[Update] Are Smoke and Kenshi set to Return in Mortal Kombat X?

Update: It could also be Ermac, the warrior composed of multiple souls who also has psychokinetic abilities.

Original story below:

Ever the one for hints, Ed Boon co-creator of the Mortal Kombat games recently sent out another tweet that could possibly be hinting at the next fighter to join MKX’s roster.

Here’s his tweet about a “smoked” ham being sold at Walmart.

Many fans are now assuming that Sub-Zero’s fellow Lin Kuei clan member and close friend Smoke, will be making a return. Though knowing Boon, it might not be that easy. Just last month he sent out a tweet saying, “Beyonce vs Freddy Mercury. I’m sure a somewhat JADED comparison, but entertaining nonetheless…”

This lead to the speculation that Jade would make a return as well, but it turned out to be a case of classic misdirection as the sorcerer Quan Chi was revealed.  His magic spells are of a green color after all.

Boon also sent out another tweet, this time of two men posing in motion capture suits with the caption “???? Wins …. Fatality! #MKX #MotionCapture”.

The scene bares a striking resemblance to one of the special moves of the blind swordsman Kenshi. The gentleman on the left is clearly mo-capping as a character who uses telekinesis and Kenshi possess psychokinetic powers that allows him to throw his opponents around like rag dolls.

So will two make a return? Stay tuned to RGN to find out once they are revealed.

Gamescom 2014: Kano Officially Revealed in Mortal Kombat X With Video

11_kano04

A new trailer has been released today confirming the return of Mortal Kombat veteran, Kano. The video features commentary from MK co-creator Ed Boon, who goes into detail of the mercenary’s three different but equally deadly fighting styles; Cybernetic (eye-laser and grenade attacks), Commando (better grappling skills), and Cutthroat (“enhanced knife-fighting skills”).

Boon refers to Kano as “bit older, but with all his cybernetic upgrades, he’s deadlier than ever.” I’m guessing 20+ years only counts as a “bit”. The video below sees Kano face off against D’Vorah, one of MKX’s newest kombatants and ends with a brief glimpse of his gruesome fatality.

Mortal Kombat X launches next year for PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Leaked Screenshots For Mortal Kombat X Feature Kano; A New Playable Kharacter To Be Revealed

Kanocutmk9cut9

The ruthless mercenary is joining the roster of fighters in NetherRealm’s sequel to 2009’s Mortal Kombat. Apparently a new playable fighter will also be revealed soon according to an online user.

The screens were taken from German magazine, GamePro claims one niketalk forum user. Another forum user states the magazine features a cover quote that was roughly translated:

“promises the scandalous fighter will set standards in more than just brutality!”

MKOmmunity user MKKosh claims the magazine is set to reveal a new playable kharacter. If this is who MK co-creator Ed Boon was referencing when he said Gamescom 2014 would see a MKX reveal, remains to be seen. The even is in just a few short weeks so stay tuned to RGN for more info as it arises. For now check out the leaked screens below of Kano in action against Kotal Kahn, one of Mortal Kombat X’s newest. I can’t read German, but what I’ve gathered from the small text is that one of Kano’s three fighting styles in the game is wrestling.
