Leaked: New3DS Gets Its Release Date, Exactly One Month From Today

New3DS Release Date

As the Nintendo 3DS becomes discontinued, and the 3DS XL drops in price, a new leak has surfaced giving the exact release date of the New3DS and New3DS XL AKA New Nintendo 3DS XL which will “open a new world of gaming” according to Nintendo featuring extra buttons, face tracking 3D, a built-in Amiibo reader, C stick analog on the right side, and a better spec of components including a beefed up processor.

It is currently being speculated that Nintendo may be ready to introduce Gameboy Advance and Super Nintendo games to the Virtual Console specifically for this New3DS but that is just speculation at this point and has not been announced by Nintendo. There will however be exclusive games for the console.

Many Nintendo 3DS games scheduled for release will still work on the existing 3DS and 3DS XL (as well as 2DS models) but in theory this will not be the case over time as the platform is shifted to the New3DS primarily. Many people are looking into advanced trade-up offers from retail stores or online websites, or even ebaying their equipment now. Me personally, I am going to keep my 3DS XL and collection of games for it and invest in building a totally separate one for the New3DS. I look forward to seeing Nintendo announce a lot more for the platform, but understandably so they appear to be focusing on rolling out Wii U and 3DS games first and foremost this year.

Early adopters will likely be already expecting most of the New3DS games to be announced towards the end of the year and top of next year so 3DS has more time to shine this year. But the eShop’s indie scene should give way to a great selection of games like Shovel Knight to hold them over until the blockbusters start hitting.

Editor’s Notes:

  • North America Release Date: February 13, 2015

  • More Information is expected on tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct Livestream at 9 AM EST USA (6 AM PST USA / 2 PM UK Time)

Nintendo Discontinues 3DS in Favor of Upcoming #New3DS , Wildly Popular 3DS XL , and Budget Model 2DS

nintendo-3ds-stylus

Reports that have since been confirmed by Gamestop reps have come in that retailers are no longer listing stock for brand new models of the traditional Nintendo 3DS. These are well known to many YouTubers as the easiest 3DS handheld systems to get modded with built-in capture devices for creating great gameplay videos and livestreams. Now, that type of setup will be even more rare it seems, at least for the time being. Nintendo will not be updating stock with further shipments of the original 3DS model to retailers and instead will focus on rolling out the New3DS as well as selling off the remaining 3DS XL units while they are still popular, keeping 2DS alive for now so anybody low on cash can still jump into this great platform’s fun library. Those who demand a 3DS before this is all said and done, there is always the used market – better get online and buy one before this news spreads far and wide since Nintendo hardware doesn’t seem to drop in value too much these days.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy – Curtain Call 3DS Review

Final Fantasy Curtain Call RealGamerNewz Review

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy is a fairly new series that emerged from Square Enix in 2012 for 3DS and later iOS platforms. Essentially, when boiled down to its most fundamental elements Theatrhythm Final Fantasy is often compared to Rock Band or Guitar Hero for the Final Fantasy universe of music. Curtain Call is second installment and a thank you from SE to the gaming community at large for supporting the first Theatrhythm Final Fantasy project on the Nintendo 3DS prior to this one. The title seems to have been a success with critics taking favor and sales seemingly decent enough. Its success can be easily attributed to the nostalgia and emotional attachment that millions of gamers around the world share for the musical arrangements of the various Final Fantasy video game soundtracks showcased in Curtain Call. If you never picked up the original, you can also view the movies it contained during EMS stages in Curtain Call’s Museum: Theater section.

My favorite songs to play in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy – Curtain Call are definitely the Main Theme on FF1, FF2, and a few others (it’s great to hear that familiar melody), the Final Fantasy VI and VII soundtracks are also personal favorites (I wish they put more tracks from those games). Using my Turtle Beach 3DS XL headphones the quality of the music for a dedicated gaming handheld device is incredible. Most of the songs were composed so well for the classic Final Fantasy series, that listening to them causes one to drift off to another place mentally and spiritually. Very moving musician work indeed makes for an engaging rhythm genre gem.

The ability to play music when you just want to hear it instead of being restricted to gameplay only is a great additional feature to Curtain Call that fans can enjoy. The soundtrack set of Curtain Call has everything to offer for gamers regardless if they’ve played the Final Fantasy series or not. Everything from full symphony music to retro chip-tunes, legit 8 bit stuff, and even modern soundtrack elements from newer titles.

Everything in Curtain Call is unlockable by playing the game. This isn’t one of those, spend money and get surprised by endless DLC later – which I appreciate since this Review is out of my own pocket. The many collectibles in the game are easily organized into a few key sections including CollectaCards and Card Binder: Collection (Normal, Rare, Premium) different designs to each for use in the Model Viewer, touch a card and examine in-game models from your Collection once you get the CollectaCard for that character (such as Cloud Strife Chibi). This game even features Play Records and Trophies for the really serious perfectionists out there.

Graphics / Art Direction in the game are above standard for the Nintendo 3DS as a platform overall, showing that this is a game Square Enix teams really care about. Great work to the development team who seem to have mastered the 3D effect for players’ eyes as well even in a lit setting. (3DS XL used in testing this, your device may not get same result depending on the amount of glare and the model of Nintendo device being used)

Final Verdict:

Curtain Call brings back the great concept that is Theatrhythm Final Fantasy on Nintendo 3DS. Essentially waving the stylus around as if you’re the composer to some of Role Playing Games’ most inspirational tracks is bad-ass. If you’re a fan of the series, this is a must have for your collection. This packaging in particular sequels the original quite well and provides plenty of content to justify the purchase. As always, if you absolutely hate all rhythm games – you might not like this one either. But if you’re open to what awaits behind the curtain, take a spin with this 3DS Exclusive this holiday season. It should be around at a decent price by now as it released on September 16th, 2014 in the United States and September 19th, 2014 in Europe after the initial release which occurred in Japan on April 24, 2014. Although this is an almost perfect release, there’s still some improvements that players can expect in future installments of the series – presumably compatible with New3DS hardware. There is also a limited edition Nintendo 3DS XL for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call available only in Japan.

RUMOR: Nintendo’s Next Portable System, “New3DS” Could Be Region-Free (Import-Friendly)

Nintendo New3DS

***UPDATE: Nintendo has confirmed that the New3DS will NOT be Region-Free and in fact will have the same Region-Lock technology as the Nintendo 3DS, disappointingly. The original unedited rumor follows below:

Nintendo recently revealed to the world that they will be releasing a brand new Nintendo 3DS called “New3DS” that has more RAM, a better CPU (Processor), more trigger buttons, a directional right analog nub, and exclusive game “Xenoblade Chronicles for New 3DS” coming alongside it this October in Japan but not until 2015 in North America. There will be a large LL (XL) version as well as a normal sized one both of which are bigger than 3DS and 3DS XL respectively by a small margin. New3DS also comes with a better 3D viewing screen according to Nintendo which will allow the display of higher resolution graphics and more wide viewing area for the 3D effect gamers on Nintendo handhelds currently enjoy.

A new Rumor has arisen, regarding the fact that New3DS could be the gateway to traveller’s getting the best of both worlds. Those who travel between the Americas, Europe, Japan, Australia, etc. on business may want to be able to purchase games on the go that work in their unit. Even more so, Import-Friendly gamers may want to pay the extra fees and shipping to get a game that only came out in Japan. Nintendo might be allowing a Region-Free setup for New3DS according to whisperings on Wall Street. If this turns out to be true, any New3DS game from any country could be played in a New3DS of any origin. Games and Handhelds would be universal for this transitional-gen of Nintendo New 3DS.
