When will PlayStation 5 release? Games, specs, backward / forward compatibility?

That’s a good question. No one knows for sure, but there is evidence to suggest that next year Sony will formally announce and begin to reveal their next-generation home video games console. One of the hot topics of debate is whether that system is coming out too soon. Most gamers seem to be split on the issue, with one side claiming that they just bought a PS4 and wish to see it supported for a long time. The other side feels that the current generation has had its spotlight long enough and they’re ready for new technology to take the industry further. However, Sony may have found a way to satisfy both camps in a way that gaming has never seen before in the console space, taking a page out of PC Gaming’s playbook. This week’s interesting PlayStation 5 rumors are fake, but based on reality

The internet is abuzz today with a new set of specs, release date information, and features rumored for the PlayStation 5. The supposed leak came in the form of a slideshow which is highly suspicious. Although it is likely that the slides circulating in the gaming community right now are fake, there are some points of interest which seem to be based on real leaks currently taking place.

The unfortunate blending of false and true information done by online broadcasters looking to capitalize on views makes it impossible for us to know what to believe for sure. It appears that either a hoax agent has created these slides which appear to combine predictions from fans, vague chatter among devs, evidence from AMD’s actions, and information allegedly leaked by high priced insider paid subscription websites.

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Project Scarlet could use Blu-ray Rev 2 or BDXL

Current Blu-ray drives found in PlayStation 4, Xbox, and past systems like PS3 are unable to read data off the disc fast enough for gamers to play without first installing their games. This has been an issue now for 12 years and likely won’t be solved anytime soon. However, next-generation game consoles like PlayStation 5 and the currently code-named Xbox Project Scarlet could finally bring a change to the disc drive frontier of modern video games.
