Sega Losing Profits due to Lack of Releases

Sega logo

Now we all remember Sega. The once great company that brought us Sonic, Tails, and that Fat Purple Cat has been losing it’s edge when it comes to releasing games. A couple years ago Sega had released a few pretty decent games, though recently they haven’t been on top of their game releases.

So far they have seen their profits decrease about 57%. During the single quarter of April and June, and we only saw a single game release which only sold about 250,000 copies, that game was Persona Q. Now I am not an expert when it comes to game releases, but I think its going to take a lot more than a single release to beef up their profits. Sega isn’t the only AAA company having this issue.

With Crytek having to sell the rights to Homefront off to deep silver, and Capcom on the market to be bought out, Sega and other AAA companies may no be to far behind. Although we will see some games being released soon in the year ahead like Sonic Boom, and Alien Isolation, we don’t know for sure if it will be enough to get them out of the hole.

ALERT: Koch Media Has Acquired Homefront IP + Deep Silver Dambuster Studios is Born!

Deep Silver Logo

Deep Silver and parent company Koch Media have taken over the Homefront IP including all assets recently created by Crytek. Homefront: The Revolution will now be developed by Deep Silver Dambuster Studios which has been founded for the project in Nottingham and consists of industry talent with years of experience. The CEO of Koch Media Group took a moment to speak on this occasion.

“We are thrilled to see another great IP joining the Deep Silver universe,” says Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media Group. “We strongly believe in the potential of Homefront: The Revolution and trust in the new team to continue the path they have been walking in the last years.”

Just how bad is the situation at Crytek? We’re not really sure, but at this point it’s becoming clear how things stand for the company that brought us titles like Crysis and TimeSplitters. In any event, it’s excellent to see Deep Silver step up to the plate and keep Homefront: The Revolution alive while making a serious gain and it’s refreshing to see Koch Media Group investing even more into the games industry which they’ve been so successful in to date.

Editor’s Note: Deep Silver was already co-publishing this title, and this move seems to have saved the game from cancellation. It’s likely that the overall direction of the game will continue forward as planned with original vision intact (or perhaps even improved). Crytek has refused to service fans who have been demanding a new TimeSplitters for decades and they could be about to pay the ultimate price as their unpopular high fidelity Crytek Engine ends up costing them so much in the long run.

Here’s All The Info About Homefront: The Revolution – OPEN WORLD, POLICE STATE FPS

Homefront The Revolution

Whoa, there’s going to be another Homefront game? That’s right. The evil trash monsters at THQ were unable to hold this franchise back (thank God) and the industry will be seeing a sequel to the game that many felt was slept on but a great first person shooter experience both in gripping single player based on the emotions fueled by a new world war taking place on American soil as well as its online multiplayer with dedicated servers. The new title appears to not feature competitive multiplayer (unless it has yet to be announced) but will provide 4 player co-op and is being published through a co-publishing agreement naming Deep Silver and Crytek as both publishers on the deal.

Stepping up to the plate to make this possible is our good ol’ friends at the ever ambitious and ever badazz games publishing firm Deep Silver (who you may remember recently brought Saints Row IV back to life from the pits of THQ hell as well). The development will be handled by none other than Crytek.

This game takes place in an alternate near-future during which the United States has been occupied by an enemy force the past 4 years by Korea. It’s up to the people of America to take this country back and liberate it from a purely brutal military force but unlike the first Homefront this game takes place long after that initial invasion and those who would join you are quelled into silence and non-action – requiring you to spark their hope in fighting back against the reality they’ve been waking up to every day for the past half of a decade.

HOMEFRONT THE REVOLUTION ANNOUNCE 3

Details about the game:

– Open World First Person Shooter – Day and Night dynamically change as the suburbs of Philly are defended by an underground rebellion against an invading force. Crytek’s Nottingham studio is in charge of the development of this title which is also boasting an increased graphical fidelity thanks to a change of technology utilizing the next-gen consoles and latest computer hardware respectively.

– Philadelphia Police State – For those who don’t know, this is a setting that basically means Martial Law. Think about cops equipped with full assault equipment and roaming neighborhoods making sure people are either detained, docile, or laying down without breathing. Similar to the intense setting that we saw in the original Homefront, Crytek’s new game The Revolution is expected to pull at some heart strings and present somewhat feasible problems that Americans could face in the future (but hopefully won’t).

– Guerrilla Tool Kit + Revolutionary Warfare – Players are tasked with salvaging interesting items and gun parts they find in order to create home-made weapons out of them. Beyond this, players are also going to have to pick and choose their battles using tactics and strategy that are appropriate for such a lopsided battle. The American Army is lacking most, if not all, of its power since Korea has seized it for themselves. Players also have to create their own “Safe Houses” and recruit soldiers to their team. Crytek has even stated that many of the battles are completely unscripted.

– Four Player Online Co-Op “Heroes of the Revolution” Mode

HOMEFRONT THE REVOLUTION ANNOUNCE 7

Conclusion:

Taking Homefront into the open world space and bringing players into a narrative about revolution in defense against invaders, that is close to home will likely redefine the game and bring out the best elements of the original while doing so. Crytek definitely has the catalog to be trustworthy based on resume when it comes to preserving the integrity of the gameplay (specifically the feel of the shooting mechanics and battles) that Homefront presented as well.

It will be some time until we learn more about the title, and 2015 before the game launches for XO, PS4, and Computer platforms. For now, this is all the info we have available. Check out the video released today with this announcement as well as official hi-resolution images below.

Microsoft VS Gamestop – RYSE Son Of Rome Cheaper Digital Than Used

RyseSonOfRome_TheFallSeries_480

Microsoft stepped up to the plate to put a dent in Gamestop’s Used Games business and help ease the transition to digital by offering up a discount on RYSE: Son of Rome for Xbox ONE exclusively (and developed by Crytek). This title will be made available for $39.99 already for a limited time (February 18 – February 24, 2014) which some claim is cheaper than any Gamestop has it used, and is definitely cheaper than the physical price of a New copy on the other popular place to get games, Amazon.

Other sales include Dishonored on Xbox 360 for about 10 bucks and change (after the tax), $10.77 if you’re from the east coast.

New State of Decay DLC Hitting Xbox 360 + Windows PC Simultaneously w/ New Map

State of Decay DLC Lifeline Map Xbox 360

The new DLC releasing for survival horror title State of Decay on Xbox 360 and Windows PC platforms does not yet have a release date. However, developer Undead Labs has released a new blog post chatting a bit about the expansion and in it a formal announcement that State of Decay: Lifeline will bring a new map to the game. New features are hinted at, but Undead Labs insists they aren’t prepared to promise anything beyond the fact that a new map is being added to the game. Hang on tight for more details as they become available. If you missed it, check out our State of Decay Review.

Titanfall Alpha Testing Applications Open; Invites Being Sent

Titanfall Xbox ONE

EA Games and Respawn Entertainment have began to accept Alpha Test Applications and from the sounds of some internet forum lately, invites are already being sent out. You can sign up now and all you need is the dreaded Origin account that all PC Gaming die hards reluctantly have in order to play Battlefield on a PC these days, however – registration is pretty simple and straight forward. You’re not required to buy anything to be eligible – but if you have some time in shooter games recorded via Origin it probably wouldn’t your chances either. Thanks to MrBrodo789 (Sub his YouTube Here) for the tip.

By the way, it is still completely unknown which developer is handling the Xbox 360 version of this game which was started off by Respawn Entertainment but is being finished by a different development studio while the Xbox ONE and Windows PC versions of the game will be handled by Respawn. Even IGN doesn’t know yet according to their latest Xbox podcast. This likely means the true experience will not be reflected on the Xbox 360 console but rather could be a more powerful experience that requires the Windows PC and Xbox ONE hardware. For those that don’t know, Respawn is made up primarily of core team members who invented and developed Call of Duty from the start as well as its two main creators who are also responsible for the original Medal of Honor series from old school gaming days.

Ryse : Son of Rome Xbox ONE Review

Ryse_box_art

Ryse: Son of Rome is a third person action/adventure game developed by Crytek and published by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox ONE. The game follows Roman commander Marius as he leads his armada against the invading barbarians and tells of his story to his rise to power.

The game is set in Ancient Rome before the fall of the empire and the setting feels immersive so players will really feel as if they are there with the characters on-screen. Crytek really did a good job in harnessing the power of the Xbox ONE for this game. Every sound in this game (the music, the voice actors, the effects) will really boom in your sound system or speaker setups. The level of quality in this game is on par with that of a movie and will really keep you in tune with what’s going on around you.

Ryse_Oswald_Marius_000392-640x360

Once you first step on the battlefield with Marius there is no turning back. The game guides you into using the controls and never holds your hand even when set on an easier difficulty. You use the X button to attack, the Y to break your opponent’s block, the A button to block/parry and the B to dodge powerful attacks. The enemies will come at you non-stop and are varied to keep you on your toes. Luckily ending your attackers is made amazingly fun with executions. When your enemy is near death you can hit the right trigger and then hit the corresponding buttons in the quick time event to knock off your pursuers in a brutal way.

Ryse-Son-of-Rome-screen-2

The locales will throw many different scenarios at you to advance and you have to adapt on the fly to meet the threat of the barbarians head. Marius also has a focus meter where he can use powers of the gods to dispatch his enemies by slowing down time and other special moves. When the bodies and blood of your enemies start to drop Marius will gain experience to expand his health and focus meters, attack powers and executions. There are also weapons you can acquire in the field to handle certain situations and the different types of enemies. Marius can also command a Roman Armada by holding the positions, making formations, mending weapons, and more to gain grown on the opposing forces. The only thing the single player lacks is limited interactivity with objects in the environment and game-world and you can’t customize Marius like your online gladiator but other than these noticeable deficiencies the campaign is glorious.

When players step into the online arena they take the role of a rookie gladiator and follow him along the rise to fame. You can step into the area with another gladiator or go in alone to claim the prize and glory for yourself. You can choose a god to align with and gain certain abilities and perks to customize your fighter. In the arena you have to advance through the objectives to keep the crowd happy and gain experience points. The enemies in the online mode are more powerful than the ones in single player and the area will change during your match. The downfall of this mode is the limited amount of objectives and maps. This may be fixed in future DLC but we will have to wait and see if Crytek delivers them and delivers them properly.

Final Verdict:

Crytek has engineered an amazing adventure in Ryse: Son of Rome in both single-player and multiplayer. Lack of Interactivity with the game world, lack of a substantial variety in multiplayer content, and equal mode character customization across multi and single player offerings hold it back from being a classic. Ryse is still a flagship title for the Xbox ONE and a must own for all who have the system.
