Why #Meltdown and #Spectre Vulnerabilities Effect Gamers Worldwide, Especially VR Gamers

It’s Real Dude, This Is Happening

Apparently all computers are at risk to new vulnerabilities leaving everything on your computer at risk to effortless hacking via Meltdown and Spectre which were discovered this week. The patches and updates being put out to solve these issues will reduce performance of computers anywhere between 30-400%!!!ūüė†ūüĒ•.

You might be sitting right now comfortably in your DXRacer chair with your Vive, PS4 Pro, 4KTV, and self-righteous positive attitude thinking ‘this stinks, but doesn’t effect me’. You’re wrong. Your hardware is in danger. If you think ‘I just won’t run the update’ then think again. All of your accounts and passwords to every program and all your data ‘kinda’ matter when you can’t use your Steam and someone steals your payment info.

Identity theft isn’t easily reset bro. That’s why there’s a whole industry for preventing it and insurances for court when you get plucked by the man in a mask overseas just racking up charges on ingame currency with your profile. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg for how this effects gamers. Think you’re not effected? You’re wrong. Continue reading to find out how these security issues will inevitably hurt the video games industry.

By the way, There’s no avoiding this. All major tech giants have been working in secret to try to solve these issue for 90 days and still haven’t rolled out any updates and have been trying to keep the vulnerabilities a secret from everyone including the coders working on it.

Conclusion:

I’m saying this flaw effects everyone and those who can take advantage of it will spread it like a virus and use it against people. On top of that, the update is going as far as Linux machines so that means Windows and Apple will also update their software and guess what? Now we have performance drops in games and some not playable on lower-end hardware and now tech industries will make more money selling GPUs we wouldn’t have needed yet.

The performance hit also effects VR but the industry is so small it might not be able to recover from the blow and boom now we’re back to being spoonfed shit games because everyone refuses innovation. TLDR;¬†Long story short, you’re looking at a major shift of industry trying to be played off like water running off a duck’s back when in reality it’s more like lava.

WTF Wednesdays: “NAZI is not a valid word” – ??? – Words With Friends 2

Video game companies all over the world are subject to government regulations against free speech – some for good reason, others just for an unidentified purpose. While playing the mobile title Words With Friends 2 Online the other day it was discovered that “NAZI is not a valid word” according to the title which has players putting words like “Hod” or “Hi” and “Ta” in order to stack up points with words they really didn’t even know before playing the game.

On top of the title being a simple exercise in trial and error rather than actually testing the vocabulary of its players, now real words are not valid entries simply due to their controversial role in reality.

For this week’s WTF Wednesday stop and take a look at the country you live in, and name 3 games that have censored their content. In Germany, many students are not even taught about the existence of Adolf Hitler and the NAZI era of World War 2. Some say this is to prevent a low self-esteem issue while others claim it is to prevent repeating the past. In any event, most countries will not allow the Nazi Swastika symbol to appear in their video games despite the historical accuracy demanding such.

Switch is Nintendo’s Chance to Redeem the Mario Party Franchise

Nintendo Switch - Mario Party 11 - Mario Party 3 - RealGamerNewZ

We aren’t going to see a GameCube mini classic edition come out anytime soon, so let’s get Luigi’s Mansion, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader¬†and some more N64 content on Virtual Console. There are tons of games on GameCube. I feel like it’s really one of the biggest games in Nintendo history.

Thank you everyone who tuned into my Crash Bandicoot Livestream today, by the way. It’s always appreciated!

Nintendo Switch - Star Wars Rogue Squadron II Rogue Leader - GameCube VC Virtual Console 2017

Nintendo must understand that the Switch NEEDS¬†“A GOOD” Mario Party 11, “A SOLID” Smash Bros. entry, “A GOOD” Virtual Console. We also need some new tracks for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, perhaps some light DLC, perhaps for its Battle Mode. Star Fox 2 being included on the SNES Mini as well as the quality of the overall lineup in general give the gaming industry hope that Nintendo is getting even greater at what they do despite past criticisms.

Nintendo is just sitting on a gold mine with excellent mini-game concepts going unused from Mario Party 1, 2, 3, Game & Watch, Warioware, etc. and I fear the legacy of Mario Party as a franchise is in danger after the release of Mario Party 10 didn’t quite fit the bill. This opportunity is a huge chance for Nintendo to prove this trend of success with Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is in fact not a fluke and that they are back on track to giving gamers what they love most. Now is the chance to redeem Mario Party and show fans you know how to treat their beloved franchises.

Until next time this is Josh Ehresmann AKA YodaThe3rd your RealGamerNewZ Public Relations Editor signing off.

SEGA Conspiracy Theories That Make You Wonder…

Sega Conspiracy Theories That Make You Wonder - RealGamerNewZ

Video game publisher, console manufacturer, creator to the favorite systems of many fans (Genesis, Master System, Dreamcast, and more), SEGA is not without its interesting background. With routes tied to what many consider to be the potential case for subtle occult hints left within the software of their games and even the menu system of their machines, SEGA is pressed to some conspiracy theories which they didn’t have to answer for in years’ past due to the advent of high-speed internet (Broadband) in the home and eventually in the hand (iPhone, Galaxy). Now we wonder, and without the ability to ask the past from the future about the present, we are left in awe to only speculate as to what happened to cause the stories below.

Fun Is Infinite, SEGA Enterprises. Signed By Devil.

Sonic CD Users discovered that if you follow a particular input of the Sega CD game system, the following strange messages will occur! At title screen pressed Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, A. At next screen enter FM no.46, PCM no. 12, DA no. 25, press start. Newer Versions Use Just the #s 12 and 25. “Fun Is Infinite, Sega Enterprises. Signed by Devil”¬† The theory has been challenged by some who say that the “Devil” word in Japanese was actually a mistranslated and instead an extremely similar name is listed as a signature from a member of the game’s development team. These stories have yet to be solved to this day and still the debate remains.

Captured Alien Audio if Saturn games put in CD Player

Planet Saturn and word Satan are the same thing also? In addition to creepy infomercials and bizarre hidden messages in their game systems, if you’d try to put the Sega Dreamcast GDI gigabyte game discs into a music player, you’d get an odd tone of voice from a commanding female officer of the Sega elite. Have you heard this before? Does it give you De Ja Vu? Do you feel like you have? The sounds heard in the background¬†are argued between fans as being either the sounds coming from hell itself of mankind and beasts yelling out in agony or the recorded sounds of an extraterrestrial being held captive on Earth for humans to study. Be our guest and let us know what you draw as your own conclusions after hearing it below.

Top 10 Final Fantasy RPG Games Of All Time

Final Fantasy Top 10 RPG Games of All Time - RealGamerNewZ

Happy Easter! Welcome to another RealGamerNewZ Top 10 List. This one comes near and dear to our hearts as we prepare a special meal and gather around telling tales of young and the old adventures throughout gaming’s vast universe. Today we will revisit some of our favorite games of all time, the gem of the Square Enix portfolio, and one of the top selling franchises of all time – Final Fantasy.

  1. Final Fantasy VI – PS3+Vita / *Super Nintendo – A realm perfected, a world of ruin, an evil empire, and an adventure of exploration with resilience in the face of adversity. The long lost and forbidden technology of Magic is finally explained to humankind, and its shameful secret revealed. Originally titled “Final Fantasy III” in the United States version, FF6 is a masterpiece that shows the peak design of the classic retro 2D JRPG genre and defines Final Fantasy mechanics as a franchise.
  • Noteworthy Features: Living Espers turn to Summons and Magic Artifacts that any character can learn spells from, Open World with much variety in locations made available through a steady storytelling process that gives the illusion of free roam. Airships and Gambling on to-the-death Battles in Coliseum are also featured. Memorable characters with well fleshed out identities coming together to play various roles in an evolving plot around the battle for ultimate power in a world under threat of being lost to madness.

2. Final Fantasy VII РSteam / PS4 / PS3+Vita РOpen rebellion against a sinister rogue state engulfed in genetic engineering, a massive city floating above the sky and a vast overworld with hidden treasures abound. Memorable and universally acclaimed blockbuster of an experiment in disc-based classic retro 2D meets 3D JRPG genre FF7 is currently being remade into a modern day AAA experience, and the original is a must-play experience for turn-based RPG gaming fans.

  • Noteworthy Features: Materia Magic System, High Tech / Modern World Version of Final Fantasy is brought together by intriguing characters who each have their own weapons class of training and path of skills in addition to the Materia System. An entire subset of mini-games leads to a Gamers-style Casino suspended above a quicksand-filled jail.
  • There’s a massive overworld that slowly opens up to gamers across what was originally a 3 disc-campaign on the original Sony PlayStation and cinematic cut-scenes are introduced to the series while paired with exploratory scenes of 2D backgrounds and 3D models in addition to 3D battles taking place in ATB Turn-Based Combat.
  • This title told the tale that cemented Final Fantasy as a gamer’s go-to franchise for solid RPG gameplay systems and stories paired together, and the discovery of FF7 has also led many to retrace the series’ roots in search of gems from previous iterations.

3. Final Fantasy IV – *PlayStation Portable / *Super Nintendo¬†– A time before time, where swords and kingdoms were a noble folk, mages and wizards were of confusion and mystery, and the secrets of the mystic creatures within and around the world made them that much more intriguing. Visit the moon, and reveal the secrets of the inner-earth in FF4, originally titled “Final Fantasy II” in the United States version, an incredibly well polished JRPG that can also be looked to as a defining moment for the Final Fantasy franchise.

  • Features:¬†Guardians of the crystals, the redemption of a dark knight, towns and villages at the mercy of a kingdom and its overthrown ruler’s army, these are the backdrops for Final Fantasy IV. An incredible set of classic-inspired gameplay systems lead this story-based, combat-heavy turn based title by the original Squaresoft who also made FF7 and FF6.

4. Final Fantasy X – Vita / PS3 / PS4 – When we Sin, where does it go? What does it become? If it was all spiraling chaotically into a tsunami-breeding storm, would we stop and pay it attention then? Perhaps our Sin would simply wash over us again and again as we cling on, barely surviving, looking at the civilizations of ancient times left behind as wreckage for a foggy memory we attempt to remind ourselves of. Or is it all just a dream? Final Fantasy X brought the series to a higher graphical presentation while sacrificing some of its open world roots in exchange for a cinematic storytelling experience.

5. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII – *PlayStation Portable – Another life, another time, the layer behind the story of the man we all looked to

6. Final Fantasy IX – PS3+Vita / Steam

7. Dirge Of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII – *PlayStation 2

8. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest – *Super Nintendo

9. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call – Nintendo 3DS

10. Final Fantasy V – PS3 / *Super Nintendo

Honorable Mentions: Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, Final Fantasy Tactics.

*Super Nintendo, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable titles are provided under the Bill Clinton Act of 1995 in which gamers who own a copy of the original game in physical format are allowed a 24 hour copy of the digital version (emulated) in order to provide backup playing in the event of a hardware failure on the original cartridge. You must own this game to play it.
**Where there are modern day re-releases or remakes that are of an acceptable quality, RGN has provided the link to purchase this game that way instead – however, some remakes of FF games have been deteriorating to the franchise due to the employment of mobile support for iOS and Android touch controls.

Will FPS / War Sims be #1 choice in VR Gaming? + PlayStation VR Comparisons to Oculus Rift

Altspace VR RealGamerNewZ Microsoft VR Oculus PS4 VR

Hey gamer family, this question is to everyone: What do you think is an exciting idea for a video game that does not involve guns?

With the prevelance of Virtual Reality hitting us sooner than later, starting off with a 1st generation round of hardware including the PlayStation VR for PS4, we are about to see real-life “Murder Simulators” that anti-video game fanatics have been ranting about for decades. And while war / shooters have their place in entertainment, historical knowledge, tactical survival skill, etc. – will shooters and the so-called “Murder Sims” the industry has been condemned by time and time again really remain the #1 choice for gaming experiences once Virtual Reality begins to slowly take over?

I enjoy war games of all types but once in awhile I feel like shooter games are all the same.

This is why I don’t heavily invest in the Fighting and Racing genres as well. With Virtual Reality Gaming 1st Gen approaching, I’m hearing that shooting people nonstop and whipping your head around massive speeds isn’t going to be available right away and isn’t even recommended for obvious reasons.

The genre of shooters will need to be recreated from the ground up with some amount of realism added to the pace of gun fights at least, never mind the psychological implications of shooting on end in what seems more and more real each hardware cycle.

To see projects like DayZ, H1Z1: Just Survive, or RUST where shooting happens but isn’t a main objective or a nonstop, unrealistic event when it does happen. But let’s be honest these games are still quite buggy, unfinished, boring at times, and need to be replaced by more robust franchises that have been given the proper TLC a new genre birth deserves, not Early Access hell for years upon years of stagnation!

VR Shooter Guy Omni tech

Alternatively this also opens the door brilliantly for titles with new mechanics and genre concepts. Its very hard to predict and invent what that would be exactly but thankfully many developers worldwide are already working on the initial waves of design. I can at least say I’m glad that No Man’s Sky has been confirmed for PlayStation VR compatibility and it would be great to see a World of Warcraft type game some day on this hardware. I wouldn’t mind seeing something like Sea of Thieves reach VR as well.

Unfortunately, it has been practically confirmed that some games available now will get support patched in. Most likely Sony will keep an eye on quality control for these patches and make sure it only happens when it makes sense. It has been relatively proven in VR already that shooters coded for a TV, Monitor, Mouse and Keyboard, or GamePad Controller are not as good on a VR headset as they need to be to avoid motion sickness.

This was found out thanks to the research & development of great minds like John Carmack who led up Oculus prior to Facebook purchasing the company, and of course engineers at Valve who essentially used Oculus as a shell to do R&D with then ditched for their own standardized Steam VR platform now competing with Oculus Rift via the HTC Vive. A number of specs were gathered and future R&D was revealed by HTC and Valve advancing the release of this round of VR hardware to occur more quickly. While Oculus has attempted to adopt most of this new research and has accomplished much of this in the Consumer Rift, the two technologies still have differences and it remains unclear how the market will shift in terms of support for either headset.

PlayStation 4 PS4 Worlds VR

For this reason and the hefty cost of investing in PC parts to handle running such a device, many gamers are looking towards news, development, and eventually impressions of the best content PlayStation VR has to offer. PSVR will not run at the high level of specs that HTC Vive and Oculus Rift are now calling their minimum standard. But initial impressions are that the PSVR is still a satisfying experience. Sony will be showing off a lot over the next few months and has remained firm on a 2016 release date for the PlayStation VR headset at a price range of $399.99 (base unit) with a $499.99 bundle for people who don’t yet already own a PS4 Camera since it is required to use the PSVR headset. The $499 bundle also includes a game demo disc,¬†headphones, 2 PS Move controllers, and PlayStation Worlds¬†–¬†.

Some controversy surrounds the fact that the recently leaked PlayStation 4K specs (AKA PlayStation 4.5 or codename NEO) give mention to improved experience for the PSVR headset. This seems a little bit unjustified to me, since it’s obviously going to perform better doing EVERYTHING as a system with a higher speed, bus speed, bandwidth, and memory in its APU (CPU / GPU) as well as RAM – Of Course, PSVR will perform better too!

AMD PlayStation 4K Radeon PS4 NEO

However, both the standard PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4K are capable of allowing traditional players on DualShock 4 / Television while another player is using the PlayStation VR headset and PS Move Controllers (or DualShock 4) and interacting in an experience together while viewing the different screens. This is possible because the PSVR comes with an additional processing unit mounted to it. And although some may even find it unfortunate that PS Move controllers and a PS4 Camera are required for the ultimate experience, this is a very early but great time for VR technology.

Oculus and Vive both have their own similar controllers with additional technologies added to them and while Vive comes with them, it’s built into cost at $799. Currently the Oculus Rift doesn’t come with these but a future bundle will and is called Oculus Touch. For now, that bundle is not available and Oculus Rift is going for $599. These are early adopter prices and early adopter bundles, with the expectation that if you are buying PSVR you can afford a PS4 Camera. If you want the ultimate experience, you will eventually afford some PS Moves since you probably already sold yours at the end of the PlayStation 3 era like most of us did (D’oh! *Homer Simpson voice).
