Aspire Switch

The Aspire Switch comes in a variety of forms but at its core it’s an amazingly priced Windows 8 Tablet / Computer hybrid. I’ve been wanting one of these for a while but the price just wasn’t right. This means, full desktop applications that you already use on your tower at home, but on a way faster disk drive with great display and metro mode for when you just need tablet convenience.

Tristan’s Christmas Shopping Guide For Gamers

1476515_436093866490818_896999654_n

Some titles and systems should be on the top of people’s list this holiday but everyone is different what you like or don’t like someone else may have a different idea. But I am here to help with that.

Console Choice: If you’re a parent looking for something for your young kids it’s best to pick up a Wii U or a Wii since it’s cheaper but PS4 would be the ultimate for them due to all of the cool indies. If you’re really into online gaming or someone you know is Xbox ONE is probably the best choice unless you’re looking to save money than get PS3 because the online multiplayer is free. If you’re just looking for a better experience and money saved then you get a PS4 with a camera.

Online Game: The first choice if you’re looking for some fun easy jump in, jump out of gaming or something for your kid in high school then Call of Duty Ghosts is a good choice. If you’re looking for something new to try in huge look of things Guild Wars 2 is a good buy. A good Christmas game for next gen could be Killzone: Shadow Fall or Dead Rising 3 for some co op fun. GTA V is a must have regardless. Even the online is worth it.

Best Overall Game: GTA V of course again, The Last of Us, Super Mario 3D World, and a few others but remember this; we need a lot of Christmas spirit.

Mad Max – Gameplay Revealed in New Video from WB Games [XO, PS4, 360, PS3, PC]; It Looks Good

Mad Max Nex Gen Video Game

Mad Max is the brand that arguably paved the way for the post-apocalyptic theme that is currently being widely embraced after slowly climbing in popularity among video game, television, music, and film audiences worldwide. Originally a movie that helped define a genre, Mad Max is now a video game heading to release on the next-generation video game consoles from Sony and Microsoft releasing later this year (XO and PS4, or Xbox ONE and PlayStation 4 respectively), with versions of the game releasing for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC as well. Mad Max drops in 2014 and is now available for pre-order.

Today a new trailer was released for the game giving us the emotion that starts this title off as well as the first glimpse at a few of the different gameplay elements the title will feature. There has been some online hate against the video from skeptics, which may explain why WB Games have turned off the comments for it, however we’d have to say it’s shaping up to look like a promising experience for anybody into the Mad Max franchise, or even the theme it has helped to inspire which now seems to be everywhere we turn.

With the launch of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D on May 23rd, and another awesome month for Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon this has helped sales for Nintendo increase by over 60% the same time last year. Nintendo 3DS also had two of the top 3 SKUs for the month with Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon at No. 3 and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D at No. 2.

PlayStation Vita Price Cut Could Come to United States

The next generation Sony handheld PlayStation Vita has released and met with a mixed emotion of love and hate depending on who you ask. Recently the PlayStation Vita has been under fire with analysts and web-journalists all throwing in their 2 cents about what Sony should or should not do in order to get the Vita moving impressive units and creating a larger install-base.

Take a look at the recent price drop for the PlayStation Vita in Japan and its effect on business though. Sony may have found its solution to its problem of getting passed the early adopter stage and cross into the golden period for their dedicated handheld.

The PlayStation Vita’s price was set to ¥19,980 (roughly $215 American or €165 Euros). This price drop from the original ¥24,980 (comparable to $270 American or €205 Euros). Both 3G+Wifi and Wifi-Only models were reduced to the ¥19,980 price point.

In the image below (enlarge by clicking here) you will see Japan retailer Akihabara with only two PlayStation Vitas left for sale as a result of the price drop.

All that’s left to see is when the PlayStation Vita will receive its price drop and what the new price will be. It is sure to be scooped up by the massive consumer-base in North America (and Europe for that matter) as the holiday buying begins to set in earlier and earlier each year due to the global economic downturn. Leave us your thoughts on this inevitable event to come for gaming.

Starhawk Private Multiplayer Beta 1.0.2 + 1.0.3 First Impressions

The Starhawk Private Beta has begun. Invites started rolling out on Tuesday November the twenty-second. We were lucky enough to get a code before the masses arrived. The first thing you will get to do is spawn. Not a big deal right but wait, you don’t just spawn you get to drop from the outer atmosphere in a fiery pod. Select where on the part of the map that your team controls. This can also be used as a weapon by aiming for the enemy while getting ready to spawn and controlling your fall with a  target landing mark that moves with you as the pod gets closer to hitting ground.

In the beginning of the match after ‘podding’ down from space it’s a fast and furious race to get building. Identifying strategic choke-points in maps is essential to seeing every weapon and vehicle you will be needing. You will need to find out how many protection structures your flag will need as well so they can be built then used. This is the build and battle feature that has transformed this series into a strategically enhanced super fast action third person shooter.

Each build includes either a weapon storage location where your teammates can load up or houses a vehicle such as the Razorback – a futuristic version of a jeep that has a mounted 50 cal on the back and seats three. Don’t worry, the other passenger can also wield his rifle at the same time. Some of the other buildings house the jet pack dispensers, and the holy grail of weapons the Mech-Hawk.

The Mech-Hawk brings back the Warhawk flight style air battles with the twist of being able to transform back into an unmatched ground force in the blink of an eye taking all of the weapons from the aircraft with it and adding the power to just stomp people out as they run away in fear. This new hybrid vehicle is the ultimate weapon.

The maps we have seen so far are futuristic to say the least with everything from acid spewing oceans to outer space platforms hovering far above the planets sporting awesome visual details from every possible angle. After logging quite a few hours I would find it hard to believe anyone if they said they were not enjoying it.

In all other games you race out to gain position looking for the perfect spot to set up and get ready for the war. In this game you make your spot wherever you want including directly in the enemies camp. But don’t expect to be there long because they can destroy it just as fast as you can build it. Put up a sniper tower in any location you want climb up to the perch and your weapon and ammo are sitting there waiting for you.

Not only can you drop down and nail the enemy with your spawn pod but you can also decimate the enemy with any one of your buildings if your timing is right. Taking bases requires a beacon to be placed so that you and your team may spawn there and begin to build your fortress the whole time while pushing forward toward the enemy forces.

In this early beta only thirty-two structures are allowed for the eight player team. Not to worry, the structures also come with the ability to reclaim them in order to better enhance your strategy or to just build something you’re needing more than what’s already there. For instance, you have built a fortress of walls around your flag or in your base blocking all entrances and you need something for the forward bases. No problem, simply reclaim the stuff you’re not using and communicate with the team letting them know what you need and where you need it placed.

So far I have to say it has been a long time for many of us Warhawk veterans waiting in anticipation for this release, even when mum was the word for so long until the secret PlayStation 3 exclusive became a reality. The hardcore Warhawk fans knew that something was in the works all along. Dylan Jobe and his team over at Light Box Interactive have not disappointed with their latest installment and I have to say they have exceeded my expectations. Having logged over three thousand hours in their previous game Warhawk, I do not say that lightly.

The best part is there’s even more coming! I’m talking more vehicles, more maps, more modes, even the addition of a story mode will be in the mix before it’s all said and done. This is just the beginning of what players are going to get when they purchase Starhawk. Not to mention the unbelievable amount of replay value this title will have. I’m expecting the same, if not more than Warhawk which is still enjoyed online daily after its release in 2007.
