In speaking with Polygon during a recent interview, Crytek USA’s former CEO David Adams revealed that a return to the Darksiders franchise is being explored.
Adams and six other members of Crytek USA’s core development team — who had previously worked on past Darksiders titles while at Vigil Games — left and formed a new independent studio, Gunfire Games. This was around the same time numerous reports began to surface about Crytek financial woes, loss of staff and other issues.
“Forming another independent studio was something that I thought about because of what was going on, Adams told Polygon. “It got to the point where people were starting to leave.”
Death in Darksiders 2 (2012)
Gunfire Games is looking towards it’s next big project while it works on establishing its new studio. A new Darksiders title is one of those possibilities and they have already spoken to Nordic Games, the studio that bought the rights to the series during the bankruptcy auction for THQ back in 2013.
“That is one of the options we are exploring,” he explained. “But we don’t want to jump into something immediately. We want to weigh our options.”
I for one would love to see Darksiders 3 hit the new consoles and PC one day; the story of the Horseman of the apocalypse and the destruction of mankind was an interesting one. Not to mention the games were fun to play as well. Hell a remastered collection of the first two games would be ideal for bringing in new fans and garnering even more interest in a third.
