UPDATED: Anonymous Claims They Hacked Xbox Live, And They’re Not Done Yet

***UPDATED*** Scroll to the bottom for the latest information on this story.

Microsoft’s Xbox Live went down last night and was still down at 6AM this morning when RealGamerNewz made its report on the situation at hand. Now the explosive details have emerged that “hacktivist” (Hacker Activist) group Anonymous is taking credit for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 downtime across social networks such as Library of Congress-Monitored “Twitter”. This may be in response to the forced resignation of Adam Orth due to the hacker group’s history for advocating freedom of speech rights. The primal result of this occurrence is that the world now knows the arrests made recently when hacker group LulzSec was co-operating with the FBI will not be the last of this group of shadow enforcers attempting to change history through non-violent means.

Another potential reason why this group who took down PlayStation Network in 2011 for over a month could be targeting Xbox Live this time around is because of the rumored Xbox 720 Big Brother software which maps your identity based on your facial bone structure which is stored in a database that Microsoft has admitted is “100% transparent with the United States” [read: government] and has a Kinect 2 camera built-in while also introducing once and for all the dreaded Online-Only gaming console experience.

Anonymous has stated that although Microsoft may have gotten the Xbox Live servers up and running again, they are not done with them by a long shot. Reporters close to the matter are even saying that there is a full download of data occurring including Credit Card information (though it will likely be heavily encrypted), email addresses, and anything else that can be obtained in an effort to prove that Microsoft should not be trusted with the massive amount of data they intend to harvest with the Big Brother software/hardware combo embedded in Xbox 720’s core design and possibly ulterior motive for existing. After yesterday’s reports of an arrest resulting from an online MMORPG company tipping off authorities, this type of law enforcement is no longer science fiction and technology like Always-Online paired consoles in your home with bone-scanning 3 Dimensional Stereo Cameras (Kinect 2) that can’t be unplugged present perhaps the largest threat to the American citizen’s privacy in human history.

Hopefully Microsoft announces something Xbox 720 related soon and puts to rest the notion that their console is an evil machine trying to take over their freedom, but it’s times like these I am glad that I invented Always-Offline DRM yesterday for the most incredible 360 game of all time MASS EFFECT which doesn’t need any multiplayer and doesn’t need any new ending because Mac Walters is a genius.

***UPDATE*** Anonymous has apparently stated that the original statement made by alleged Anonymous members was not representative of their group and that they will not be hacking Xbox Live any time soon. Although the group has no official leadership structure supposedly, we are now told that the users sharing the information reported in the unedited original report above are now being discredited by Anonymous themselves.

Xbox Glasses Next After Xbox 720, Kinect 2 is Just the Beginning

The world as you know it is rapidly advancing and Microsoft don’t plan to be beat out by the invention of technology like Google Glasses. On the contrary, the following internal Microsoft image has been leaked and shows the conceptual design of what are essentially virtual reality glasses or “Xbox Glasses” as some are calling them for short. The technology of Xbox 720 and Kinect 2 is also confirmed in this piece of information which seems to analyze the way entertainment is experienced in the living room as well as the way that computer technology is used out in the world.

Whether conceptual brainstorm, or factual blueprint; Microsoft is looking for a way to get a jump-start on future technology by being one of the first major corporations to combine the ideas of cloud computing, the successful integration of consumer devices into society, and the human need for further technological evolution. In any event, Xbox Glasses are being seen as the next logical step in the human biological, technological symbiosis which will be advancing Augmented Reality without the need for scary implants (so far). Xbox 720 Specs and Details Leaked: Likely Digital Only

Sources from inside the Microsoft Xbox world have reportedly leaked the Xbox 720 specifications and details of how it will work.

The source who leaked the information wishes to remain anonymous due to non-disclosure agreements between Microsoft and themselves. This information is not to be released to the public until the Xbox 720’s official announcement.

  • AMD 8 Core x64 1.6Ghz CPU
  • 8GB DDR3 RAM
  • 320GB / 500GB Editions Available At Launch
  • 1TB Hard Drive Sold Seperately
  • No Blu-Ray Support
  • Kinect 2.0 Support
  • Xbox Smartglass Support
  • Xbox 720 Will Be Playable at E3 2013
  • Xbox GOLD vs Xbox 720: Name Not Decided Yet

The fact that no Blu-Ray drive is included strongly suggests and supports the potential for the Xbox 720 to be a digital only system allowing perhaps backwards compatibility with existing Xbox 360 discs but forcing gamers to get all of their games digitally from the Xbox Live Marketplace. The large stock hard drives also hint to this option and the absence of a SKU with no hard drive seems to indicate the games will be downloaded not streamed. This configuration, if confirmed by Microsoft’s April reveal, will also make it very likely that we will see the end of used games for the Xbox console.

***DISCLAIMER: All of this info should be taken strictly as rumor for the time being, and RealGamerNewz.com will keep you in touch with everything next gen as the official Xbox 720 announcement date arrives in April.***

PlayStation 4 / Kinect 2 Another Step Towards Virtual Reality

PlayStation 4 has shown itself to be quite the console for lifelong gamers to experience innovation through. From its instant on philosophy of playing games immediately after purchasing (via cloud streaming while the rest of it downloads to your console) to its ability to buy and stream/download additional content for titles without stopping the gameplay.

The support for discs and used games is still existent in the PlayStation 4’s current plans, and there’s a lot more still being revealed for the system.

Perhaps one of the most talked about specifications of the PlayStation 4 is the Move technology that is built-in to the new DualShock 4 controller. This is something like the Six Axis technology in the PlayStation 3 controller, but on a whole new level. There is also the light on the DualShock 4 that has many talking (both negatively aesthetically for those who find it ugly, to speculatively for those unsure of its purpose).

The light on the DualShock 4 will in fact provide a tracking system for the gamer’s physical location in real life. PlayStation 4’s “PlayStation Eye 4” will be used for gamers playing Move titles on the PS4 but it will also track the gamer against their environment with the DualShock 4.

The ability to know where a gamer will be able to produce virtual reality-like conditions. Beyond what the PlayStation Move has produced us in gaming experiences, it is not completely out of the question to expect DualShock 4 to take us further. It may be true that there are some experiences that are best suited for the Move or a couple of Moves (one in each hand), thus prolonging its life cycle well into the future with PS4. However, there are definitely also experiences that should be played with the DualShock 4 optimally as well.

The currently unrevealed Microsoft Xbox 720’s Kinect 2.0 will use similar technology to Xbox 360’s Kinect and PlayStation 4’s Eye 4 to bring experiences to a new place. Microsoft has said to be working on the concept of Virtual Reality-like games for some time now, experimenting with their 3D Camera before most other game companies were prepared to go mainstream with the technology.

However, it remains to be seen which titles will be developed for the platform, whereas PlayStation 4 has a very healthy roster of upcoming titles right now that can be enhanced with this functionality.
