A movie based on the popular video game series, is in the works. Variety broke the news this morning, confirming Avi and Ari Arad as the film’s producers.
“Part of our strategy in entering the game space under Peter Levin has been to source new brands with built-in audiences that will translate into great films and television shows,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger. “The ‘Borderlands’ games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise.”
No details on who will direct or a release window have been revealed at this time. Take-Two’s Interactive Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick had this to say in regards to this announcement.
“Lionsgate has emerged as a major creative force in the global marketplace with an incredible portfolio of brands; our partners at Gearbox have pioneered and cultivated an iconic property; and Avi and Ari Arad are two of the most successful producers of action franchises. This alliance is ideally positioned to create a bold, provocative, no-holds-barred motion picture phenomenon that will delight ‘Borderlands” current legions of fans and captivate moviegoers around the world.”
The first Borderlands game launched in 2009 to critical acclaim. Its sequel Borderlands 2, in 2012 received similar praise. Personally both games couldn’t hold my interest for long (Playing solo), though they were quite funny. Hopefully the movie can deliver on the laughs.

Those in attendance at the 2015 Quakecon event, were able to get some hands-on time with Bombshell, 3D Realms’ upcoming isometric action role-playing game. For the rest of us who weren’t there, we will just have to settle for the brand new gameplay video that dropped today.
While some of the voice acting is less than impressive so far, the combat looks like brutal fun as Shelly blasts her way through the alien opposition. I for one, can’t wait to see more.
Bombshell is set to release sometime this year for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata has passed away at the age of 55. The company confirmed his untimely departure today in a brief statement.
“Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.”
Iwata missed last year’s E3 event due to medical concerns. He later had to undergo surgery to get rid of the growth located in his bile duct.
Satoru Iwata joined Nintendo in 1983 as a programmer, working at the HAL laboratory. Some of the games he helped create while working there, were EarthBound and the Kirby titles. He was promoted to President of HAL in 1993 and eventually went on to becoming Nintendo’s fourth President in 2002. The launches of the GameCube, Nintendo DS, 3DS, Wii and Wii U were overseen by Iwata.
Another of Iwata’s roles was as the host of “Iwata Asks”, a series of game developer Q&As that offered fans a deeper look into a company that was known for its secrecy. In 2013 he became CEO of Nintendo of America. One of the first things he did, was announced that Nintendo would no longer hold large press conferences at E3. Instead Iwata would speak directly to millions of gamers via the Nintendo Direct video series, providing fans of all generations with all the latest Nintendo announcements.
Crystal Dynamics has dropped a brand new gameplay video for their Tomb Raider sequel. The video picks up where the E3 gameplay left off and we find Lara trekking through the snowy wilderness of Siberia.
Lara has new ways of dispatching bad guys, from stealthy bow kills involving poison arrows, to the ever popular “death from above” stealth kill. The crafting system introduced in the 2013 reboot makes a return as we see Lara craft herself the aforementioned poison arrows. Ms Croft doesn’t just have to contend with humans in the wild but highly dangerous animals as well, including a very big, very pissed off Bear.
How will Lara overcome this ferocious beasts? You’ll have to watch to find out.
