Denpa Men 3 Review RGN

The Denpa Men 3: The Rise of Digitoll is a fairly recent release on Nintendo 3DS eShop from this Spring which is also known as Denpa Ningen no RPG 3 in Japan, and they sure got the “no RPG” part right. This game is great because it provides a role playing game experience for players who might not be good at other hardcore / traditional titles in the genre. This game is also bad because the fighting turns always feel completely automatic and advanced players deserve a better mode to play with for their expert enjoyment. It simply is not very fun for experts of the genre. The graphics are pretty neutral with very basic 3D models used typically and not much texture placed on top of them. This leaves the game feeling like a budget production.

I wouldn’t recommend this game because it feels like it was made for very small children and it’s very annoying in terms of dialogue, hand-holding gameplay, and fails to provide the fun factor gamers are looking for in the RPG genre. The soundtrack really grinds you down as if meant for very young audience, perhaps a daycare would play tunes like this I’d imagine. If this game’s official trailer doesn’t bore you to sleep though, there might be a place for you in The Denpa Land.

On the upside of things, the game has a huge following who enjoy it and here’s some of the things that the experience has to offer those who don’t get the same vibe I did from it.

  • Capture Denpa Men in the real world by aiming all over difference places in real life with your Nintendo 3DS Camera.
  • Equip Elemental Attacks, Adventure Across Varying Settings at Sea and on Land.
  • Gain items to go fishing, visit shops, and full towns as well as caves and dungeon – type areas with your Denpa Men.
  • Denpa Men level up their attributes, skills, and attacks as you go with a heavy emphasis on leveling up individual Denpa Men.
  • The Denpa Land houses quests including a main story-line in which the main playable character is randomly selected and must track down and save their friends.
  • Many hours of gameplay – potentially 30 – 40 for those who are very quick at beating games, but even more for those who seek to experience everything.

Where the niche appeal of this game comes into play perhaps lie in the fact that everything is tradeable online including borrowing other people’s Denpa Men through the multiplayer online lobby made possible via Nintendo 3DS WiFi connectivity to an existing Internet connection device. The developer allows various regions to communicate with each other across the globe this way and trade items. Back log support is allowed, so if you’re a fan of the series – you can bring your pre-existing Denpa Men to this title, similar to Pokemon transfers.

Final Verdict:

Augmented reality felt cool at first, but I was supremely let down by how little it meant to me to capture each Denpa Man. The game’s tutorials are thick and heavy. The learning curve for a game that doesn’t include any real meaty gameplay winds up leaving The Denpa Men 3: The Rise of Digitoll for Nintendo 3DS a negligible release. The game has a very niche appeal and most of you reading this right now would probably not like it. It’s simply missing too much substance from the RPG genre it pulls from. Despite its longevity and respect from many gamers in this industry, RealGamerNewz cannot award this game a high rating. Check the official trailer and overall score below for our last thoughts.
