IndieSpotlight: Outpost Zero Hands-On Impressions

Outpost Zero is a multi-player survival game that is currently in early access on steam. This game has some of the same qualities as most survival games out there, but also has its own original characteristics. The basics are all here; such as base building, a character leveling system, mining, and defending your home bases from certain monsters and enemies around the map. Some of the things that make this game original were that certain monsters appear on the map for you or your friends to slay and earn certain items in-game. World events also bring interest in the game such as acid rain or meteor showers that could damage you or your base and in certain situations your armor.

The base building mechanics in the game are very fluid and easy to understand. The crafting menu doesn’t provide a lot of building types, but that is understandable for an early access version. Making bases can be unique but have a lot of the same turn-outs on bases and take a little imagination. It’s much more bearable to build more bases instead of just one massive one. Colonies are unique in their own way and involve teaming up with friends to take on the wasteland. In my opinion this is a better player experience for players of this game to focus on.

The deeper you go in this game, the harder the difficulty; such as having to slay more ferocious creatures and maneuver through rougher and rougher terrain. Some of the materials in the game appear to be in nodes with a small amount of health to each node meaning it’s usually harder to find the more rare materials, having to fight off many things to just get them. This can lead to quite the hassle at times in regard to getting materials together to build with.

Pre-E3 2018: Generation Zero announced for 2019 by Avalanche Studios

Set in Sweden during the 1980s, a new co-op focused, open world game for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC has been given the formal announcement treatment after light reporting on it took place earlier this year. Avalanche Studios is working on RAGE 2 for Bethesda and is well known for being the development studio behind Just Cause which is published by Square Enix. This time around, Avalanche will publish their own game by themselves. The Apex engine from the Just Cause titles belongs to Avalanche, and will be used for the making of this game which will release in 2019.

Pre-E3 2018: Days Gone release date confirmed by Sony w/ new gameplay trailer

Days Gone is the first original project from SIE Bend (AKA Sony Bend), a development studio well known for titles like Uncharted: Golden Abyss on PlayStation Vita. The company had been working on 4 more Vita titles including an inFamous spin-off when Sony pulled the plug. This led to a great opportunity though, for Sony Bend to show off what they’ve learned over the years by developing an open world, survival sandbox game with zombies.

Days Gone has said to be similar in some ways to State of Decay but with a potentially more narrow and polished scope. The focus of a cinematic atmosphere and well refined gameplay are staples of Days Gone that players will expect to be showcased at this year’s Sony E3 in which a deep dive strategy with four major games will be in the spotlight. Meanwhile, the zombie survival horror genre presumably being taken over by The Last of Us Part Two this winter (if release date predictions come true at E3).

Pre-E3 2018: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Revealed by Ubisoft

The next entry has been revealed for the Assassin’s Creed series. After being leaked and rumored for a day, Ubisoft has confirmed the new project set in Greece during a time period shortly after the events of Origins. We will find out more at E3 next week, but for now we are sure that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is real and even got a little sneak peak in the form of a reveal / teaser trailer debuted in full 4K graphical quality.

State of Decay 2 Review

State of Decay 2 is the sequel to the 2013 survival horror game State of Decay which was generally well received by critics, and was a game I thoroughly enjoyed as well. Going into this game I was expecting more of the same zombie-killing and strategic gameplay from its predecessor. Well, this game delivers that, but really not much else. That isn’t totally a bad thing though because it still does those things right. A lot of heart and soul has been poured into State of Decay 2 by development house Undead Labs, and it shows.

CD Projekt Red Details The Witcher III’s New Game Plus DLC Features

the-witcher-3-new-game-plus-details-450x270

Yesterday saw the blockbuster announcement, about New Game Plus being the last of the Witcher III‘s free DLCs. Obviously many fans had questions, so community manager Marcin Momot took to the official forums to answer them. Players can expect stronger enemies, the ability to play NG+ on any difficulty and more.

Momot’s response on NG+ features:

  • Enemies will be stronger obviously.
  • What carries over? Player experience (if you’re below level 30 when finishing the vanilla game, you will be bumped to level 30 for the start of NG+), items (excluding: quest items, books & letters, Gwent cards, usable items, trophies) and alchemy recipes.
  • When starting New Game Plus you can select any difficulty level.
  • You can obtain the Death Match achievement when playing the NG+ mode.
  • What’s the starting level of the character when beginning NG+? The same that you had when finishing the game, if above 30, otherwise you start at 30. You also get a free Clearing Potion at the start so you can reset your skills and try a different build.

CD hasn’t provided a release date of DLC, so stay tuned.

Tom Clancy’s The Division Delayed until 2016

td

The Division has been delayed, and will now see a 2016 release, Ubisoft has announced today. Players looking to get their hands on the open world third-person shooter RPG, will have to wait until the first quarter of next year. Basically the game should launch anytime between March and June 2016.

The reason for the delay, boils down to the game’s many developers wanting to deliver an experience that not only meets the player’s expectations, but theirs as well.

“We have decided to release the game on Xbox One, PS4 and PC during the first quarter of calendar year 2016.

All of us at Massive, Reflections, Red Storm Entertainment and Ubisoft Annecy want to ensure the game not only meets our high expectations but also those of our fans and players alike. We are proud of what we have achieved so far and can’t wait to show you more next month at E3!”

While the delay may come as disappointing news to some, it is best to remember that it can result in a better experience once it is released. You can expect more details at this year’s E3.

Thoughts on the delay? Let your voices be heard in the comments below.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor Releasing A Week Early

Middle-Earth-Shadow-of-Mordor

Once again the month of October just got a little less crowded as Warner Bros. has announced today that the release date has been pushed forward. Monolith Production’s Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor will now launch on September 30 in North America for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, with a Worldwide PC release on Oct 2.

Though it was originally scheduled for an October 7th release, the Publisher stated the reason for the push was due to “fan excitement”. I’m sure the fans will be even more excited with this bit of news.

Thank you Jesus (Fellow RGN writer, not the son of God) for catching this awesome piece of news.

The Last of Us, Uncharted and Batman Arkham Voice Actors Lend their Talents in ‘Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor’

Middle-earth-Shadow-of-Mordor-7

Warner Bros. Interactive has announced the voice cast for their upcoming open world action-adventure title, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor. It’s actually a pretty high profile list consisting of some of the industries top voice over talent including Nolan North and Troy (I’m the voice of everything) Baker. The full list of confirmed actors, their roles and previous work is below.

  • Troy Baker – Talion (The Last of Us, Batman: Arkham Origins, BioShock Infinite, Saints Row 4)
  • Nolan North - Black Hand (Uncharted series, The Last of Us, Batman: Arkham City, Spec Ops: The Line)
  • Alastair Duncan – Wraith (Mass Effect series, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception)
  • Laura Bailey - Ioreth (Halo 4, Batman: Arkham Origins, The Last of Us)
  • Liam O’Brien - Gollum (Infamous: Second Son, Darksiders, The Last of Us)

The Publisher has also revealed the music composer for ‘Shadow of Mordor’ to be Garry Schyman. Schyman’s credits include work in films and multiple video games including ‘Dante’s Inferno’ and ‘Bioshock Infinite’ for which he won awards from the British Academy of Film and Television and the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences for the latter.

I for one think its safe to say that Shadow of Mordor won’t disappoint where’s voice work and the musical score is concerned. I’m personally a fan of these VAs and I’m most looking forward to Liam O’Brien’s take on Gollum, played by Andy Serkis in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor launches on October 7 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.

Watch Dogs Breaks Pre-order Records

watch_dogs_1

Watch Dogs is now Ubisoft’s most pre-ordered new IP in its history, according to an official post on the company’s blog. It is also the publisher’s second highest pre-ordered game of all time, and the most pre-ordered new IP in the entire industry this year thus far. Ubisoft’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Tony Key had this to say:

“These strong pre-orders are a clear indication of players’ anticipation and excitement for Watch Dogs. “The teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that players will enjoy a top quality game with enormous scope, and we can’t wait to get the game into their hands”

1000x1000

Watch Dogs Dedsec Edition; one of the many special editions(9 in total) available for pre-order.

“There is massive buzz in all of our stores around Watch Dogs,” explains Bob Puzon, Senior Vice President of Merchandising at GameStop. “Based on the current level of customer pre-orders we have received, Watch Dogs is the highest pre-ordered next-gen title to date and most pre-ordered new IP of the year.”

The blog also mentions that Watch Dogs has gone “gold”, which basically means that the game is on track for its May 27th release for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The Wii U version is still being worked on and is set for a later release sometime this year.
