Nuclear Throne will appear exclusively on the PlayStation 4 in terms of the next-gen version, however it will also be available on the Xbox One later down the line. The reason for this delay in platform release is because of Microsoft’s parity clause and the loophole out of it which Vlambeer opted for. For those who haven’t heard yet, Microsoft currently (at the time of this post’s writing) enacts a clause on all game makers to put their game out on Xbox One and PS4 at the same exact time or forfeit the right to release on Xbox One at all. To avoid conflict during a transition into next-gen though, Microsoft allows that clause to be ignored if a PS4 contract was already signed before the title was submitted for publishing on the Xbox One platform.
For many development studios, particularly small and efficient indie teams, it is simply not possible to be that precise with releasing multiple platforms at once and so Vlambeer has opted to go this route with the title that is based in the 8 bit art style and uses sci-fi as well as modern and traditional role playing / action gameplay elements. Check out the PlayStation trailer for the title below which will also become available for PS3, Windows PC, Mac OS X, and PlayStation Vita.
