A PS4 firmware patch will release some time this year to address the battery life issue with the DualShock 4 by allowing for a “battery-saver mode” and/or the ability to turn on and off additional functions of the controller.
The lightbar one of the causes for the short battery life for the DS4.
Currently players can only turn the volume down to zero on the DualShock 4’s audio output, which doesn’t do much to increase the battery life but may have been an early attempt to fix the issue. The DualShock 4 exhibits approximately 4-5 hours of battery life while straight gaming.
