which direction your ship is facing. There are only certain shield protections that you will be able to fit onto your ship as balanced with your weaponry. This is all based on the weight of each additional piece to your ship.

Strategizing which part of the ship serves you best for defense and offense in combination with which load-out is efficient for the mission at hand will largely comprise of the calculations before and during the match.

Unfortunately we feel that Leviathan Warships needs to learn more from Tower Defense and Real Time Strategy genres. A lot of lost potential exists where it comes to the controls and ease-of-use of this game. Fanatics who can get passed this will definitely enjoy the game’s extensive attention to detail and simulation as well as the precise strategic and tactical decisions that are necessary to be made in order to survive in Leviathan Warships. However, for many newcomers it will feel like they are simply rolling the dice and facing whatever outcomes hits them next in the multiplayer segment of the game.

The game features some interesting moments especially when playing with a friend. You will find yourselves struggling to deal with the slow pace of the game but wanting to keep playing and playing. The ship simulation in this naval turn-based game will have you wanting to sit back and make a fleet of ships but you may find a little bit of disappointment in the fact that you won’t be able to really max out their potential without meticulous and sometimes frustrating customization of your ship parts. Turrets and shields as well as more unlock-able items must be juggled and trial and error often occurs on the road to finding the ultimate mix of equipment.

Graphically the game is pretty stunning and you will often find yourself staring off at the graphics before your eyes. The Art Direction helps to bring out some of the finer aspects of battle and keeps you focused on the task at hand. It is easy to see and identify targets and objectives as well as signal your turns and plan your attacks.

Final Verdict- The community behind Paradox Interactive titles keeps players coming back for more. If you find your way over to their forums, there’s no reason you wouldn’t be able to make some great friends and keep yourself on Leviathan Warships for some time to come. There’s nothing truly like this title and that’s what makes it great, we just would have liked to see a more potent result to the fine inner workings of the customization system reflected through more intense battle scenes. Some saving grace features include the ability to save with online cloud as well as cross-platform play. Overall this game gets a 6.5 out of 10 from RealGamerNewz.
