Elder Scrolls Online Gets New Trailer, Will Be Free to Play on PS4 / Xbox ONE

RealGamerNewz - MMORPG Elder Scrolls Online - Xbox One - PlayStation 4

For those who don’t know, Elder Scrolls Online from Zenimax Online Studios and Bethesda Softworks will be completely free to play when it releases for the Xbox ONE and PlayStation 4 systems on June 9, 2015 although you’ll still have to buy the game itself to gain access. The MMORPG title currently available for Windows PC and Mac OS X computer platforms has received mixed reviews and feedback from the gaming community / press with some claiming it’s everything they ever wanted in an Elder Scrolls multiplayer adaption despite leaving some things to be desired in the opinions of others who are less impressed. This summer, for the first time, console-only gamers will get to find out what they feel about the MMORPG version for one of the industry’s favorite Western Action RPG franchises. Take a look at the latest trailer below which launched yesterday showcasing the game’s world, dungeons, daily challenges, customization systems, animations, many content updates, and more.

Sony’s Upcoming H1Z1 Gets Mixed Beta Feedback, Is It Pay To Win?

H1Z1 Sony Pay To Win Steam PS4 RealGamerNewz

Named Most Anticipated Survival Game of 2015 by GameHaunt, Sony’s got a lot vested in H1Z1. They’ve grabbed a proven formula fresh off of ArmA II’s DayZ Mod (and subsequent title DayZ Standalone) and have manufactured their own flavor of said formula. With the promise of seeing a new twist on the zombie survival genre, Sony Online Entertainment has gained the attention of gamers worldwide.

Hz1Z will be released for PlayStation 4 “eventually” (most assume this year) and is currently available for Windows PC through the wildly popular Steam platform, but on their Early Access section meaning that this is simply a Beta and not final product. It would be easy to say “this game is getting bad reviews,” or “the computer version has mixed reviews so far,” but this would be fundamentally irresponsible as this is an Early Access release.

However, that being said, mixed Beta Feedback is what we can confidently say is being presented by the Steam community of PC gamers who have given it a shot in the 2 days that H1Z1 has been open to Early Access users for $19.99 – $39.99 of kick-in. The final product will be made available Free-To-Play on PlayStation 4 and Steam, which actually brings us to the meat of this topic.

Sony had claimed early on that they were aiming to make H1Z1 fair, fun, and balanced for all players – regardless of their pay-in level or if they were just playing completely for free. In short, they promised not to break the game for profit’s sake through a Pay-To-Win formula, while at the same time criticizing some games that did so in the genre. Since the particular game they chose to model H1Z1 after began as a free mod, it is pretty obvious that in-app purchases are going to be hard for PC gamers to tolerate if not placed in the game gracefully by Sony Online Entertainment.

H1Z1 RealGamerNewz PS4 Free To Play

Hopefully Sony is still open to feedback, Steam users are speaking right now about the current Early Access release – and most of them are not happy. Here are a few of the key points touched on by Steam Reviews:

  • “Pay to win // Air drops containt weapons, ammo and back packs which they said they wouldn’t do”
  • 957 of 1,069 people (90%) found this review helpful

Then there’s the case in which a Steam Review actually paraphrases Sony Online Entertainment’s quote:

“We will NOT be selling Guns, Ammo, Food, Water… i.e. That’s kind of the whole game and it would suck in our opinion if we did that.”

Only to also quote their later backtrack and going back on their word, doing exactly what they said they would not:

“We have made the decision to allow paid for airdrops into the game with things like guns and other things being randomly selected as part of the airdrop. We’re making them highly contested and building a whole set of rules around this, but you should be aware that our goal is to make this a way to keep things interesting on the servers but still be contested. If these offend your sensibilities just know that they are going to be there. We have gone out of our way to make sure the airdrops are contested in-game and that you can’t simply expect to easily walk about to the airdrop and grab it. Even if you paid for it. “

  • 2,006 of 2,318 people (87%) found this review helpful

H1Z1 Early Access Steam

Based on these two Reviews alone, and the amount of people who have expressed agreement with them, it seems Sony Online Entertainment has upset their fans and left them feeling like they were lied to. Was this false advertising? Do you feel this is enough evidence to say the game is really Pay-To-Win?

Update: H1Z1 refunds being offered by SOE for limited time

Dead Island Epidemic Hands-On Preview [HD Gameplay Videocast]

Dead Island Epidemic RealGamerNewz Beat

Dead Island: Epidemic is a newly forthcoming Zombie Online Multiplayer Battle Arena (ZOMBA / MOBA) title from Deep Silver capitalizing on the survival epic franchise in a new genre. Me and Public Relations Editor Josh had a chance to get our hands on it along with a number of other members in the team and the result is a fun experience that you can compare to League of Legends meets Diablo mixed with Zombies. WSAD style movement with mouse aiming and attacking are used while C switches between melee and ranged weapons. Players get to level up one of three characters which gain Hero powers as a session goes on through leveling up and staying alive (teamwork is key for the latter).

Mines, healing, enemies that can incapacitate players or stun them, upgradable skills across characters, parts, blueprints, the ability to buy / sell / repair / boost weapons, consumables, workbench abilities, and shop items are just some of the ways players will step their game up between matches. Although horde mode which sees co-op action taking place against zombies in waves, with friends or strangers, seems to be the most popular at this time there are also other offerings including Player Versus Player content. Currently Mutated Berg, Mutated Amber, and Wanta represent in the cast of characters with character points and coins being side objectives as well as the ability to Unbind XP showing up for those experts looking to re-spec a character their own way.

Dead Island Epidemic RealGamerNewz

In the following video PR Editor Josh and myself (Editor-In-Chief Jon) jump in with our own homemade Gameplay Footage (in high definition) as well as our discussion and thoughts upon the game. We will release more gameplay footage as time goes on as well as revisit the title’s final release with even more thoughts. Some of the highlights of Dead Island: Epidemic include the Boss Fights and the Enemy Design which pays homeage to titles like Left 4 Dead 2.

April Fools Debunked: moWow Studios Use Prank To Shed Light On Background Bitcoin Mining In Games Without User Consent

The following is an April Fools Debunked Joke Post:

April Fools Debunked: moWow Studios Use Prank To Shed Light On Background Bitcoin Mining In Games Without User Consent

Scroll to the Bottom for Further Info

There are many ways that gamers can play games seemingly for free these days. These usually lead to a player shelling out some cash for micro-transactions, increased time with certain activities the game offers, or removing other sorts of limitations placed by the developer in hopes players like the game enough to pour cash in and continue on. Alternatively, more pure free-to-play games have simply used advertisements in-game and try to keep players playing, coming back, and telling friends in order to produce as much ad revenue as possible. This is how games like Flappy Bird make money. However, moWow Studios has thought of a new way to do things.

With the advent of Bitcoin many have dived into mining their own, but power consumption issues means these endeavors are not always a winning gamble. Distributed computing has also been seen before with services like Folding@Home on the PlayStation 3 which was used to help solve biological equations for efforts towards curing diseases. Everyone who had a PS3 and opted into this program had their PS3’s computing resources shared for the purpose of this cause.

Now, gamers can help get money to the developer of a game without seeing ads, without experiencing gameplay limitations, and without making purchases of any kind. moWow Studios has chronicled their experience so far on Gamasutra and essentially announced their success to the games industry in having users forfeit computing resources to mine Bitcoin for moWow Studios in the background resulting in the totally free (no strings attached) free gameplay experience being expanded soon at no charge, and the other monetization methods potentially being removed (no ads, yay)!

Full implications to this case have yet to be seen, but the precedence has been set! Take a look at some of the more interesting tidbits of info released by moWow Games:

  • “light launch on the 18th of December last year”
  • “At present, “The Way Home” has earned a little over $3000 via mining.”
  • “around 50 to 100 downloads on a daily basis”
  • “the content that is in the game so far keeps the players active for an average of 2 weeks”

April-Fools-Day

“So why did we choose this topic? Why did we choose the Bitcoin mining in games/apps? Well, here are a few reasons:

  1. Some people have already done this without notifying or telling the users about it. Fundamentally that is wrong. It is even more so when the mining drains your phone’s battery and uses 100% of your CPU and GPU.

  2. After the few incidents that did occur with devs mining Bitcoin without notice (and sadly some are probably still doing it), people will be searching for more info on how to do it (again, sadly). Hopefully, they will come across this post and all your comments on Hacker News / Reddit / Facebook and hopefully refrain from doing such things.

  3. The idea of having a passive monetization mechanic was intriguing to us. We always try and build the game and the monetization/IAPs so that the player’s experience is not interrupted. We hate bad experiences. You are finally enjoying the game and then an ad pops up. Or you’re in the middle of a story and then you need to pay to read the rest.

Bitcoin will not be the answer to our third question, but we are curious whether it is possible in some way for the player (having been fully informed) to trade off some of the processing power of the phone in order to gain money in the game.

The best April Fools’ pranks that we experienced (suffered) were the ones that were half believable. That is why we also chose this topic. You wouldn’t have believed us if we said that we bought EA. No hard feelings.”

Dragons and Titans Review

100000392-d427924d1f-GameTileTakeover450x215

Dragons and Titans is a free-to-play MOBA similar to Dota 2 and LoL. However, in Dragon and Titans your goal is much different in concept. In League and Dota they both feature ancients that the other team must destroy, but in Dragons and Titans you take control of a dragon with a throwaway character on top of it and the goal is to free your Titan by destroying the Titan cage. Similar concept, but executed in a different manner. The first thing you are forced to do is the prologue, which luckily you can skip through, but new players may want to sit through it.

The gameplay featured in Dragon and Titans is somewhat like a more simplistic approach to MOBA gaming. While some players may struggle at the start this game is seemingly much easier to get the hang of as seasoned MOBA player. You have your standard abilities brought up by the dragons and then added abilities from the weapon you choose. The weapons and dragons are unlockable through in game currency which you can earn as well as just buy the packs.

Dragons come in a pack of 3 and to hatch them you need $4.99 and for a pack of weapons it is only $1.99. Both are crucial to your experience, but you do get free weapons and dragons. However, some people in the community feel as if the game is Pay To Win. While I have not played long enough to outright say this a P2W game, I understand where the concern comes from, the dragons in weapons do actually drop in battle randomly though. It is just a faster way if you buy them. The games on average last about 20 minutes as wello which is below average for competitive MOBA games.

Dragons and Titans 3

The movement is different from the traditional MOBA as well. Instead of clicking the map you instant actually have to direct your dragon around the map. The major difference here being that the map is actually significantly smaller than maps like DOTA 2 and LoL. The maps are more straightforward and at times can feel kind of barren with the way they are set up. The game features 3 match types MOBA… for the MOBA players, Capture the point where you…. capture the point, and ARAM where your dragons are randomly selected and you have to free your titan from a single lane. Dragons and Titans has something you won’t see in most MOBAs either it has a singleplayer campaign. Which may not have the best storyline, but is a great place for ‘newbs’ to work on their skills.

The graphics in this game feel outdated and at times can look really ugly. The maps, dragons, and weapons are obviously where they show the most and aren’t on par with the modern MOBAs making it sink below their level. The maps do not hold a lot of detail and are somewhat smaller maps. The dragons hold some detail, but the rider has little to none. Overall though the game’s graphics are not doing the player any favors and look like something from 2010. With vague details everywhere the game’s beauty is nothing really to brag about. It has the same feeling with the voice acting. They aren’t terrible actors, but the voice and audio effects just sound like they were cheaply produced.

Chaotic-titan

Overall though Dragons & Titans comes off as a bad LoL and DOTA 2 ripoff to the more experienced MOBA players. It is easy to suggest Dragons & Titans to inexperienced players to get them started and save the better MOBAs for when they have some experience under their belts, but it is hard to recommend Dragons & Titans to anyone looking for a more in-depth experience. If you want a great MOBA experience and not a cheap one stick with the one you enjoy. This is not a game changer in any means whatsoever.

Dragons & Titans may be enjoyable to you if you find DOTA 2 and LoL too hard, but to anyone else I would recommend staying away and saving your time. While Dragons & Titans would have been a solid MOBA game in 2008 (Before LoL came out) in 2014 it falls flat on its face with clunky fighting mechanics, subpar graphics and audio, and a system that can feel P2W at times. It isn’t exactly horrible, but it isn’t exactly good either.

Overall Score: 4.5/10
