Robbotto (Nintendo Switch) Review

Robbotto is a retro arcade-style platformer with a pixel aesthetic that harkens back to the days of spending all my quarters at the arcade without the sadness of the empty pockets an hour later. It is a passion project by Mårten Jonsson, a solo game developer who was inspired by the NES gem called Bubble Bobble.

Graveyard Keeper Real Gamer Review

Earlier this year I had the fortunate opportunity to be a member of the Alpha and Beta testing period for Graveyard Keeper, the newest game from the iconic duo of Lazy Bear Games of Punch Club fame and tinyBuild Games who have published some of the best indie titles this year such as Garage: Bad Trip, Hello Neighbor, Outpost Zero, Guts & Glory, and of course this title.

Graveyard Keeper is a management sim in the vain of Stardew Valley or Punch Club. However, it takes the best qualities of games in its genre and mixes them together into an experience that cannot be missed. This review covers both the Steam and XBOX One versions as I was lucky enough to be provided a Steam press code as well as being a member of XBOX’s Game Pass service where the game is being hosted for subscription holders by Microsoft.

Before I even get into the review itself, I have to sing my praises as well as warn you, once you pick it up it’s damn hard to put back down, myself sinking 30 hours into the console version alone. Not even counting the Steam copy and my time spent addicted to the Alpha and Beta test builds!

Sudden Strike 4: European Battlefields Edition Xbox Review

Sudden Strike 4: European Battlefields Edition is the definitive version of the fourth title in the long running real time strategy series featuring not only the base game with its three campaigns as well as four more through the included Road to Dunkirk and Finland: Winter Storm add-ons plus a version exclusive three levels. While Sudden Strike 4 is available on other platforms, the European Battlefields Edition is exclusive to the XBOX One.

Titan Quest (Nintendo Switch) Real Gamer Review

Titan Quest is a remaster of the 2006 PC title from the heydays of THQ, brought back from the dead by THQ Nordic (formerly Nordic Games). Like its re-releases in 2016 for PC, and earlier this year for PS4 and XBOX One, Titan Quest is a remastered version of the 2006 PC game of the same name (a personal favourite of mine growing up). This version of the game has been altered with updated visuals, newer console-friendly controls among many other “housekeeping” alterations.

Guts and Glory (Nintendo Switch) Real Gamer Review

Guts and Glory is a port of the popular PC title by HakJak and tinybuild Games. While the PC version is well-known for its vast amount of community-driven levels and being a generally good game to laugh at, this version is funny in all the wrong ways. This review serves to review the game’s base concept and the quality of the port itself, which is sadly quite poor unlike other recent tinyBuild games which have been excellent such as GARAGE: Bad Trip, Graveyard Keeper, and Outpost Zero.

Nidhogg 2 (Xbox One) Review

The XBOX One version will feature the addition of two all-new XBOX exclusive levels: Messhoff Corporate HQ and the Elevated Train.

Graveyard Keeper Alpha v0.678 Hands-On Impressions

Graveyard Keeper is the in-progress graveyard management sim by Lazy Bear, the genius team behind the hit boxing club management simulator Punch Club. After spending the last few weeks checking out the alpha build, I’ve since fallen in love with the game and here’s some reasons why.

Nippon Ichi Spotlight: Happy Birthdays has come to the Switch

Nippon Ichi Software, the developer/publisher behind many hit titles such as the long running strategy series Disgaea, the visual novel-adventure series Danganronpa and some of the newer entries in long-running bullet hell shoot-em-up series Touhou Project have Switched their focus to the ever-popular Nintendo handheld (couldn’t resist the joke).

Totally Accurate Battlegrounds Hands-On Impressions

From Landfall Games, the team behind physics platformer Clustertruck, local multiplayer fighter / party game Square Brawl, and their currently in development combat simulation title Totally Accurate Battle Simulator comes their extremely comical take on the ever saturated battle royale genre, Totally Accurate Battlegrounds. This is a title the team at Landfall developed as a late April Fool’s joke to help bridge the gap during the development of Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and allow them some time to take a break from active development on TABS.

IndieSpotlight: Graveyard Keeper Alpha (Farming Meets Necromancy)

Graveyard Keeper is the newest upcoming game developed by Lazy Bear Games, the development team behind the hit 2016 indie boxing management sim Punch Club and is being published by tinyBuild Games, known for a variety of titles spanning multiple genres and platforms such as stealth horror Hello Neighbor, action adventure Mr. Shifty, physics platformer Clustertruck and survival adventure The Final Station just to mention a few of my favorites. Similar to Punch Club, Graveyard Keeper is also a management sim but switches the gloves you wear from boxing gloves to the gloves of a grave keeper’s while maintaining the undeniable charm we saw in Punch Club.

State of Decay 2 Review

State of Decay 2 is the sequel to the 2013 survival horror game State of Decay which was generally well received by critics, and was a game I thoroughly enjoyed as well. Going into this game I was expecting more of the same zombie-killing and strategic gameplay from its predecessor. Well, this game delivers that, but really not much else. That isn’t totally a bad thing though because it still does those things right. A lot of heart and soul has been poured into State of Decay 2 by development house Undead Labs, and it shows.
