WTF Wednesdays: “NAZI is not a valid word” – ??? – Words With Friends 2

Video game companies all over the world are subject to government regulations against free speech – some for good reason, others just for an unidentified purpose. While playing the mobile title Words With Friends 2 Online the other day it was discovered that “NAZI is not a valid word” according to the title which has players putting words like “Hod” or “Hi” and “Ta” in order to stack up points with words they really didn’t even know before playing the game.

On top of the title being a simple exercise in trial and error rather than actually testing the vocabulary of its players, now real words are not valid entries simply due to their controversial role in reality.

For this week’s WTF Wednesday stop and take a look at the country you live in, and name 3 games that have censored their content. In Germany, many students are not even taught about the existence of Adolf Hitler and the NAZI era of World War 2. Some say this is to prevent a low self-esteem issue while others claim it is to prevent repeating the past. In any event, most countries will not allow the Nazi Swastika symbol to appear in their video games despite the historical accuracy demanding such.

SEGA Conspiracy Theories That Make You Wonder…

Sega Conspiracy Theories That Make You Wonder - RealGamerNewZ

Video game publisher, console manufacturer, creator to the favorite systems of many fans (Genesis, Master System, Dreamcast, and more), SEGA is not without its interesting background. With routes tied to what many consider to be the potential case for subtle occult hints left within the software of their games and even the menu system of their machines, SEGA is pressed to some conspiracy theories which they didn’t have to answer for in years’ past due to the advent of high-speed internet (Broadband) in the home and eventually in the hand (iPhone, Galaxy). Now we wonder, and without the ability to ask the past from the future about the present, we are left in awe to only speculate as to what happened to cause the stories below.

Fun Is Infinite, SEGA Enterprises. Signed By Devil.

Sonic CD Users discovered that if you follow a particular input of the Sega CD game system, the following strange messages will occur! At title screen pressed Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, A. At next screen enter FM no.46, PCM no. 12, DA no. 25, press start. Newer Versions Use Just the #s 12 and 25. “Fun Is Infinite, Sega Enterprises. Signed by Devil”  The theory has been challenged by some who say that the “Devil” word in Japanese was actually a mistranslated and instead an extremely similar name is listed as a signature from a member of the game’s development team. These stories have yet to be solved to this day and still the debate remains.

Captured Alien Audio if Saturn games put in CD Player

Planet Saturn and word Satan are the same thing also? In addition to creepy infomercials and bizarre hidden messages in their game systems, if you’d try to put the Sega Dreamcast GDI gigabyte game discs into a music player, you’d get an odd tone of voice from a commanding female officer of the Sega elite. Have you heard this before? Does it give you De Ja Vu? Do you feel like you have? The sounds heard in the background are argued between fans as being either the sounds coming from hell itself of mankind and beasts yelling out in agony or the recorded sounds of an extraterrestrial being held captive on Earth for humans to study. Be our guest and let us know what you draw as your own conclusions after hearing it below.

WTF Wednesdays: inFamous Condoms

WTF Wedsnesday

Welcome to another edition of WTF Wednesdays, where we bring you gaming related content that makes you go wtf, be it what, who or why?As I’m sure you’ve already put together from the title and picture, this week’s topic revolves around developer Super Punch’s latest title and condoms.

What does inFamous: Second Son have to do with condoms you ask? Well in the context of the game, nothing, nothing at all. Regardless of the fact, it didn’t stop GameStop from offering special themed condoms as a pre-order bonus. Yeah you read that right.

Infamous condoms

If you are wondering how come you never heard (For those of you who haven’t) of this pre-order bonus, it is because this was exclusive to GameStop in Italy. I myself just learned of this ridiculousness today. But that’s not all…

Glow condoms

Yep, they glow in the dark

wtfjackie

Yes Mr. Chan, what the f*** were they thinking indeed. Who thought this was a good idea? I’m not saying gamers don’t get laid or anything like that but no, just no. Imagine the wrong kind of message the parents got, when purchasing the game for their young teens and such. How awkward it must have been to show up on release day to receive not only the game but a box of condoms as well. Also why the f*@# do they glow in the dark, what purpose does that serve? Are they in case of a potential blackout and you need to find your way to..*ahem*.

Seriously, what the f***?

WTF Wednesdays: California Man Sues Sony Over Killzone: Shadow Fall

KZWTF

Welcome to RealGamerNewz’ very first WTF Wednesdays; where we bring you things gaming related that make you go wtf, be it what, who or why?

For the first edition; via Polygon a man from Northern California is suing Sony over the company’s claims of the title’s 1080p resolution. Douglas Ladore’s suit alleges that marketed Killzone: Shadow Fall as a title that would run at native 1080p but “used a technological shortcut that was supposed to provide ‘subjectively similar’ results.”

Back in March Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry analyzed the game’s graphics and revealed that its multiplayer ran at 960 by 1080 resolution as opposed to 1920 by 1080 (1080p resolution).

Digital Foundry stated:

“Shadow Fall uses a horizontal interlace, with every other column of pixels generated using a temporal upscale – in effect, information from previously rendered frames is used to plug the gaps. The fact that few have actually noticed that any upscale at all is in place speaks to its quality, and we can almost certainly assume that this effect is not cheap from a computational perspective. However, at the same time it also confirms that a massive reduction in fill-rate isn’t a guaranteed dead cert for hitting 60fps.”

Shadow Fall’s developer Guerrilla Games responded on its official website, to shed some light on the matter:

“In both SP and MP, Killzone Shadow Fall outputs a full, unscaled 1080p image at up to 60fps. Native is often used to indicate images that are not scaled; it is native by that definition.

In multiplayer mode, however, we use a technique called ‘temporal reprojection’, which combines pixels and motion vectors from multiple lower-resolution frames to reconstruct a full 1080p image. If native means that every part of the pipeline is 1080p then this technique is not native.

Games often employ different resolutions in different parts of their rendering pipeline. Most games render particles and ambient occlusion at a lower resolution, while some games even do all lighting at a lower resolution. This is generally still called native 1080p. The technique used in Killzone Shadow Fall goes further and reconstructs half of the pixels from past frames.

We recognise the community’s degree of investment on this matter, and that the conventional terminology used before may be too vague to effectively convey what’s going on under the hood. As such we will do our best to be more precise with our language in the future.”

This explanation was not satisfactory for Mr. Ladore as he is suing Sony Computer Entertainment for more than 5 million dollars (WTF?) for false advertisement, negligent misrepresentation,  unfair competition and fraud in the inducement.

WTF-Picard-meme

Yes you read that. This man paid $60+ for this game, or less if he used a coupon, got it around Black Friday or paid nothing (It could have been a gift) and he wants over $5,000,000? Yes Captain Picard, what the F**%, indeed.
