A survivor is born…..or is it? Square Enix reboot of the Tomb Raider series leaves questions like among playing the game. Crystal Dynamics Developer is the new studio while Core Design made the original six titles in the series. This game was told to show a darker side and how she became the women she is the other games without destroying Lara Craft character.
Soundtrack, Audio, Voice: The overall tone of the soundtrack fits the either mystical, survival, or epic moments of the game. It makes you feel like your Lara Croft even if you are a male (like myself). The audio of the sounds of weapon firing or just landing are done very well. There are times there is a delay but its not noticeable since it will put you back into the action. Voice actors can add emotion or just come off trying to hard the voice actor that does the best job was Camilla Luddington the actress for Lara Croft.
Graphics, Physics, Glitches, Engine Performance: The Graphics in this game are by far some of the best out of any video game to date. The characters look very real and some of them you can make out emotion on there face others might be programmed to look a certain way but Lara Croft shows the most emotion out of anybody. The Physics may be a bit unrealistic at some points and some times lock on like a leap into things but it works out pretty well. Glitches in the single player are very rare unless you try to get them. The multiplayer is extremely bad in glitches though it does not make it hard to play its just way to many glitches. The new engine called Crystal Engine which runs very smoothly in nearly aspect expect for the multiplayer. It looks like it was designed for scenery and emotions which does a near perfect job at.
Multiplayer: The ideas in the multiplayer are good and remind me of Uncharted. But as it seems it was just slapped onto the game within a two month period makes it seem bad at some points. It is extremely glitchy the lag is not bad but people fall through floors and can still kill you. The modes are also very few but they are not bad its just sometimes they become near impossible to play. As for classes and characters go you unlock and upgrade which is a similar system to any game out there but with a Tomb Raider twist on things.
Characters/Enemies: Few characters in this game are appealing but the ones that are you remember. Lara Croft, Roth, and Mathias seem like the best made characters to me. Lara and Roth have a father and daughter connection even though hes not her dad. Mathias is the cult leader of stranded men on the island and most of the game seems insane but ends up not being crazy at all. Despite Lara is the only character with any true development the other I mentioned are good to. The enemy factions are easy to outwit some are stupid grunts others animals it is till you get to the mystery faction its just a bit harder.
Gameplay: The way it feels is like a cinematic experiencing. For example its like playing Uncharted a lot like that. But it has its own set up more action than Uncharted at times a inventory similar to the Arkham games. The climbing in it is superior to games like Assassin’s Creed. The overall it is basically quick time events and cinematic.
Story: From crashing a strange Island to finding out the truth behind it is a quite an adventure with its downsides. Tomb Raider brings you back into Lara Crofts shoes as you try to find a way out of the island. For a while its one bad thing after another until you start getting your stuff together. The idea of survival at all cost did not touch me it felt like you were just fighting people. The whole mystery aspect was done well but I can not go big into it without spoiling it for everyone. It overall was the best Tomb Raider in terms of story.
Final Verdict: Tomb Raider reboot was an interesting idea. I would not say it is the best one ever. It is a good game don’t get me wrong but not good enough. I give Tomb Raider a 7.75 out of 10.
