Best of Gamescom 2018

As we previously reported, NVIDIA stole the show at this year’s Gamescom 2018 with its next-generation PC Gaming graphics card lineup introducing Real-time Ray Tracing to the industry in what will arguably change the visual standard for decades to come. You can read more about that, watch the clips, and full public briefing provided in our NVIDIA RTX Press Conference WrapUp.

In terms of actual game announcements, this year was a little dry. We suspect a behind-the-scenes focus on the next-generation gaming consoles currently known as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Project Scarlet (names may change closer to their release) have something to do with the lack of major AAA showings. That being said, there was still plenty of closer looks at upcoming titles to get excited about and we’ve decided to cover most of it at once here in this piece.

Dark Chronicle Trademark Stirs Dark Cloud 3 Speculation

Dark Cloud

Sony has become the source of speculation this morning as a web bot in charge of keeping tabs on the latest trademark filings has unearthed a trademark filed by Sony for the name “Dark Cloud” in Japanese which comes across as “Dark Chronicle” when put into English.

This trademark filing has many speculating that a Dark Cloud 3 video game could be in production or at least in the early stages of planning. This is the latest in a string of seemingly isolated incidents which could lead to a larger picture showing Sony prepared to announce a multitude of titles at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2014 coming up this June, seeing that recently Sony Trademarks Potentially Name Two New Titles.

Sony reps have also mentioned time and time again the existence of a list of fan favorites and high-demand requests from the gaming community. This dream wish list of gamers is meant for Sony to identify high priority projects and develop as many dream games as possible for the PlayStation platforms (particularly the PS4). Among these titles includes Shenmue 3 (which might actually be happening). What games would you like to see Sony put together from your dream wish list?

Shenmue 3 “The Story Goes On…”; A Real Chance For Shenmue 3’s Production Emerges

Shenmue 3 PS4

That’s what the cliffhanger ending of Shenmue 2 said anyways, so what happened? What’s the rest of the story?

It looks like we might actually get to find out, as there may very well be a Shenmue 3 in the works, but it needs your help.

On Tuesday, December 3rd there’s going to be a Tweetathon (possibly the most important one for this game yet), using the established hashtag #GiveYuTheShenmueLicense. The point of this is to let them know just how badly this sequel is wanted, so let your voice be heard. Sega still owns the Shenmue license, but Yu Suzuki has said that he can obtain the license back, and when asked if he would consider working with a Western publisher if they would fund Shenmue 3, Yu replied “If we’re given the freedom to make what we want, it doesn’t matter where the company is from. I would take my family and move to the states.”

Besides all of this, there has been a lot of talk, whispers, and hopeful thinking. Especially after Suzuki was photographed at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco alongside Mark Cerny, the lead architect of the PS4. According to the general manager of the GDC Meggan Scavio, who tweeted the picture, they were “talking strategy for Shenmue III. For real guys.” This was never officially confirmed or denied, but they were definitely talking about something.

Gio Corsi – head of Sony’s new Third Party Productions team – asked gamers to let him know which third party games they’d like to see on Sony platforms and Adam Boyes said that this was one of the most requested games amongst the ten thousand tweets and forum posts that they’d received. They had also previously stated that  they would first pursue the most requested games, so that definitely also generated a lot of hype for this sequel as well, especially knowing that Sega went on record in a 2010 issue of Famitsu saying that they would trade exclusivity for Shenmue funding.

Yu Suzuki holds this series very dear to his heart and I know a lot of fans do as well. It seems like we might genuinely have a chance of getting some closure on this series and some clarity as to what happens next in it after the cliffhanger ending of the second game. So Tuesday, December 3rd remember to hop on Twitter and use the hash tag #GiveYuTheShenmueLicense. Personally, I’d say to use directly on Adam Boyes and Shuhei Yoshida twitter feeds because they always seem to listen and realistically Sony is probably the best chance this series has for a rival right now. There are already over a hundred thousand news feeds on Twitter that are guaranteed to receive a message from Shenmue supporters this Tuesday, and that’s before re-tweeting even begins, so blow ’em up, let your voices be heard!

Atlus Has Permission From SEGA To Use Their IP Such As Phantasy Star

Atlus SEGA Shenmue Phantasy Star IP

SEGA has announced that they will allow recently acquired developer Atlus to use classic SEGA intellectual properties (including games like Phantasy Star or Shenmnue. The following quote comes from the corp responsible for the late, great Dreamcast console many gamers look back upon fondly:

“While we have no intention of forcing this, we’d definitely love to have them utilize any of Sega’s dormant IPs.”

RealGamerNewz.com will soon be launching a few articles covering the entire Shenmue situation, but for now we’d like to say that Phantasy Star seems like the most likely candidate for Atlus if they did decide to grab up an Old IP to work on. This might never occur if Atlus decides not to walk where angels don’t dare tread, but the possibilities are endless and speculation will run rampant from here on  out.

Rumor: SEGA to Announce Sony Exclusive Next Thursday in Japan

It turns out based on new information from a Japanese source the reveal of SEGA’s next title will be Sony Exclusive and till occur the next Thursday at an official announcement in Japan. Read the following quote in Japanese:

“株式会社セガによる、新タイトルが発表!3月28日に全貌が明らかに”. Roughly according to Google Translate, it says this: “By SEGA, new titles are announced! Whole picture is obviously on March 28!”

“On the page, the PS3 and PS Vita logos are obviously visible.  IGN, VG247 and other game website are reporting that one game is due to be released. Honestly, I’m not a SEGA fan so I have no idea what it could be. IGN’s Colin Moriarty suspects it could be for Valkyria Chronicles or Yakuza while VG247 was thinking of perhaps the third Shenmue title “[Shenmue 3: which has been receiving press and Kickstarter][Source: Original-Gamer]

Shenmue 3 Needs Funding, Will You Donate to the Cause?

Recently Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki made it known that he is working on a Shenmue 3 title but needs funding. The title is still revered to this day as one of the best Dreamcasat games of all time and has even gone on to spawn many fan-based projects and demands/petitions for the revival of the series on modern platforms [thinking about a Kickstarter-like model to fund Shenmue 3, would also like to continue the story of Shenmue in anime or manga form]. Would you help to fund a Shemnue 3 title?

You Know You Were Thinking It!

This is a new section I will be doing to expose those hidden thoughts that are in the back of every gamer’s mind. You know you were thinking it!

1. Why does Princess Peach always need to be rescued? After all, the moves she has in various Mario games shows she’s capable of defending herself!

2. Was I the only person to think that Link was actually named Zelda? Talk about confused.

3. Will Sonic The Hedgehog ever die? It’s like the Energizer battery he keeps going and going.

4. Where is Shenmue 3?

5. How Many Mushrooms Can One Man Eat? aka Mario?

6. Did Dom from Gears of War go to Heaven or Hell?

7. Killer Instinct reboot? I hope and pray.

8.How many cakes can a Fat Princess eat?

9. Did MW3 steal all the Zombie’s glory? Uh oh, Zombie Revenge is imminent, or is it just DLC? Just kidding.

10. Finally, wouldn’t it be cool if Cat Women and Ryu from Ninja Gaiden shared a game together? Claws and Heads would be flying. Priceless.
