Dead Island: Riptide Commercial Banned in Australia

Once again Dead Island is in a bit of trouble for swinging necks from trees. View this excerpt from VG247:

“The Australian Advertising Standards Board has recently banned the Dead Island: Riptide commercial for using ”images which are strongly suggestive of suicide”. The publishers of the game try to fight the ban saying the commercial is used to show the terror and hopelessness of the characters.

The publisher states that “is contextually relevant to the product being advertised, as it conveys the hopelessness of the games’ characters as they are faced with the overwhelming horror and violence of vast numbers of zombies hunting them, without actually depicting the violence of zombie vs character interaction in the game.”

You can decide if you think the commercial should be banned or not. I personally think that it shouldn’t be banned and that this whole dilemma is honesty, hilarious.

Editor’s Note: Australia has a very large anti-suicide social awareness movement and the main issue that the Australian Advertising Standards Board would likely have with the commercial is in fact not the zombies themselves but the logo depicting a person hanging from a tree allegedly implicating suicide.
