With everything going into a very action-packed revival of The Game Awards, this was one category which as part of several was crucially important for Geoff Keighley and peers of the game industry (over 51 media outlets and influencers voted as well as 50% weighted fan voting on many categories, with some completely chosen by fans) to get it right. This time around it seems that The Game Awards wasn’t going to hold any punches and simply let the games rise above anything that could’ve possibly held them back.
There was even a jab made at EA by the award’s presenter, who claimed he needed to pay a micro-transaction on his mobile device before he was able to see the winner in his envelope. This was followed up by a statement claiming that micro-transactions are “really stupid” echoing the beliefs of gamers worldwide.
Since the release of the game most fans have taken to a liking the reboot of the Wolfenstein franchise started a short while back. With Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus timing was great for a single-player focused shooter to enter the realm and succeed.
