Tristans Twisted World: Mass Effect Review

The original Mass Effect RPG which was an Xbox 360 exclusive at one point but now is multiplatform. It is called one of the greatest Sci-Fi series of all time but how was the first game? Some people still have not had a chance to play this but I will go into depth and discuss this game at its core.

Choices Paragon/Renegade: Mass Effect is a game based on choices and there are a lot of them but if they are worth it or will have any affect in future titles was a question. Not every choice is life or death or good and evil. But in this game its all about tracking down a rogue agent called Saren. Now the question is how far are you willing to go to stop him. Its high on morals sometimes you have to be evil to stop evil or not become corrupt and always try to help people. The Paragon and Renegade factors are what this games RPG choice elements are decided on. Basically you can either be good, bad , or neutral. It affects your characters standing in the galaxy in this game and beyond and humanity gets judged on how Shepard behaves.

Gameplay: The gameplay if you would play it today would feel outdated. The AI run everywhere unless your fighting the Geth which is the main enemy class. It accutaly makes it harder at some points. Depending on your level and what diffutcly your also affects the gameplay if your level 60 which is max cap and import your character to play Insanity it isn’t as hard since you have already gained so much experience for you character in past playthroughs.

Graphics: When this game came out the engine was cutting edge but now its just a really good looking retro game. The visuals are very good but if there’s a light it can go through players heads or overtake the screen and some points. The character models look very good expect for when the try to capture emotion in eyes on human characters I don’t know if its a glitch or just the fact this is an older game. Is a very good looking game for its time and is very playable today if graphics are a must for you as a player.

Classes: There are six classes to choose from either Solider, Adept, Sentinel, Vanguard, Infiltrator, and Engineer. Each class has special powers different leveling perks either if its your character or your squad mate. Each class also has certain training for example if your a Vanguard you only have training  in shotguns and handguns unless you acquire a training for assault rifles but Soldiers already have every weapon trained for. Powers range from weapons powers, biotic powers, tech powers, and mixed powers as some classes are combined classes like Vanguard is a Soldier and Adept spilt into it but certain things are changed. The classes are very even each helps in different aspects not one class is to powerfull.

Character Creation: Its similar to a lot of RPGs that let you do this but the creation is good. Pretty good customize of character faces and how you can pick your background and class.

Conversation Wheel: It uses some good features of RPG weather your asking questions or talking or making comments.

Characters: People like Liara, Garrus, Wrex, Tali, Kaidan, and Ashely are the main supporting cast. They each have there own backstorys and you can be friends or just be there commander or more than friends with certain characters. They are all different characters but are worth talking to.

Story:  In the year 2148, explorers on Mars discovered the remains of an ancient spacefaring civilization. In the decades that followed, these mysterious artifacts revealed startling new technologies, enabling travel to the furthest stars. The basis for this incredible technology was a force that controlled the very fabric of space and time.

They called it the greatest discovery in human history.

The civilizations of the galaxy call it… MASS EFFECT. That’s how the game starts out and hits narrative heavy off the back as you can choose side quest. You can do mainly main story quest  it will be around about 10 hours but if you do everything about 20 to 30 hours. The Reaper plot will have heavy carrying into future games. The DLCs add a good a story and also a great combat arena.

The game is extremely good a original a juggernaut RPG and is about a 10 out 10.
