The GTA V PC Windows User Account Issue – And Fixes

April 16, 2015 admin

GTA V PC Windows User Account Issue Fix

Editor’s Note: Don’t be derpy and rage on a poorly written Steam Review, give developers a chance to fix something by going through the necessary troubleshooting steps and contacting their support channels if that doesn’t work. People are flooding Steam Reviews with less-than-useful content based on known issues with known fixes a lot lately and causing the service to become increasingly useless or at the very least tedious to navigate. There are no refunds guaranteed for digital products at this time, despite laws existing for physical products which require it – these do not apply to digital products. So any refunds users manage to get are at their own risk of accounts being punished and are at the grace of the companies involved. This is why you don’t always need to buy things at day one ladies and gentlemen.

So you can’t get GTA V PC to work, but everyone you run into just says “works for me” and goes on about their merry day. Isn’t that always the case. Unless somebody is going through a problem themselves they typically are going to be less than helpful when it’s just you having the issue. Well, I’m here to talk a little bit about the GTA V PC Windows User Account Issue and thanks to Rockstar Games we even have some suggested fixes you can attempt while waiting for them to patch the game.

If you receive a message saying “The Rockstar update service is unavailable (code 1)” or the game simply hangs unable to download the day one patch then chances are you are experiencing this issue. The game currently does not support anything besides letters or numbers being in the Windows User Account Name! That’s right. Z0ra><x;;” is not a good enough account name for your Windows log-in as per GTA V PC requirements. So you’re going to need to create a new Windows User Account and it has to have Administrator privilege while only using letters and numbers.

This may pose an issue for those using pre-fab Desktop PCs, or Laptops with retailer software packages installed since these configurations typically lock you out of the Administrator accounts by default. I suggest whoever is in the market for a PC and might be reading this just builds their own computer and install Windows themselves, but if you’re already stuck in this situation and can’t afford to go buy Windows right now then just try to follow one of the following guides:

  • Windows 8/8.1: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-user-account#create-user-account=windows-8
  • Windows 7: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-user-account#create-user-account=windows-7
  • Windows Vista: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-user-account#create-user-account=windows-vista

If you’ve done this and the game still isn’t working for whatever reason, Contact Rockstar Support.
