The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Gets Two New Trailers & Causes Controversy

The Witcher 3 - Confidential Gameplay Screenshot

NVIDIA, Microsoft, and the Television Networks all want a piece of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s sweet hype train. As its marketing campaign ramps up into high gear the game managed to cause a bit of controversy as well (through no fault of its own) as Microsoft decided to take a common but misleading business practice of placing the PC Version of the The Witcher 3’s gameplay on their Xbox YouTube Channel. These days gamers are getting too smart for little tricks like that though, and since the PC Version obviously performs at higher graphical settings than that of the consoles, it was later taken down with an apology issued by Microsoft.

Two new trailers were also released including the NVIDIA Behind-The-Scenes Look at the game continuing the title’s dev diary series and focusing on the Lead Artist, Senior Character Artist, Technical Artist, Lead Engine Programmer, Gameplay Programmer, and more as they discuss the game’s preference for NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards on the Windows PC platform. The Witcher 3 lands in gamers’ hands on May 19, 2015.

Cinema meets Video Games as Charles Dance (from Game of Thrones) speaks about his performance in the upcoming fantasy, role playing, action / adventure game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and how games have evolved over time to draw in more and more mature audiences.

No longer are there limitations to what the visual aspects of a game can produce. In many respects, the act of feeling as if you are within the experience, or “present”, paired with the fact that video game graphics now rival and often surpass CG found in films means that a AAA game production can have superior storytelling to a big-budget blockbuster.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt runs on REDengine 3 with Umbra 3 PhysX and SpeedTree tools implemented and will become available on PlayStation 4, Xbox ONE, and Windows PC (through GOG and Steam) on May 19, 2015 and promises to be quite an epic experience. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will Receive Two Paid Expansions

CD Projekt Red have announced today, that their upcoming title will receive two massive paid expansions. The studio released a statement via Press Release:

With the development of Wild Hunt coming to an end, the team has embarked upon the creation of two new really big adventures set in The Witcher universe,” says Marcin Iwiński, CD PROJEKT RED co-founder. “We remember the time when add-on disks truly expanded games by delivering meaningful content. As gamers, we’d like to bring that back. We’ve said in the past that if we ever decide to release paid content, it will be vast in size and represent real value for the money. Both our expansions offer more hours of gameplay than quite a few standalone games out there.”

The first expansion titled Hearts of Stone, will feature Geralt attempting to complete a contract for the mysterious Man of Glass. This new adventure will take players to No Man’s Land and Oxenfurt and will last about 10 hours.

Witcher 3’s second expansion, Blood and Wine will last 20 hours and introduce a brand new region in the game. Geralt will visit Toussaint, a land unspoiled by war but one that is also hiding an ancient secret behind its carefree atmosphere.

For those of you who are worried about the announcement of DLC before the game’s release, Iwiński had this to say:

While we’re offering the Expansion Pass now,we want to make one thing clear: don’t buy it if you have any doubts. Wait for reviews or play The Witcher and see if you like it first. As always, it’s your call.

Players can expect new gear, enemies and more in the upcoming expansions. CD promises they will be “crafted with maximum attention to detail and quality by the joint forces of CD PROJEKT RED’s Warsaw and Cracow studios.”

The first expansion will debut this October, while Blood and Wine will release in the first quarter of 2016.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release on May 19, 2015 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Both expansions will be available on each of those platforms.

Stay your Blade, The Witcher 3 has Been Delayed…Again

Despite assuring fans their game would not see another delay, CD Projekt Red has announced today that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been delayed for another 3 months.

May 19, 2015 is now the new date to mark on your calendars. According to a prepared statement from the Polish developer, “The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected.”

You can read the full open letter to the fans below.

Dear Gamers, May 19th, 2015.

Ever since we started working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we knew it would be an ambitious game. We wanted, and still aim, to give you an incredible experience, an epic adventure in a vast, completely open fantasy universe.

The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.

With this in mind, we took another look at current workloads and what they mean for the team. Even though everyone is working at full speed, we concluded that we need another 12 weeks, so we are shifting the release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to

We owe you an apology. We set the release date too hastily. It’s a hard lesson, one to take to heart for the future. We know what we want to do to make Wild Hunt one of the best RPGs you will ever play. And we continue to work hard to achieve just that. So, we apologize and ask for your trust.

Thank you for the all support you show us on a daily basis. We truly do appreciate it. It has fueled us in our passion since the start and will continue to do so.

This marks the second delay for the title, since the first announcement seven months ago. You can always play the board game to until then.

The Witcher 3 All DLC Expected to be FREE!!

Marcin Iwiński, co-founder and Joint CEO of CD PROJEKT RED had this to say about The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt and its planned downloadable content.

“We love games. We love collecting them, playing them, and everything connected to that experience. Every time we reach out for a new release, we expect to be taken care of. We expect support if we encounter any problems, we love updates constantly improving the experience, and we feel really special when we receive free content that gives us more than we initially paid for. It doesn’t have to be huge, it can be an awesome skin for a character, or an extra sword, or armor.”

“Unfortunately this treatment is quite rare these days. As gamers, we nowadays have to hold on tight to our wallets, as surprisingly right after release, lots of tiny pieces of tempting content materialize with a steep price tag attached. Haven’t we just paid a lot of cash for a brand new game? As CD PROJEKT RED, we strongly believe this is not the way it should work and, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we have decided to do it differently. Cutting to the chase, everyone who buys Wild Hunt will receive 16 specially prepared DLCs absolutely for free, regardless of platform.”

He continues on to say:

“You don’t have to pre-order, you don’t have to buy any special edition to get them — if you own a copy of Wild Hunt, they’re yours. This is our way of saying thank you for buying our game.” The free DLC for the Witcher 3 will work like this. If you own the game Digitally or physically, the DLC is free. As long as you own the game you can download the DLC at no charge. There are 16 DLC coming and on Febuary 25th the first 2 DLC will drop and will feature the Temerian Armor Set and a Beard and Hairstyle Set for Geralt (the main character.)

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt will be available for Xbox ONE, PS4, and PC on Feb 24, 2015.
