Mega Ran & K-Murdock : #ForeverFamicom 5th Year Anniversary USA Tour & Behind The Scenes Commentary

Celebrating 5 years of Gamer Hip Hop, a unique blend known to some as Nerdcore, GamerHop, ChipHop, but to Mega Ran and K-Murdock it’s a way of life, the Forever Famicom Tour spans the United States (exact dates etc. below, scroll down) and marks the latest in a steady string of tours centered around what is likely the most recognized video-game inspired music act out.

Mega Ran and K-Murdock put together Forever Famicom with the love of video-games as a centerpiece theme and as gaming is a way of life for so many millions of different people worldwide, this led to a universal soundtrack that is mostly about Mega Ran’s life but can be related to by many listeners. Production was crafted in such a way that K-Murdock has managed to mix retro with modern sound creating something completely new and different that is progressively changing and morphing throughout the track.

>> The resulting journey is a ride of audio-induced nostalgia called FOREVER FAMICOM

So many people like Forever Famicom that it has been performed live many times, Forever Famicom DLC was released with instrumentals including never-before-used exclusives to the original album and brand new tracks, then later more tracks were featured in Forever Famicom DLC 2, and DLC 3. The Forever Famicom 5th Anniversary Tour will cover NYC, Boston, STL, Detroit, Chicago, and more. Sammus – Another M: Album Review

sammus rgb

Sammus is a New York Nerdcore FemCee that has been making the rounds in the geek community and with her new project “Another M” she taking her place alongside artist such as MegaRan, MC Frontalot, HipHopGamer, K-Murdock and others. Sammus’ moniker is an ode to Sammus Aran who is the lead character in the Nintendo video game franchise Metroid and “Another M” is a play on “Metroid: The Other M” a game on the Nintendo Wii Console. Sammus tells her story while telling the story of her video game counterpart and does so with magnificent flows, song selection and storying telling. The songs on “Another M” kick off with the original music from the Metroid games and then transitions straight into the beat in which Sammus’ spits on, sometimes with little game esque intros where Sammus narrates as scene from the game or creates her Metroid inspired skit.

Sammus Kicks things off with Cybernetic Armor telling the story of the femme fatale bounty hunter and her relationship with her long lost parents. The song is very deep and emotional and listeners may even think she shares similar circumstances with the amount of emotion she brings to the track. Mae Jemison is more of an inspirational track referencing the real life Doctor who was the first African American woman to go to space and is more an inspirational track for the ladies to listen to but still smooth for all to enjoy. The album then gets back its Metroid theme on Brinstar which talks about what she sees when playing through the area in the Metroid Games. This song was ok but it didn’t have the spark the first two tracks did as well as the message but its kind of cool to see the emotions a female gamer sees playing a female gaming character.

Disc_Templates

Power Ups, the fourth song on this EP, is more of a party type track where Sammus spits about her VG counterparts power ups and suit upgrades thru the game as well as a cold bar that reference to the Morph Ball which Sammus is in the games used to get around certain areas in the game as well as to attack enemies with its bombs. “Crown” our next track is another party track aimed for the ladies in which Sammus flexes confidently while making metaphors to Sammus defeat of Mother Brain. The song has killer production and the breakbeats are amazing but this is another one aimed square at the ladies and can go nicely after Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” at a dance party.

The next track Smash Bruhs shows Sammus taking aim at her competition and this is a hard hitting track akin to 50 Cent’s “I’ll Whip Ya Head” where we hear a much more angrier and aggressive Sammus than we have heard on this entire project. I think some people who like this track, some people who hate it and some who think its out of place on this project iust do to the volatile nature of the lyrics. Sammus ends the album with “That Feeling (Beating The Game)” where she rhymes about an event that all gamers have came to at some point or another as well as the ending her take on the story of Metroid. Sammus Aran even though she is a female character doesn’t have to be sexy or sultry to be loved and respected by gamers and Sammus the rapper does the same in her music.

Sammus is a dope female lyricist as well as a dope producer, she is the epitome of what all artist should be. This album even though it may be rough around the edges for some listeners is still one of the best I’ve heard this year and that aren’t that many ladies in the music industry that impress me as of late.” Another M” is an album that requires more than one playthrough because of how deep the message is and how she is able to switch between the story of Metroid’s heroine and her own so fluidly as well as all the easter eggs and lore she drops on each track. If you love Video Games and Hip-Hop Sammus is the full package and you can stream it below but be sure to go support her by buying this LP on iTunes or Bandcamp.

Sammus - ANOTHER M - Back Cover

Final Verdict:

Sammus “Another M” is a solid album that has amazing songs comprised of great lyricism, and quality production that stays true to the both the artist and the video game that she is inspired by. There are certain songs that may not jive with everyone or reach everyone but still Sammus shines on every song and is both a true gamer and Emcee through and through.

AN[OTHER M]: A Metroid Inspired EP Nearly Reaches Goal In 4 Days [Video Game Hip Hop Music]

Metroid Another M Hip Hop Music

Hip Hop performer and producer Sammus, who you may remember played a hand in the creation of MegaRan’s Castlevania: The Nocturnal Cantata, is making a video game-inspired hip hop album called AN[OTHER] M which will see the artist taking the role of Sammus over high quality beats to innovate and immerse the hip hop industry in a new flavor of sound. Take a look at the video below and visit the Kickstarter Here which has already come close to reaching its goal in the short few days it’s been online.

Castlevania: The Nocturnal Cantata Review

Castlevania- The Nocturnal Cantata by MegaRan and Sammus

Castlevania: The Nocturnal Cantata is an incredible experience from start to finish. Similar to the video games, this full fledged hip hop album feels like a journey inside the inner minds of Dracula, Alucard, the Belmonts, Maria, and by the time you’re done listening you’ve not only spent a day in the universe of Castlevania but grown a greater understanding for the deep themes created within one of gaming’s most well-known franchises of all time.

Tracks ‘Aria of the Bloodline’ and ‘100 Years’ provide the introduction and set the stage for the experience that is The Nocturnal Cantata. Each track shows the two different sides of the vampire bloodline that rampages against mankind. As many of you probably remember from Symphony of the Night, Alucard is faced with the difficulty of stopping his own father Dracula from pursuing the destruction of mankind and torturing of all human souls in revenge for what happened to his wife who was burned at the stake for being accused of witchcraft. Dracula of course rises every 100 years, and is ready to get his hands dirty each time resuming his place as dark lord.

MegaRan’s raw talent and obsessive polish paired with incredible production, mainly by Sammus, are the main reasons why Castlevania: The Nocturnal Cantata flow so well. The Ranger makes his first appearance on this album with a slightly monotone chorus on ‘Richter’ but makes up for it with slick verses that have a lot to say and delivery that is on point solid, especially on the later jam ‘Chasing Fate’. MegaRan’s interludes and Finale personify Alucard even further completely rounding out this experience. Sammus out-does herself with the features on ‘Young Girl’ and ‘Sweet Sorrow’ which feel like the most impressive tracks on the album by far. The chemistry between Sammus as Maria Renard and MegaRan as Alucard allow for total immersion. Every lyric selected rings true to the hip hop format as well as the Castlevania franchise.

I’ll have to admit, when I first heard MegaRan was working on a Castlevania album next I worried about how interesting the game would sound as a music piece. Those doubts have been crushed and now I feel foolish for ever doubting MegaRan and the crew he’s assembled on this project. Mastering is done by K-Murdock for Neosonic Productions with mixing by Brian Gigerich @ Hand Krafted Studios and leaves Castlevania: The Nocturnal Cantata sounding as crisp and clear as n multi-million dollar production.

Thanks to the complexity of the Castlevania: Symphony of the Night video game MegaRan, Sammus, and The Ranger managed to present one of the most compelling hip hop albums released this year. ‘Sweet Sorrow’ is the final culmination of these themes and sounds and wraps The Nocturnal Cantata into a complete package nicely. MegaRan even gave us an awesome bonus track ‘Dance of Pales (No Sleep)’ which helps give us another glimpse into the life of the teacher turned rapper and encourages a positive outlook with a dedicated grind to achieve anything you want in life.

Final Verdict: If you’re a gamer, or just enjoy storytelling hip hop with a message, meaningful and professionally crafted flows, and ridiculously good production, mixing, and mastering then you NEED to listen to Castlevania: The Nocturnal Cantata now. This album receives a 9 out of 10 from RealGamerNewz and although this is our first music review, rest assured it will not be our last.

Overall Score: 9/10
