PlayStation Vita 1st Party Accessories Trailer Released

Check out the latest trailer to surface regarding the PlayStation Vita’s upcoming release in Japan. Many eyes have been hot on the trail of this handheld which sports rear and front cameras, high-resolution graphics, dual analog thumbsticks (not nubs), and of course front touch screen and rear touch pad. Anything less than first party accessories for such a beast of a game system would just be uncivilized. And so, here we are with a trailer revealing some of the tech you can pick up by Sony for accessorizing your Vita with.

Once upon a time we were all to be wowed, amazed, and excited by the PC footage of BF3 and sworn testimonials of hundreds of game journalists and PR departments clamoring that BF3 on consoles was something to behold. PSA: RAGE Side-Content Cannot Be Completed After Subway Town

In this Public Service Announcement brought to you by RealGamerNewz, find out what you can do to prevent having the side-content locked out of your RAGE play-through and when exactly this event is triggered.

RAGE has released and reviews and articles of all kinds are pouring in both positive and negative regarding the game’s quality, fun factor, and various other attributes. While all in all, the game’s engine looks amazing to us in terms of hit detection and graphics, we are sad to report that a major bug mentioned by only a small number of the available review material has been discovered. It has been discovered by RealGamerNewz member BoodyBandit on the Xbox 360 version of the game and appears to have a workaround. Consider this article a Public Service Announcement to gamers worldwide who might otherwise not have known about it and thus suffered a massive inconvenience to say the least.

Without giving away any spoilers, anyone who has been playing through the game for some time now knows that halfway through the area called Subway Town’s missions a shadowy entity largely changes . At this point in time, doors that were once open in the game become locked, and people who gave out side-missions and races are either gone or refusing to do so from now on. This renders all of the side-content in the game useless and prevents 100% completion from taking place! The precise time in the game that this happens is about 3 missions into Subway Town. Everything must be done before then.

Further information we can provide beyond this is that the Final Mission, once completed, will never be removed from your objectives and instead the game will always pit you against the final mission every time you load after completion.

It also appears that the dialog in the game would suggest you were supposed to be able to go back to complete the side-content after the final mission. For example, characters are found saying that they will re-host races when “The Authority” leaves, yet this never happens due to the save file always pitting you against the final mission as stated above. If this is something Id can fix then by god we pray that they make a statement soon. For now, play at your own risk and consider using one of the following workarounds which may be able to help avoid the same situation BoodyBandit found himself in.

Workaround #1: Create many save files. Some people do this instinctively when playing games but you really never know which files you will end up needing plus some games limit the amount of saves you can create. So now you know not to overwrite the ones that take place before Subway Town because of this article. Keep some on hand with good weapons and all of the side-content still available.

Workaround #2: Start a second play-through. This may be a pretty brutal workaround for most people, especially if you have already completed a great deal of the side-content. Unfortunately, if you didn’t happen to create spare save files and likewise didn’t know about this glitch before now it may be too late to do anything else. Until a patch emerges from Id or at least an acknowledgement of this issue, this will have to be the recourse for many who discovered the glitch after already triggering the side-content to be locked out.

Workaround #3: Look for mods (PC Version Only). If you have the PC Version you may be able to create or find some type of modification to the game that would allow for side-content to be accessed again. This is essentially cheating and will most likely not help you earn achievements on Steam or anything, but at least you won’t have to start all over again or use some one else’s save files.

There are also a number of glitches reported including falling through the map when fighting through the final missions such as the bandit car missions, lock-on failures, vehicle glitches, and save data corruption causing glitches to be saved. So be careful and aware about when and where you are saving in the game!

Despite the graphical and gameplay quality being great, the bugs being reported are rightfully labeled as outrageous by many. It is quite sad because this game seems like it had the potential to be a flawless masterpiece but may have been rushed at the last minute. This is yet another example for gamers to witness that our industry needs to be doing way more testing on the games they release to the public at top dollar pricing.

In conclusion the game still has a lot of positives to it and every shooter fan should experience it at least once. We are not attempting to refute that. The creatures and weaponry are very diverse. The difficulty, gameplay, and graphics are great as well. However people deserve to know if their game will lose functionality at some point and here we feel that these simple workarounds need to be presented since at this time RAGE side-content cannot, in fact, be completed after Subway Town.

Which console really has the most exclusives in 2011?

Every year holiday shopping takes place. New users flood into the gaming industry and holiday shoppers may or may not know the current state of the game industry. One of the many factors going through a buyer’s mind when looking at which console to gift their loved ones is the library of exclusive titles that can only be experienced on each system. Retailers bolstering PS Vita pre-orders with fake release dates? (Play-Asia responds)


The PlayStation Vita, successor to the PlayStation Portable, will be launching in Japan December 17, 2011 with a lineup of 26 titles including the exclusive shooter/action/adventure title Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Army Corps of Hell, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II Plus, Dark Quest, Lord of Apocalypse and more. There have also been a series of other announcements for the system including the HD re-masterings of Final Fantasy X, shooter/action/espionage hits Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2, and a yet-to-be-named Call of Duty title committed by Activision during the PlayStation Meeting 2011.

With all of the excitement pouring out of Tokyo Games Show 2011’s PlayStation Vita coverage many gamers are opening a new opportunity for this dual-joystick, high-fidelity graphics machine to enter their gaming lives. With the media and public currently scattering to determine whether or not December 31, 2011 is a “placeholder” date for the United States release date of the PlayStation Vita (which it probably is) the possibility of importing the hardware has come to the minds of many gamers on the net.

Immediately sharing this thought, the folks over at Play-Asia have already begun taking reserves for the PlayStation Vita on their website, made famous by willingness to do overseas shipping to importers. However, something is wrong with this picture.

Play-Asia is currently taking orders for the United States (see image here) with a release date listed as December 2011 whereas they are not taking reservations yet for the Japan hardware which they have listed as TBA, or To Be Announced (see image here) even though December 17, 2011 is the confirmed date of release.

GameStop is accepting pre-orders for both models of the PlayStation Vita’s United States hardware unit listing a December 31, 2011 release date (see image here) as well, in addition to this both Play-Asia and GameStop have listed a number of United States region PlayStation Vita games for December 2011 release, despite Sony’s “early 2012” statement.

To further add to the confusion, PlayStation Vita has been listed on Sony’s own website here with a December 31, 2011 release date. Considering Sony has steadily stated that they are planning to release the Vita in the US during “early 2012” could this be an attempt at retailers and possibly even Sony themselves to bolster pre-orders for the PlayStation Vita using a fake, placeholder date? Does anyone out there honestly believe Sony would release the PlayStation Vita in the United States on New Years’ Eve of 2011? Something seems fishy here and gamers who want the hardware as soon as possible will be stuck playing the waiting game until this whole mess is cleared up once and for all.

When contacted for further comment, top importers Play-Asia responded with the following statement:

“Dear Jon,

Thank you for your information. We are will check with our supplier and update the available date of our products.

For the Japanese version of PS vita, it is not ready for reservation or pre-order at this moment. The purchasing cost of Japanese version console could fluctuate a lot in the first batch of stock. We have to control the pre-order carefully. We don’t want to buy at a high cost and sell at a high price to our customer.

We are now getting more update information from the Tokyo Game Show. We will update the product information as soon as possible.

The real reason Sony’s new EULA blocked class action lawsuits

Recently PlayStation Network has been updated to version 3.70 by many users who may have noticed that the new EULA and Terms of Service agreement blocks class action lawsuits from taking place. Users have the right to refuse the update and remain on the current version of their software, but will not be able to sign into PlayStation Network should they choose not to accept these new terms. Many people have recently begun to criticize Sony for this move.

Everyone remembers the data breach of the PlayStation Network which Sony has suffered through since the self-proclaimed ‘hacktivist’ group Anonymous took to the cyber-streets for what they considered to be unlawful actions taken by Sony. One class-action lawsuit you might remember that relates to this incident is the one started by the Rothken Law Firm on behalf of PlayStation Network users against Sony. The problem with class action lawsuits like this is that they are truly meant to enrich the few at the expense of many. Most class-action lawsuits end up with settlements of large amounts that are eaten up by lawyer fees which a firm like Rothken Law Firm themselves started and really don’t need to charge the parties involved.

Seeking punitive damages for a network breach sounds reasonable enough, until you bear in mind that cyber-terrorism is on the rise and every entity out there is vulnerable to a large group like Anonymous. This group had just finished hacking entities such as PayPal, MasterCard, Visa, and even the United States Government before setting their scope on Sony’s PlayStation Network. For gamers to blame the tech giant seems a bit unrealistic when much larger entities doing far more transactions were unable to evade this group’s attacks. Should users take up a class action lawsuit against everyone jacked into the net next? It’s akin to suing a car company because mechanics exist and one group of them stole from the car owner. While everyone was out for Sony’s blood they lost site of the real issue, a large hacker group runs vigilante on the internet doing as they please and Homeland Security may be investigating them but have still not put a clear end to their digital vandalism and theft.

Readers will also recall that when the OtherOS feature was removed prior to these hacking attacks and the Sony vs. GeoHot debacle, a class action lawsuit eventually sprung up for that event as well claiming Sony had unlawfully went against the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. The main reason for removing the OtherOS feature was to prevent pirating and hacking of games which damage the sustainability of game consoles from a business standpoint.

It is this author’s belief that the real reason Sony’s new EULA blocked class action lawsuits from arising stems from the nature of many of the recent class action cases brought against them such as those outlined above. In protecting their own financial stability and ability to deliver for the faithful customers who would rather continue to sign in than reserve their right to sue the company, Sony is doing what they feel is necessary to shut the floodgates. What may appear to some as an anti-consumer move here really seems more like a spearhead against ‘hacktivist’ apologists and sue-happy consumers who are willing to jeopardize the company they get their games from rather than accept the realities related to the real threat, cyber-terrorism.
