The Sony PlayStation 4 has been enjoying free reign in the press as the only fully announced next generation console from the video game industry’s next hardware cycle, but not for long. The original April 27 date has been officially pushed back to May 21, 2013 numbering the PS4’s days of being the only confirmed next-gen system extended but running out.
According to Xbox 720 leak sources close to the project the game system will not use the name “Xbox 720″ but instead bring on a new name (this is not finalized yet). The system is also reported as being a shift for the console manufacturer away from PowerPC chips and into the AMD x86 ease-of-development world which PC and PlayStation 4 currently share. Game developers may be able to truly capitalize on innovative ideas and hardware features next-generation with such a shift occurring across the entire spectrum of games, but will it remains to be seen whether or not the original brands identities and unique feels will begin to die when this takes place.
Currently this is all to be taken as Rumor and Speculation for the time being as Microsoft has refused to confirm/deny any information regarding the Xbox 720 until their own official reveal has taken place, which money has it is going to be May 21, 2013.
