Psynoix – We Ask Sony About Cross-Play “Every Single Day”

Rocket_League_coverart

At this past E3 Psyonix the developers of Rocket League announced that the game would be coming to the Nintendo Switch. But also that it would support Cross-Play with Xbox One and PC. But Sony has blocked this from happening with the PlayStation 4. Psyonix’s Jeremy Dunham stated in an recent interview that “There have been slight variations on how it’s been presented to us, but essentially it’s the same answer,” that he told Engadget. “It’s, ‘Not right now” or, ‘It’s something we’ll consider.’ That’s paraphrasing, but there hasn’t been any movement.” So it seems in the immediate future  that Sony will not be on the Cross-Play with consoles train. What do you think?

Dragon’s Crown Gets Massive Update w/ New Content For Free

Dragon Crown Dungeon

Dragon’s Crown will be getting a new level cap (players can now go up to level 255 instead of level 99), a brand new dungeon, and a new difficulty setting in the new massive update planned for release from Atlus and Vanillaware. There’s a new quest and it allows players to create their own character. If you’ve already beat the game you don’t have to wait to experience this. Ultimate Difficulty setting is the way players will face a more brutal challenge than ever, and the new dungeon is actually capable of generating “tens of thousands” of variant levels based on it which are randomly altered to be different each time. The name for this level area is The Tower of Mirages, a fitting name for an ever-changing area like this.

Dragon’s Crown Patch Adds Cross-Platform Multiplayer Support on PS3 / Vita

Dragons Crown Cross Platform

In an interesting turn of events, a mis-print turns out to early signify the upcoming features of a patch which is very close to becoming available for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita versions of Dragon’s Crown allowing players to engage in gameplay together across the platforms, regardless of which one they’re on. Atlus has revealed that this feature was implemented due to popular demand from the fans of Dragon’s Crown which has been given unfair treatment from some who chose to focus on its overly sexual art direction rather than its greatly received gameplay.

Diablo III PS3 / PC / PS4 Cross-Platform Potential, Future of Online Gaming

It’s been rumored for awhile now and eventually confirmed at the PlayStation 4 Sony Conference that Diablo III will make it’s way to the PlayStation 3 and recently announced PlayStation 4. My guess is realistically we won’t see it until early next year. This got me thinking, shouldn’t we have some kind of cross-platform gameplay, seeing as the PS4 will be architecturally built like a PC? It would be an idea worth considering since Sony is typically open minded to this sort of thing.

Microsoft attempted this with Shadowrun for the Xbox 360 but it’s execution was pretty underwhelming. Credit should be given to Microsoft for taking the risk and one everyone should take a second look. When Defiance was being published it was learned that the team behind the MMO Shooter wanted to allow 360, PS3, and PC players to game together but Microsoft declined. Microsoft also allowed Final Fantasy XI Online to have cross-platform play, but that was a long time ago.

Sony’s online service has been increasingly improving as of late, while also being very supportive of indie game developers. With this in mind, Perhaps they can extend the same courtesy to PC game makers and come to some kind of agreement on how to implement this gameplay feature.

But I admit, there could be problems. Graphics would be a mixed bag between the versions, online servers might not function properly to operate two different systems and the interface could look like a mess. All because PCs are made to support different system requirements whereas consoles are designed with standardize hardware.

But I’m looking into the future. The lines between consoles and PC continues to blur with each passing year, and one day, they’ll be indistinguishable from each other. It’s inevitable, whether you agree with me or not. Hell, Valve’s Steambox trying to fight it’s way to your living room, so what does that tell you? Maybe this whole article is nothing more than ravings of a madman and cross-platform gaming will never come to pass. But you’ve got to make a few wrong choices to get the right one. Someone has to make the choice. All that’s left is who will choose first, Microsoft or Sony.

Final Fantasy X HD and UMD PassPort Shown at Tokyo PlayStation Vita Event [News WrapUp]

During the Tokyo PlayStation Vita Event Sony Japan was pushing the Instant Game Collection with PlayStation Store and PlayStation Plus at the forefront of the presentation’s introduction. pic Not only games but also applications were shown such as Torne and Reader Store for the PlayStation Vita’s all-in-one-functionality to advance even further.

The Japanese PlayStation Vita’s 3G/Wifi pricing as well as popular and upcoming titles were also discussed.

The trailer for Phantasy Star Online 2 showed gameplay and stable online connections as well as promising plenty of cinematic depth to it. Such a game, online and massively multiplayer, with vast character creation surely would not have been possible in past handheld generations.

A bundle with the white PlayStation Vita and a copy of Phantasy Star Online 2 were shown as well as a live playthrough of an existing build.

Another title shown with cross play between the PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation Portable will be launching side by side for each. The game was shown being played live on the PlayStation Vita with gameplay being shown to seem somewhat reminiscent of Japan’s popular Monster Hunter franchise. An interview took place with industry heavyweight Keiji Inafune who is behind the project.

Soul Sacrifice was also shown with a Premium Edition PlayStation Vita bundle and this one’s red. Pics It is seen in the pictures below on the assembly line. A video of Valhalla Knights 3 was shown next, which also will release 2013.

Gundam Breaker allowing you to customize, create, and destroy huge gundam machines on the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3 in 2013 is next up. This could be just what people need after an Armored Core craving goes unsatisfied.

God Eater 2 was then brought to the presentation. God Eater 2 is the sequel to God Eater Burst which was on PlayStation Portable. God Eater 2, much like Soul Sacrifice, will be released for both PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation Portable and will have cross play connection capabilities between the two devices.

A developer playthrough of God Eater 2 was shown live on PlayStation Vita where the games clean interface and high fidelity graphics were on display.

The UMD Passport Program was announced for God Eater Burst, giving gamers the title from their PlayStation Portable collection onto their PlayStation Vita system.

Finally, the Final Fantasy X HD remaster Square Enix announced not too long ago was shown running on the PlayStation Vita.

The rest of this article below is from 2012 and remains unedited since the Rumor was confirmed to be true at the later PS4 Reveal Show:

RealGamerNewz reported not too long ago that although Blizzard Entertainment was actively seeking a console solution to their PC exclusive title Diablo III (which released to much fanfare last month).

However, at the time it appeared that the Xbox 360 version of the game could have been holding this undertaking back in a big way. Further rumors speculated that Blizzard might be looking at the option of canceling the console version of the game, though a PS3 version has recently been revealed.

Aaron Alexander of Planet PlayStation reports on the late-breaking rumor just discovered due to a german listing for the game on PlayStation 3 to be released this year. As Aaron notes, Sony has been known for its open online network PlayStation Network.

Rather than paying Blizzard, Sony may be harnessing their ability to allow developers and publishers to take control of their intellectual properties for custom solutions such as user-generated content, cross-platform play, dedicated servers, and even SteamWorks support from Valve.
