Despite stating on multiple occasions that they had no plans of releasing an Xbox One SKU without the Kinect, Microsoft has announced today, that a Kinect-less version will drop on June 9. It will cost $399, the same price as Sony’s PlayStation 4.
MS has also revealed that both Games with Gold and Deals with Gold promotions will be available in June for its next-gen console, allowing owners with a Gold membership to chance to get free games as well as special discounts.
Lastly it has been confirmed that many apps and services such as Netflix, Youtube and Hulu Plus will no longer require a Gold membership in order to access them.
Despite deciding to release Xbox with the Kinect bundled in Microsoft has made it clear that they are not giving up on it.
“To be clear, as we introduce this new Xbox One console option, Kinect remains an important part of our vision. Many of you are using Kinect for Xbox One every day. In fact, more than 80 percent of you are actively using Kinect, with an average of 120 voice commands per month on each console. Some of the most popular voice commands include “Xbox On,” “Xbox Broadcast” and “Xbox Record That.” We will continue to offer a premium Xbox One with Kinect bundle to deliver voice and gesture controls, biometric sign-in, instant personalization, instant scanning of QR codes, and enhanced features only available with Kinect in games such as “Kinect Sports Rivals,” “Just Dance 2014,” “Project Spark” and more. “
The Kinect will also be made available to purchase separately in the fall, for those who decide to get one later.
