WTF Wednesdays: “NAZI is not a valid word” – ??? – Words With Friends 2

Video game companies all over the world are subject to government regulations against free speech – some for good reason, others just for an unidentified purpose. While playing the mobile title Words With Friends 2 Online the other day it was discovered that “NAZI is not a valid word” according to the title which has players putting words like “Hod” or “Hi” and “Ta” in order to stack up points with words they really didn’t even know before playing the game.

On top of the title being a simple exercise in trial and error rather than actually testing the vocabulary of its players, now real words are not valid entries simply due to their controversial role in reality.

For this week’s WTF Wednesday stop and take a look at the country you live in, and name 3 games that have censored their content. In Germany, many students are not even taught about the existence of Adolf Hitler and the NAZI era of World War 2. Some say this is to prevent a low self-esteem issue while others claim it is to prevent repeating the past. In any event, most countries will not allow the Nazi Swastika symbol to appear in their video games despite the historical accuracy demanding such.

Here’s the Full List of Playable PlayStation Games at Gamescom; Journey Coming to PS4

A list of games that will be played on at this year’s Gamescom event showed up on Sony’s Official page on the site. It was quickly taken down but thanks to the quick efforts of NeoGaf ‘reminder’, it has been posted for all to see. The list includes many games that have been announced but also a few surprises including Until Dawn and the PS3 classic Journey. Many figured after the critically acclaimed Flower made its way unto PS4 last year, that Journey would do the same and it turns out they were right.

One big noticeable omission from this impressive list are playable PS3 games, though it makes since that Sony would want to focus on the Vita and its next-gen console.

Once again big thanks to RGN writer Jesus for the find.

Are Grand Theft Auto V PC Rumors True?

A PC listing of GTA 5 has appeared on the French and German amazon websites. The France version has been removed, but the German one is still up. You can view it here; Notice that their is no release date for it. Previous rumors has stated that GTA 5 PC would be announced before March 31, which would make sense because the PC version of GTA 4 was released eight months after the console release. There is definitely a high probability of GTA 5 coming to PC, it’s only a matter of time!

Chinese Delegation to Have First Presence at Gamescom 2012

Chinese Delegation will have First Presence at Gamescom 2012, notably the largest yearly gaming expo in Europe. This press release gives full mention of Chinese Government encouraging game design and export to other countries, despite China’s closed-in nature. Should a full-scale operation commence from the Multi-Billion Dollar Chinese Gaming Industry, a lot of alien content could be reaching gamers’ hands soon worldwide.

Given how addictive Chinese games can be, mixed with political tension, it will be interesting to see the US market response, should these deals extend West.

Check out the Full Press Release directly from Beijing: “BEIJING–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dozens of China’s leading game enterprises will for the first time unite as the Chinese delegation to join in Gamescom in Germany, the most influential game exhibition in Europe.

The Chinese game enterprises delegation, the first of its kind heading for Europe, was initiated and approved by the Administration of Press and Publication of China, and organized by the Foreign Trade Development Bureau of China’s Ministry of Commerce and Howell International Trade Fair Ltd.

China’s game market boasting a sales revenue of $7 billion in 2011 has not only kept an amazing annual growth of more than 30%, but also raised a group of capable local game enterprises. Leveraging their domestic profits, these enterprises have enhanced their research, development and design strengths so as to compete with the international counterparts.

Many Chinese game enterprises are no more satisfied with their domestic gains and are eyeing overseas expansion, which is well noted by the Chinese government that has been encouraging game innovation and export for years. It is known that the Administration of Press and Publication of China and Foreign Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce will provide subsidies for eligible members of the Chinese delegation.

The co-organizer Howell International Trade Fair is also a major organizer of ChinaJoy, one of the leading game expo, which could be regarded as a strong endorsement for the professionalism of the Chinese delegation.”
