Freefall Racers is a Kinect racing game which basically consists of Kinect-enabled free falling with a parachute, but these are flying squirrels so you get that nature feel too I suppose.
Soundtrack, Audio, Voice: The game’s soundtrack is intended for younger audiences but kind of comes off a little bit too childish for older players to enjoy while playing, which is a shame. For what little voice acting that is a part of the game, it’s something like you would see on Nick or Cartoon Network, not like that is a bad thing at all just that this is the best way to describe it. Sometimes, even when you mix settings, the audio will just fail out into silence for a solid 3 seconds.
Graphics, Physics, Glitches, Engine Performance: Honestly the graphics are the best part of this game in some aspects. The art style the developers went with makes for some really good looking lighting and scenery. The physics of Freefall Racers are okay, but sometimes when you’re flying it will not go along with the movements the player is trying to give the Kinect. It also glitches out sometimes. The player could be flying and the on-screen character will just teleport backwards change into another character model. Overall it has good graphics but is just messy. Not every session turns out to have these problems, but it’s pretty bad; I would every one out of three.
Kinect / Gameplay: The whole point of Freefall Racers is to move your arms along a certain path of flowing movement to either hit objectives, dodge objects, and to simply race. Though this title does a bad job of using Kinect to it’s fullest, it can be a very fun experience at times. Unfortunately the glitches just mess up the gameplay so much that gameplay often quickly gets to the point where you do not even want to play it anymore. The variety of characters offered are about nine, but the only difference is how they act. They all act like little kids, which is funny.
Some of the tracks in the game are badly made and are almost always either too short, or too long. If neither of those apply, they simply are not fun. As I said before, it is not bad all the time but it is a pretty miserable gameplay experience most of the time. Even though the interesting thing was that there were very subtle and smooth body movements at the start of the game, Freefall Racers just got clunkier and clunkier as it went on. There are also some power ups such as a wind gust, but they honestly don’t help the fun factor at all.
Replay Ability: Moderately Low
Final Verdict: Freefall Racers is a title that is enjoyable mainly for younger audiences. It could be something that the family plays as well, mainly the casual gamer. But if you’re a hardcore, or just experienced gamer you will not like this title at all, unless you’re an obsessed motion gamer. Freefall Racers get’s a 3.5 out of 10 for having way too many glitches and issues even a considerable time after release.
