Huntsman: The Orphanage Preview

Huntsman The Orphanage

Huntsman: The Orphanage is a mix between survival horror and adventure brought to you by ShadowShifters. The game is also a successfully green-lit project on Steam for Windows PC and Mac OS X with users allowed to pre-purchase it and get early access to play before the final build is completed. Huntsman has a lot of dialogue and story behind all the characters in the game. The premise of the game is to find all of the orphans that are in the game. They will present freaky messages to your smartphone and you have to find them and the items that they’ve lost in the orphanage. Once you have found these items you will have to find each of their headstones which are hidden in a maze and then you can set the items onto their headstone and their ghostly souls will be set free.

The gameplay is really impactful from the very start. Your character will enter the game and it’s dark outside, and let me preface by saying that this game is scary dark. There is nowhere in the settings to turn the brightness up so the user will be playing this game in a classic style where the darkness will have lots of surprises ahead.

Now what kind of game would be survival horror without a light or torch? Well, Huntsman: The Orphanage gives you a light and it’s a cell phone light which acts like any normal cell phone light; it’s not very bright and only allows the user a limited light in that specific area. The sound in this game is awesome, lots of very creaky woods and just an all around scary environment to play in. I recommend playing this game with full surround sound or with a headset and play it in the dark if you want the full experience.

The controls in Huntsman: The Orphanage are very basic as in most PC games; W, A, S, D to move around, F is for the light, E to interact, C to crouch, Z to prone, and shift to sprint. The game is keeping things basic and that is really applauded to those of us who enjoy a game bringing back some old things to spice up the horror genre. The game can be purchased on Steam and this is Early Access so the user can play part of the game and save their progress in order to have their save file travel across to the full version when it comes out.
