New Rise of the Tomb Raider Gameplay Surfaces

Rise-of-The-Tomb-Raider

Crystal Dynamics has dropped a brand new gameplay video for their Tomb Raider sequel. The video picks up where the E3 gameplay left off and we find Lara trekking through the snowy wilderness of Siberia.

Lara has new ways of dispatching bad guys, from stealthy bow kills involving poison arrows, to the ever popular “death from above” stealth kill. The crafting system introduced in the 2013 reboot makes a return as we see Lara craft herself the aforementioned poison arrows. Ms Croft doesn’t just have to contend with humans in the wild but highly dangerous animals as well, including a very big, very pissed off Bear.

How will Lara overcome this ferocious beasts? You’ll have to watch to find out.

Rise of the Tomb Raider launches on November 10, 2015 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It is a timed exclusive.

Tomb Raider: The Ten Thousand Immortals Review

TR Immortals

Tomb Raider: The Ten Thousand Immortals by bestselling British novelist and comic book writer, Dan Abnett and Nik Vincent, is a novel continuing Lara Croft’s adventure and takes place between the events on Yamatai in the Tomb Raider reboot and the next to be released game title. This tale is considered cannon and acknowledge as such by developer Crystal Dynamics.

The story starts off with Lara being thrown into a panic attack by the startling and loud backfire of a neighbor’s car engine. As she takes to the streets of London, for a therapeutic walk to soothe her nerves, she receives a call informing her that Sam (best friend, roommate and designated damsel in distress), has been admitted into a hospital. Upon her arrival, Lara discovers her friend is in a coma suspected to be induced by a drug overdose.  However, having both recently survived supernatural events, Lara has her own suspicions about the cause of Sam’s condition. Therein, begins the quest to find an artifact of legend with healing capabilities able to restore her friend to health.

Lara travels to several locations around Europe in search of information and leads, meeting with professors, antique collectors and shady business men with auras of danger. In her pursuit of the relic, she finds there are others who would kill without hesitation to gain possession of it and Lara must fight for her life in order to save Sam’s. Savvy as she is, Lara is able to gain the trust and employ the help of hastily made acquaintances, using their skills and knowledge to advance her progress or escape danger as necessary.

TR

Story line aside, the delivery left more to be desired. Everything was over simplified, there were no puzzles or need for in depth thinking, answers were basically thrown at her and the vocabulary and descriptions were basic. The action scenes were fun, but the majority of the down time was spent giving trivial descriptions of Lara navigating city streets and public transportation; if only to display her observation skills and paranoia, to then watch them fail her miserably on more than one occasion. Having seen and experienced the trials of Yamatai alongside reboot Lara, there are certain things she should definitely be able to handle. Not so, in this novel. It’s as if she’s starting over in skill level. Retaining the memory of her previous adventure, but none of the character development.

Final Verdict:

I will not claim to not have enjoyed the book at all, but my expectations for a Tomb Raider title were not met and often times I found myself bored and actually making an effort to continue reading. I would recommend this novel to a younger audience, not formally acquainted to classic Lara or reboot Lara for that matter. Large font, basic vocabulary and simple writing earned this novel a 7.2 rating.

Gamescom 2014: Rise of the Tomb Raider Is An Xbox One Exclusive, Here’s Why

Rise-of-the-Tomb-Raider

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming sequel to their 2013 reboot will be available exclusively on Microsoft’s new gen console. The bombshell announcement was made during Ms’ press briefing at Gamescom 2014. Darrell Gallagher took to the game’s tumblr account to address the situation.

“we’ve just announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider, coming Holiday 2015, is exclusively on Xbox. We consider all of you to be the lifeblood of Tomb Raider and the work we do at Crystal. I’d like to give you some insight into this decision, and why we feel this is the very best thing for the Tomb Raider sequel we’re creating at the studio,” said Gallagher.

The post states that 2013’s Tomb Raider was a success “due in large part to your continued support” (Meaning PS3, 360 and PC owners).

“Our goal has always been to deliver something truly special with Rise of the Tomb Raider. Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past – we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.”

Which is another way of saying Microsoft threw a lot of cash their way. According to Gallagher, PS and PC fans need not worry about:

“This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.”

Yes, at least you have the digital only title that doesn’t take place in the same story cannon and the remastered version of the 2013 title that most Tomb Raider fans may have already purchased. But hey if you want to continue Lara Croft’s adventures you can always pick up the new novel coming this fall.

There is a chance that it is a timed exclusive, the wording used in Geoff Kneighley’s tweet suggests so.

Rise of the Tomb Raider May Also See a PS3 and Xbox 360 Release

rise-of-the-tomb-raider-e3-2014-trailer-screenshot-camilla-luddington

It seems that Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ Rise of the Tomb Raider may be heading to last gen platforms as well and new gen.

According to a listing on Amazon, the game is available for pre-order on PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, PC and Xbox One.

The sequel to the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot was announced just last week, during Microsoft’s E3 conference. Details on the game are scarce but MS released a tidbit:

“In the next chapter of her journey, Lara must use her survival skills and wits, learn to trust new friends, and ultimately accept her destiny as the Tomb Raider,” Microsoft said. “Featuring epic, high-octane action moments, Rise of the Tomb Raider will take gamers to multiple locations around the world filled with exploration spaces that are some of the most beautifully hostile places on earth. In addition, after hearing the cry from fans loud and clear, the game will put the tombs back into “Tomb Raider” all in the franchise’s gritty Survival-Action style”

While many may be upset at the thought of the game being available on last gen consoles (Concerns are legitimate), one must consider that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 still has a much larger install base than the PS4 and Xbox One. Square Enix will want to make as much as possibl… I don’t really need to explain how business works do I? Anyway, in case you missed it check out the awesome announcement trailer for Rise of the Tomb Raider (That title though) below.

E3 2014: Rise of the Tomb Raider announced for 2015 Release with Details

Rise-of-the-Tomb-Raider

Crystal Dynamics has announced ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ for a Holiday 2015 release.

The world premiere trailer was dropped during Microsoft’s E3 conference (Don’t worry PS fans it isn’t an exclusive). In the trailer we see protagonist Lara Croft in therapy, no doubt suffering from PTSD due to the events of that took place in 2013’s Tomb Raider. Of course it wouldn’t be a TR trailer without cave exploration and the killing of bad guys. Fans will be glad to know that Lara’s signature bow makes a return allowing for more satisfying stealth kills.
