It has come to our attention that breaking reports detail the increase in computer viruses, hacks, and identity fraud worldwide is indeed linked with Always-Online DRM being used by some game companies to force players to be online and connected to game servers otherwise access is refused to their game.
The recent example of SimCity brings an obvious problem as many players are now getting their cities destroyed and their computers taken over by hackers. The increasing number of titles that require an Always-Online DRM have become the target of hackers for a dual-purpose.
The original purpose will likely be to get the game companies to see the length people are willing to go to avoid the Always-Online DRM, and the extended purpose that will undoubtedly cause the hacking to continue is the profiting of bank fraud operations and other identity theft operations being taken out upon unsuspecting gamers that are now forced to be vulnerable the entire time they are playing their games of choice as well as subject to the vulnerabilities of the game servers themselves.
