Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Campaign Review

Since the creation of this modern day FPS, Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare back in 2007 the series has enjoyed staggering record sales numbers along with a huge fan base and unlimited resources. The overall idea was the perfect formula that grabbed hold of most gamers’ attention and has not let go since. This series has been and continues to be the FPS that gamers refuse to stop playing, the question is why?

After completing the campaign mode with the difficulty set on hardened in less than five hours, I have to say that I’m not disappointed because it’s exactly what I expected. Though the storyline has changed picking up only moments after MW2’s story ended, leaving a more than blurry explanation of what happened, the overall experience has not changed in the least.

Once again the player assumes various roles of characters and their perspectives throughout the storyline. This is beyond getting old. I’ve been there and done that, how about something new or even something older at this point – just to change it up. In my opinion, flying up to the aircraft to use the support weapons could be done better than that. it has been since the beginning. Though it is a very cool feature just getting there or the way it’s done could be better thought out.

So what’s different? Well, aside from the fact that the campaign is set over the course of a few different days – abso-friggin-lutley nothing! Each mission features the same exact series of objectives that include tasks with different requirements such as, eliminating a certain enemy, defending objectives for a timed event, planting explosives at a certain installation, and are checkpoint driven.

I did notice the lighting has improved but when using the same textures over and over again it really doesn’t have the desired effect that it should have had. I know it’s been two years and I am getting older but seriously I can remember those buildings, landscapes, and holes in the ground. Infinity Ward should have spent some time on the environment at the least if they were not going to change anything else. However, even with the dated engine, as long as the box still says sixty frames per second most fans and media will have the illusion of perfect graphics.

The sound quality has seen improvement in some areas but the music really needs to be updated to something other then orchestra. I mean really, not one person playing this game listens to that crap so why on earth do we have to hear it the whole time we are playing, kick it up a notch!

I found the gameplay to be less intense than MW2 and even Black Ops in the campaign mode. The whole getting knocked on the ground and being incapacitated was previously overdone in the other titles, happens too often in MW3, and is way over-exaggerated as well. I can honestly say that I enjoy the cut-scenes though. Black Ops had some great ones and MW3 did too. Unfortunately for me, this was the highlight of the gameplay and there wasn’t much of it.

I’m tired of collecting Intel! I played through this title collecting only two of them and it was by accident. This task needs to be reworked to get people more interested in exploring the environment but then they would actually have to build a new one first. That would push back the release of MW3.5 forever because then they cannot simply use the permanent template that is cast in titanium and buried in an underground base somewhere just waiting for the next installment release.

Hit detection is once again an epic fail. Either you take a guy out without even hitting him or you shoot him square in the face and the bullets pass right through him. Elbows and kneecaps are not deadly life threatening wounds. Kill-shot cam replays are the easiest way to spot exactly how ridiculous this is. I am surprised that they haven’t tried to doctor those replay videos to make it look better than it is. But if you really want to see how bad it is record the gameplay as I did for the entire campaign and take a closer look it truly is atrocious.

The only replay value from the campaign mode I can see is for the trophies but like I said I am tired of collecting the Intel and replaying the same missions over and over so I just don’t see that happening. The Elite premium service? Well we will get into that in the multiplayer review of this title.

So for improvements that could have been made (but weren’t), how about a new storyline? How could this not be good to get off the mainstream grid and come up with a whole new story. This would open the floodgates to tons of new situations that will spawn a fresh set of characters. Giving way to many new environments, weapons, and vehicles. The possibilities would have been endless. The problem being it would need an incredible beginning story. Would take a ton of work building new textures and would most likely end the same way all the others do being wash rinsed and repeated.

Overall Score: 6 out of 10

Assassin’s Creed Revelations: Ancestors DLC Announced… Already

Have you picked up your copy of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations yet? No? Okay. Well, there’s already DLC being announced for it. So hopefully you can raise some extra money above and beyond the retail price if you’re interested. The DLC package is being released for a modest $3.99 (320 MS Points) on PSN and Xbox Live Marketplace with 4 new characters for the multiplayer mode.

You’ll catch a few new characters for multiplayer mode… and… well that’s pretty much it unless you count their weapons, assassinations, and ’emotes’ as extra content. This DLC pack will release December 13, 2011 shamelessly less than 30 days after the release of the game itself. I’m sure it’s not already on the disc or anything, like 9% sure.

Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary Preview

I present to you my preview of the remake to the game that jump started the first person shooter console multiplayer scene to a new level that it’s still at today (in classic, HD, and 3D). I am going to give my impressions, predictions, and back up how I got to these conclusions. The campaign was one of the best in the franchise, and I believe one of the best of all time (check my stats). I enjoyed it back in the day, but now there are a lot of new features, such as terminals, that will give more back story and previews of Halo 4.

There also is a scanner with which you can scan dead or alive enemies and learn about them. You can even scan allies and do the same. All of the guns are improved with sounds and the improved game engine makes it easier to fire. It is upgraded with the Halo Reach multiplayer and you don’t need Reach to play the Combat Evolved maps because they’re on the disc already.

The multiplayer will have six maps for competitive multiplayer and one firefight map, the names of which are: Damnation, Beaver Creek, Prisoner, Timberland, Headlong, Hang ‘Em High and the Firefight map, Installation 04 or Battle Canyon, Breakneck, High Noon, Penance, Ridgeline, Solitary, and Installation 04. The names are all over the place but we will see for sure tomorrow. These are great maps, better than any Reach map. I was impressed with these.

The firefight will have some new features, such as having ODST’s help you in combat and of course the pre-order skull Grunt Funereal will pack a plasma punch on your foes. The Halo Combat Evolved pistol will be in the Firefight and Multiplayer as well and will cause a lot of mayhem, but great fun as it will bring the fun Halo original felt back to it.

343 and Microsoft hope this game will bring a lot of great and mystic Halo feel back to it. Fans have been waiting for this game for a reason, so I’m telling you if you have an Xbox 360 this is a must-try (at least). It’s only 40 dollars at launch for all the great features it has, so spartans gear up for Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary on November 15th and if you just want the multiplayer maps to plug in to Reach you can download them for 15 dollars on the Xbox Live Marketplace, see you star-side!

Steam Has Been Hacked: Credit Card Info and More

Worldwide industry source GamaSutra reports that Steam has been hacked via an announcement made by Gabe Newell directly. While the cause of this breach and the exact amount of effected accounts remains unseen, it is confirmed that Credit Card information (and more) has been compromised. Steam makes up a huge segment of the PC Gaming market and is a newfound mecca of gamers across the globe.

Here are the official statements:

“Valve’s games-on-demand Steam service has been hacked, the company said Thursday, saying that a database containing private user information has been stolen.

That information includes user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information, according to an email sent by Valve managing director Gabe Newell to Gamasutra.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Cheaters Will Be Banned Soon

Robert Bowling has announced via public forum that Modern Warfare 3 players who find themselves cheating, glitching, exploiting, and most of all “boosting” will be subject to being banned from the game soon. The first round of what could be a never ending wave of player bans is said to be rolling out in the near future. As for how exactly they planned to stop cheaters in the first place, this is where things get interesting.

Whereas we were told in the past that Treyarch was able to learn from Modern Warfare 2’s mistakes meaning that Black Ops wouldn’t have the same exploit problems. The Modern Warfare 3 team have painted an entirely different picture as to their approach to the problem. In fact they are relying on banning rather than coding away the exploits, or so their public statements would lead us to believe.

The attitude that you can’t ever stop hackers and cheaters, only hope to control them, is a very logic-based approach with widespread support. We had just hoped that possibly this conversation of cheaters and hackers numbering in the thousands and millions would have been over 3 or 4 CODs ago.

Walmart Using Battlefield 3 Features To Sell Modern Warfare 3

In this image discovered by FingerSports you will see what is either a innocent mistake or Walmart take to desperate measures to move more units of Modern Warfare 3. The way we see the Call of Duty: MW3 poster directly above the Battlefield 3 banner and showcase of MW3 copies seems to be a pretty obvious mistake that couldn’t have gone unnoticed by accident, but who are we to judge. Take a look for yourself and see what you think by clicking HERE for the full image.

Halo 4 Rumor Roundup: Detailed Plot + Gameplay Possibilities

There are a few rumors that a 343 Industries worker may have given some info out on Halo 4 (which is set to launch holiday 2012). Now I don’t know how accurate any of this is, or even if any of it is true one bit, but I’ll share what I’ve found with you. According to rumors, 343 Industries are going to focus on story.

This is the Master Cheif 117 John and Cortana’s story as they are on some kind of world or station called Sigma 7. There is also deep levels of customization, not just in the multiplayer. This is also in the campaign mode, possibly similar to the level of Crysis 2 character customization in the story, but a lot better with way more options.

Halo 4 may be an aim game but the shooting style will still be the same just with how you aim down the sights in most FPS games. The battlefields will be larger and more cover-based, possibly even a direct cover system for an FPS, which is unheard of, but may be a great improvement – it is unknown for sure the ramifications of this decision at this time.

As for the main enemy, it is still a mystery but we will most likely not see any Covenant and Flood like in other Halos. The Forerunners are one that is possible, but most leads say they are allies and that the main enemy is a precursor that is even before the Forerunners as the allies, a new ancient evil. I’m thinking that could be true and they can use the machines on the Halo rings to fight you if so.

More rumors suggest that players will also find out a lot about why ONI is on Sigma 7 and they’re downgraded with more human-like weapons and vehicles. Armor abilities will most likely return but will the jet pack and sprint and evade be standard as shown in the trailer? Who knows, but we will find out and I will follow Halo 4 up until the release – so prepare for more in after Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition comes out November 15th.

Check out the Halo 4: Director’s Cut Trailer below if you haven’t caught it already.

You Know You Were Thinking It!

This is a new section I will be doing to expose those hidden thoughts that are in the back of every gamer’s mind. You know you were thinking it!

1. Why does Princess Peach always need to be rescued? After all, the moves she has in various Mario games shows she’s capable of defending herself!

2. Was I the only person to think that Link was actually named Zelda? Talk about confused.

3. Will Sonic The Hedgehog ever die? It’s like the Energizer battery he keeps going and going.

4. Where is Shenmue 3?

5. How Many Mushrooms Can One Man Eat? aka Mario?

6. Did Dom from Gears of War go to Heaven or Hell?

7. Killer Instinct reboot? I hope and pray.

8.How many cakes can a Fat Princess eat?

9. Did MW3 steal all the Zombie’s glory? Uh oh, Zombie Revenge is imminent, or is it just DLC? Just kidding.

10. Finally, wouldn’t it be cool if Cat Women and Ryu from Ninja Gaiden shared a game together? Claws and Heads would be flying. Priceless.
