Afro Samurai 2 Cancelled, Deemed a “Failure”, Refunds Going Out

afro-samurai-2-button-logojpg-a3f01b

The sequel to the 2009 video game is being removed from online stores, including Steam, Xbox Marketplace and the PlayStation store. Volumes 2 and 3 of Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma have also been cancelled according to developer Versus Evil in their recent interview with CGMagazine, citing the first volume as a “failure”. Players who purchase Vol. 1 will be issued refunds.

“We could not do, in good conscience, volume 2 and volume 3. So we’ve begun the process, it’s been a long process to figure it out because Sony has never really had to do this in this way, but we’re returning all the money. So across the board we’re putting out an apology saying ‘sorry about this,” Versus Evil general manager Steve Escalante told CGMagazine.

Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma launched back in September for PC and PS4 (Oct for Xbox One) to a complete thrashing from critics and. The PS4 currently sits at 21/100 on Metacritic with 15 negative reviews.

Batman: Arkham Knight’s Batmobile Edition Has Been Cancelled

Batmobile

The Batmobile Edition for Rocksteady’s Batman: Aarkham Knight has been scrapped, according to user on NeoGaf. Rtbeoh posted a photo of the email they received from UK retailer GAME, which states that due to “unforeseen circumstances that greatly comprised the quality of the Batmobile”, Warner Bros decided to cancel the entire thing.

Cancelled

What’s odd about this whole scenario is how close we are to the release of the game. Hopefully whatever catastrophe that befell the Batmobile statues was rather recent, and WB weren’t sitting on this information for a while. Fans who purchased the Batmobile Edition will have no choice but to purchase the standard edition (Or Red Hood) of the game, since the Limited Edition has been sold out for months.

Batman: Arkham Knight releases on June 23, for PS4, PC and Xbox One.

Ex-SEGA Rep Claims Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode III Cancelled, Dev Alleges “fizzled out as things evolved”

S4,EP1_boxart

Serious allegations have been made by Ken Balough (Ex-SEGA Brand Manager) who seems to be telling the truth in the following SEGA Forum Post about an emerging issue in which Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode III appears to be completely cancelled by Sega Of America.

Conversely to the quality of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 on mobile, developed in part by Christian Whitehead who claims Episode III’s development simply “fizzled out as things evolved”, Sonic The Hedgehog 4’s two existing episodic games released in 2010 (Episode I) and 2012 (Episode II) are not really known for being that high of quality.

That being said, critically everyone appreciated SEGA’s efforts to keep the blue blur alive. We certainly hope that this cancellation is not the last we hear about Sonic, and instead gives birth to something more worthwhile and impressive for the fans.

So far though, fans are taking this cancellation as pretty harsh and neglectful by SEGA towards their Sonic IP, with comparisons being made to Valve’s Half Life episodic content which also never came to exist in a timely fashion.

The Last Guardian Is NOT Cancelled, IGN Doing Dirty Business Again

The Last Guardian NOT Cancelled

You may have seen me tweet earlier that IGN was doing some shady journalism through their IGN Russia brand and posting that The Last Guardian was cancelled, without citing an Author to the article and simply alluding to some mysterious source at Sony that was not identified. Colin Moriarty tweeted about this an hour ago as seen in the image below (verified by the links at the bottom of this article) and was responded to by Scott Rohde of Sony Worldwide Studios who confirmed that the game is in fact NOT cancelled.

Original story below:

It seems fans looking to swing through NYC and beat up bad guys on Xbox One may no longer get the chance.

“We want to inform you that we are revising our release plans for ASM2 on Xbox One,” Publisher Activision revealed to MCV “When and whether ASM2 is released on Xbox One is [to be determined].”

The surprising turn of events for the web head’s latest, was first noted by Gamers Honest Truth after Australian-based EB Games began cancelling pre-orders for the X1 version. A NeoGAF user also noticed that the X1 version was missing from the official website’s promotional art.

The Amazing Spider-man developed by Beenox is still scheduled to launch on April 29 in North America, and May 2 in Europe, for  Xbox 360 and remaining platforms.

Watch Dogs Not Simultaneously Releasing For Wii U; Next Gen Release Date Confirmed

Watch Dogs Wii U Cancelled

The Nintendo Wii U version of Watch Dogs from publisher Ubisoft was announced to be coming “at a later date” which has not been revealed yet. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox ONE versions of the game are expected around April or June with PS3 / Xbox 360 versions arriving simultaneously. The Wii U version is rumored to be cancelled, but Ubisoft has not yet spoken on this rumor and instead insists that some day it will eventually release – just not at the same time as the other console versions. A PC version of the game is still being planned as well according to Ubisoft. This news comes directly from the Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot who announced the Wii U version’s delay to investors today.

Star Wars 1313 Is Probably Gone For Good Now… Despite Petitions & Incredible Gameplay Reveal

Star Wars 1313 Cancelled

Despite a pretty noble Petition Of Over 7,800 Signatures Disney has failed to keep perhaps the most special project of all Star Wars gaming history alive. Worked on passionately by the team at Lucasarts and revealed to the world with real gameplay that clearly showed Star Wars 1313 was perhaps beyond Mass Effect and Uncharted in its level of cinematic action, this project has probably just gotten its final death blow. The US Patent and Trademark Office has revealed that the trademark for the game’s name has been abandoned.

Gamers, hold on to hope – and keep signing that petition.

There’s a remote chance this game project could live on but just have a different name. Unfortunately, given Disney’s track record and LucasFilm’s candid attitude about using the 1313 technology in their films without crediting the original team who developed it – this could just be wishful thinking. RealGamerNewz will keep the world updated with this story as it progresses, take a look at the game below to see what the fuss is all about.

Hitman Ain’t Dead Yet…

Hitman Aint Dead Yet

Recently reports were circulating that a next-generation edition of the Hitman series was being cancelled by Square Enix as per LinkedIn Resume accounts of certain employee accounts in the developer world citing a change from one such title to a mobile title instead. With the worry that there will be too much of a negative down-spin on the company’s image and a settling down of hype for the next Hitman title, Square Enix has decided to kill those rumors right here and now.

A statement was released by Square Enix basically explaining what reporters had scrupulously noticed taking place with the resumes of devs on LinkedIn who were thought to be working on a next-gen Hitman title. These employees work at Eidos Montreal and Square Enix has stated that they are working on high-end mobile titles, some of which are in fact related to the Hitman franchise. S.E. also went on to notify gamers that they can expect a fresh and new installment of the Hitman series to arrive on next-gen eventually and that the title is being developed by IO Interactive who developed the Hitman games independently at first before becoming a major success story with subsequent releases in the franchise.

Although IO has had their ups and downs (*cough cough, Kane & Lynch is trash) we should be happy that the Hitman series is back in the hands of its original creators and give them the benefit of the doubt with revealing what could be a complete revival of the series after the fairly well received Hitman: Absolution title released not too long ago.

EA Listens To Command & Conquer Fans: Free-to-Play C&C Game Cancelled

cc-free

Unfortunately sometimes you have to break some eggs to make an omelette. Perhaps even more unfortunate is the fact that you must sometimes break some eggs, make that omelette only to learn that you have no idea how to cook, throw the omelette in the trash and boycott eggs for the rest of your life. The situation with the previously announced (multiple times) Command & Conquer free-to-play game in development by EA Games is such.

As gamers who love C&C, the RTS genre overall, and feel neither have been anything near their peak of greatness since Red Alert 2, we are happy to see EA Games can this project and put the complete honest truth out there that it was not a C&C game and not a good game at all being formed. In fact, C&C 4 was a terrible installment and C&C free to play was the final proverbial smack in the face for any RTS fan or gamer vaguely remembering the C&C series who might have ended up playing this atrocity.

Sadly, as journalists we are now seeing another team disbanded in an increasingly brutal landscape that is the video games development industry. While we are happy our favorite RTS franchise has been saved from further disgrace, we are never happy to see a development team abolished entirely. Our hopes go out to the team that worked on the game and we sincerely hope they all find comfortable homes developing more games in the near future.

Rumor: Chocobo Racing 3D for Nintendo 3DS Cancelled by Square Enix

Chocobos_Racing_logo

The creator of the original Chocobo Racing PlayStation video game centered around the vast Final Fantasy multi-verse, specifically the Chocobo Racing gameplay that originated from Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation, has stated in an interview with the press that the Nintendo 3DS Chocobo Racing 3D title (which was being handled by h.a.n.d. who also made 2010’s Chocobo’s Crystal Tower as well as FF Fables: Chocobo Tales and FF Fables: Chocobo’s Dungeon on the Nintendo DS under Square Enix) has been cancelled by Square Enix.

The game was originally announced as a launch title for the Nintendo 3DS when the handheld was first given the full reveal treatment. S.E. has yet to issue a statement regarding this rumor at this time, we’ll keep you updated with their response to the current story, if any.

Petition Filed Against EA Games by Fans: ‘Finish Star Wars 1313’

Star Wars 1313 Petition

Upon George Lucas selling LucasArts to Disney, one of the casualties of war was the impressive looking Star Wars 1313 which was visually debuted to massive fanfare and critical acclaim. The title has even spawned several advanced processing techniques which LucasFilm recently bragged are still being used to this day. However, the actual game itself has been cancelled with Disney giving EA Games the exclusive rights to make games under the Star Wars license. Fans are striking back.

In a Petition Filed Against EA Games by Fans, one signature reads:

“It could be said that the sudden cancellation of this game, regardless of circumstance, after it’s initial showing and response from anyone who has seen this product is the single greatest tragedy in gaming entertainment history. Star wars 1313 looked like a fresh setting in an already well known universe and the crowds were about to be wowed only to have our/their dreams swiftly cut down, what a shame. Personally, I would have loved to have seen what this game could’ve become and generally this game could’ve broken boundaries in visuals, storytelling, acting performance and a handful of other things i’d imagine; but, this will take a little more than a petition to breathe life back into 1313. Perhaps electronic arts will pick up the mantle as they already have some stunning star wars products on the way for all of us and they sound quite promising.”

The petition has reached over 6,300 supporters at the time of this posting. It remains unclear if this will have any effect on the future of Star Wars 1313, but we now live in a day and age in which the common gamer’s voice can  be heard louder than ever before. Take a look at the video below and consider signing it. This gameplay video was taken with 100% in-game technology, it was the effort of many years of labor and many back and forth struggles against a poor management system by a great number of passionate and talented developers who might now see all of that work gone to waste.

Shadow of the Eternals Cancelled

Shadow of the Enternals

Shadow of the Eternals has faced a troubled development process, with Precursor Games failing to meet their crowd-funding goals, issues with founder Denis Dyack’s past as Silicon Knights founder placing over 100 developers on the “Special Thanks” section of the credits roll for X-Men: Destiny in addition to Silicon Knights suing and losing the suit against Epic Games for $9 million in counter-claims.

Most recently Precursoer has also felt the need to let go of Ken McCulloch (of unknown importance to the project) who has been charged with allegedly being involved in possessing and distributing child pornography.

It seems as though the Bad PR will never end for Dyack and his new company Precursor Games which has an active community forum clamoring for Shadow of the Eternals to be developed and released. However, Precursor Games has announced this weekend that the project has been placed on hold indefinitely.

“Many of us will be taking a break. For those who are not aware, we all worked on this project as a labor of love and self financed 100% of everything for a over a year to try to make Shadow of the Eternals a reality. Although we did not succeed on doing this, we succeeded in making many friends and starting something that we hope provided value for those involved. We have no regrets.

– The Precursor Games Team”

Gamescom 2013: Phil Fish’s Fez Isn’t Dead…. Yet

Fez PlayStation 4 PlayStation 3 PS Vita

Fez will still be arriving on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita despite its creator’s Twitter outbursts and dramatic departure (read: “rage quit”) from the industry chronicled by many ‘a website. The Super Mario-esque indie game will arrive “soon” according to Sony who announced it on their PlayStation Blog alongside this year’s Gamescom 2013 news.

Will the infamously hated indie developer make a triumphant return to the game industry and complete Japanese-influenced Fez 2 as it seems many fans are promoting and hoping? Only time will tell…. For now Blit Software will be in charge of porting the Xbox 360 exclusive game over which saw its original announcement in 2007 and finally released in 2012 after being delayed from its 2010 release date.
