Surgeon Simulator 2013 Anniversary Edition Review

Surgeon Simulator 2013 RealGamerNewz Review

Simulators have been all the rage in the past couple of years. From Goat Simulator to even a Grass Simulator, Simulators have been popping up a lot recently. While some are good and very entertaining the others are just downright random and not as great. Well here is a Simulator where bad controls meet surgical operations: Surgeon Simulator 2013 Anniversary Edition. Surgeon Simulator 2013 is probably one of the most popular simulator games out there that invoke you having to – what else?  – perform surgery in many different environments, and not all of them are the same either. One surgery has you removing and replacing a heart, another has you doing the same thing except you are in the back of a speeding ambulance.

Any environment in this game will definitely be very stressful as it has you completing these surgical tasks while having to control each finger of a hand with separate buttons. While the controls may not be the best I can kind of understand developers wanting to make a player control as much of the whole hand as possible to ensure realism without breaking the feel of the game. But unfortunately, it still kind of makes things difficult because in Surgeon Simulator 2013 your task is surgery and if you have difficulties controlling a hand as well as each separate finger, then things are going to get really, really messy as well as very frustrating for the player. This game has made many people rage but it is still very popular due to the fun of the challenge.

I have put many hours into trying to play this and I can definitely say from experience that this game is hard as hell. Although I did enjoy it quite a bit because while trying to perform these surgeries I would accidentally slice open the brain, or hammer out a lung, or even accidentally chuck a replacement heart across the room making it inaccessible. What makes it harder and more hilarious are the various scenarios you get put into. Plus, with the Anniversary Edition even more scenarios get added in.

Surgeon Simulator 2013 RealGamerNewz Review 1

One of the extra scenarios in Anniversary Edition has you taking control of the Medic from Team Fortress 2 and having to perform a heart transplant on the Heavy. I, for one, thought that was funny due to all the references in the room in which you perform the surgery. The Anniversary Edition also offers more surgeries other than just that. It also offers more environments to perform surgery in, more surgeries to complete, and much more. You can purchase Surgeon Simulator 2013 Anniversary Edition right now on Steam.

Final Verdict:

Surgeon Simulator may be one of many simulator games but I feel it is the one with the most potential. Having to complete what would normally be complex surgeries in many different scenarios definitely adds to the challenge and replay ability of the game. The downside of the game though is the shoddy controls. If you don’t mess up when picking something up you will when trying to remove a vital organ. Overall, I only recommend this simulator game if you can get passed controls that can cause a lot of frustration.

Race To Mars Hands-On Preview

photo-main

Race to Mars is a turn based simulation space simulation that is being developed by Intermarum and is currently in Alpha, so there is a lot of bug fixes that will come along in the developing process. Race to Mars is a game that has been Greenlight by the Steam community. In Race to Mars, as the name implies, the user is in charge of a newly established space company who has the ultimate goal of establishing a colony on Mars. The development is where the game starts off, the user must naming their company, it then throws them right into a press event where they will be asked questions about their program, and how they will make the most out of this venture.

The Meetings and Conferences come up here and there and it’s the chance to for the user to prove themselves to the media that their program is continuing strong so that they may get a larger budget. Now that the user has started off they will need to build some buildings and get their dream space company on the roll, there is a lot of different buildings that need to be built and a lot of them can take quite some time to assemble hence the turn based nature of Race to Mars. Within building there is a building tree system, just like any other branching system for skills would work. Where the user starts with the lower end buildings and they lead into higher end buildings. This is so that the program can continue to prosper and since this will take months even years to build all of the buildings this is really essential to your program.

Since this is a simulation the developer is giving the user a lot to work with, including dealing with all of the money that it takes to run their space company. So, keeping an eye on the finances is a real key to success. Each month there are financial reports that will show where money is being made and where it is being lost in the development of the program and the company. Now the user will need others to work for them so they have a list of workers to go through and hire. All of the workers have different skills that will help them excel in their line of work. If certain workers aren’t pulling their weight the user also has the option to let go of their employees and terminate them. I have to give them credit here, because for how many employees they have quite a bit of detail such as name, age, country, salary, and their skills, so its like picking the perfect team to complete the task at hand. For the money side of things the user will have to deposit money and also take out loans as needed to fund the space venture.

On to the building part of the game, each building will have to be built in a specific order and the turns will have to be ended to continue progress of each of the building project. Now, some of the buildings have a user interface to them which allows the user to manage specific things within that building but, unfortunately not all buildings have this function. and since it is Alpha the functionality may be on its way. Another one of the bigger decisions is to go with either satellites or space stations, both of which require the user to hire engineers to craft the parts to actually build these. This is a very daunting task and seems to take a long amount of time and is not always the clearest on how to form all of the parts.

Race to Mars is a game that take the pace of the game very slowly almost a little too slow at times. Where the interface can feel clunky and confusing at time. I’m sure a lot of this will be fixed in the final version of the game though. One very frustrating thing is the ability not to be able to mute, the background music in my opinion is terrible, you can go into the options and turn the sound off but, the music keeps playing. I can’t wait to see the changes that the developer will make as they continue development of the game, users who enjoy a deep simulation will really stick to this game and enjoy it as long as the a few issues can be fixed.

You can currently buy Race To Mars in Steam’s store and check out Intermarum’s website

Euro Truck Simulator 2 Review

Euro Truck Simulator

Euro Truck Simulator 2 simulates the experience of being a truck driver throughout central Europe. The ETS world is enormous; I have driven for over 13 hours yet I’ve still only managed to discover a fraction of the world. Because of this, there is satisfaction in exploring new roads and cities, but the real satisfaction is when you get payed in cash for successfully delivering a load. That is why ETS is a great game; it is simple yet has a economic sandbox core.

Story: ETS doesn’t have a story. All that is available to do is drive and customize. You start off as a low skilled, trucker with no money or truck. ETS does a good job at teaching you how to drive, purchase trucks, and get work. At first, they force you to take low paying jobs to start you off; the more you play, the more you earn. After you have delivered your second load, the game allows you to get a loan from the bank. You can use these funds to buy a truck, garage, or upgrades. Its up to you what your money is used for. If you want to save your money for a huge, powerful rig, then go for it; or maybe you would rather take a loan and start with a cheap truck. This is where ETS has it right, freedom to do what you want and customization.

Euro Truck simulator Screenshot 1

Gameplay: The gameplay is good, but could have been better. You drive around 90% of the time that you play. Of course it’s boring, but it’s all worth it once you get that paycheck. ETS is called a simulator, but it’s more like a game than a simulator. So many elements of the game are unrealistic and feel out of place. For example, there is no visual damage on the vehicles if you wreck. No visual damage at all. The truck still has damage, and you have to pay for it, but there just isn’t any visual damage. Also, the other cars on the road look horrific. There are maybe five different car models that are used. This is weird because there are over 50 trucks. The trucks and the economy system are really the only well polished elements of the game. Everything else is just, poorly done.

Controls: This is obviously a driving game, and driving games suck when using a keyboard. I highly recommend using a controller if you want to have fun playing this game. It is also compatible with almost every gamepad, pedals, steering wheels, and shifters. If you have the full driving game setup, playing ETS could be an actual simulation of being a truck driver. But, most of us gamers don’t have all that gear.

Euro Truck Simulator Screenshot 2

Characters / Enemies: There are no enemies or real characters. You can hire people to truck for you, and you’ll get a fraction of the profit, but there is also no dialogue between you and your hired truckers. It isn’t supposed to have characters or enemies, because its a simulation, not a story driven game.

Graphics / Art Direction: The graphics are absolutely terrible for everything except trucks, and the interior of the trucks. Again, you’ll spend 90% of your time inside the trucks, driving. So, its not a major problem that the graphics suck, because you wont look at those graphics – you’ll look at the road and your interior.

Soundtrack / Audio / Voice: The soundtrack for the main menu is annoying; after hearing it for about 5 minutes I quickly turned it off. The audio sucks for everything except for the trucks. It almost seems like the developers worked really hard on the trucks and trucks only, everything else was pushed away. I cannot comment on the voice quality because there is no voice! There are no words spoken at all, but that’s okay because this is a simulator, not a game.

Euro Truck Simulator Screenshot 3

Multiplayer Aspect: It has no multiplayer features.

Replay Ability: This game has high replay ability, but only if you like it. After playing the game for over 10 hours I’ve realized that there is no point for me to keep going. I already had many trucks, workers, garages, and money. Why should I keep driving? I keep driving because I enjoy doing it, it’s calming and relaxing.  if you enjoy driving trucks in this game, then it definitely has high replay ability.

Engine Performance: I experienced one bug that basically just deletes my profile save whenever I add more mods. It was very easy to work around that though, all I had to do was make a copy of my profile before I added new mods. Overall, game engine performs well with no glitches.

Final Verdict:

ETS was a fun experience while it lasted. The first 10 hours were great, then once I have earned a lot of resources the game got boring. I now have no desire to play the game whatsoever, now it’s just boring for me. But, I think some people could really enjoy this game, if they gave it a chance. I know the game sounds stupid, but its not. It’s relaxing and enjoyable but most of all simulates what it’s like to be a trucker. Euro Truck Simulator 2 has earned a fair 7.5/10

Democracy 3 – The Political Simulation Strategy Video Game

Democracy 3

If you are looking for a thinking gamers’ game that gives you something different than the typical strategy title, you may want to check out Democracy 3 from Cliff Harris which pits your political ideals against their functionality in a virtual reality that is going to put those ideals to what is perhaps the most realistic test you’ll find in gaming / simulation. However, it’s not all about realism but rather a fun factor focused game designed for the single player strategy fans of the business that may be craving what strategy games used to be like. “The aim had to be to make a fun game first, and an accurate political-economic model second.” says Cliff Harris who currently has the game in Beta as we speak and is looking to release it some time in the near future. For more information on the game, check out the Gamasutra post about it here.

War Thunder Review

Firstly, allow me to apologize for such lengthy time it took me to finally get around to this, and Galaxia. I’m not one to make excuses, buuut.. It’s all Square Enix fault! FFXIV is too addicting. I eat it, I sleep it, I breathe it! O_O Anyway.. On to the review!

War Thunder, as most of you will know, is a Multi Massive Online Role Playing Game much like any MMO on the market today being developed by Gaijin Entertainment. With a  slightly different mechanic though than standard MMO’s with the whole being in planes, tank, and Battleships that are strongly void of Rhianna and Taylor Kitsch.

Gameplay: In War Thunder the gameplay is a blast, pun intended, as you blast your foes by land, sea, or air in large maps that are closely similar to the land at the time during the WWII era. I found myself deeply immersed into killing Nazi’s, a.k.a. Germans because no one wants to refer to Germans as Nazis, even Germans, and those damned ‘Japs’ (just kidding Japanese readers, the game is just that real). The scale of the maps were very large at a realistic 200 kilometers (125 miles) soon to be 300 kilometers (roughly 180 miles according to Google because I can’t convert kilometers to miles off the top of my head.) With realism as depth of this, it’s hard not to enjoy yourself in War Thunder.

For gameplay modes there are Arcade Battles,  Historical Battles, and Full Real Battles.

In Arcade Battles, you’re pit 32 vs. 32 in planes making you challenge the opponents strategies by having you defend you “country” with easy and basic controls. It makes the game easier, but fun for everyone to enjoy regardless of rank or skill.

War Thunder PS4 PC

Historical battles make for a much hardcore mode imitating real life damage and war as much as possible. Diving your plane to fast, pulling up, or going head on into a fight can prove fatal and have you ending the battle fairly quick Full Battles Now here is a mode that is harder than hard. Porn star junk hard. It reenacts flight simulation to the “T” where real life damage is taken and battles are hard due to the fact there’s no easy mode. Basically.. If you haven’t been shot mid air in the wing during WWII, you’re not going to know what the hell to do to survive plummeting into the earth. It makes for a real challenge and real fun.

Sound: Sound in the game as amazing. You heard explosions from other players in other places nearly right away in the distance and in the direct location of their shot. It made for a real cool immersion factor while you tried to maneuver your vehicle, whatever it was, to that direction only to go with frustratingly slow speeds to get there often. That was only due to realism, which I am not against. War Thunder uses realistic sounds recorded from actual planes, tanks, guns, and just about any other war machine from ‘Dubaya-dubya 2’, it sounded like you were apart of a real battle beginning to end.

Controls: War Thunder’s controls were very smooth and easy to learn, but I had issue with the plane controls, but I’ve always had a bit of an issue with planes in video games *cough* Battlefield! Oh my. Excuse me.. Didn’t mean to cough and type at the same time. I found it pretty simple to get into and also the responsiveness was on point regardless of how much I raged when I died, I couldn’t blame the controls even though I did.

Graphics: Graphics were on par with some of the best combat simulators out there and only in beta at the current moment. I was amazed by some of the smallest details which the graphical engine displayed greatly. The Dagor Engine, in my opinion, is a very underrated one which impressed me a lot.

Multiplayer Aspect: Of course this is the bread and the better of the entire game. You can easily find yourself delved into hours of play time and not even realize it. Time flies, more pun intended, especially with how in-depth the massively multiplayer online combat flight simulator developed by Gaijin Entertainment is.

Final Verdict: With all the depth, fun, and historical aspects of the game, I can see people spending hours of endless fun back in time reliving one of the world’s most talked about wars. It’ll be cool to see what Gaijin has in store for us when the game launches this November on the PlayStation 4, Mac OS X, and Windows PC. I give this game a solid 9 out of 10 making this one of our RGN Rated Gold Games.

The Simulation industry is a booming one and includes some of the worlds’ largest customers including defense contractors and government agencies throughout the country. Video Games may be the front-end of this biz, but believe that these virtual worlds aren’t only being created for your enjoyment.

The fact is that the military also uses them in virtual reality simulations purposed for various training exercises including many specialized mission ‘rehearsals’ and more. The latest announcement from Epic Games today details the newest of those simulations which involves virtual reality gear as well as the use of the Unreal Engine as a company called Intelligent Decisions has joined the ongoing Unreal Government Network project. You can find more information about the Unreal Government Network (or UGN for short) at the following website: http://virtualheroes.com/products/unreal-government-network-ugn.
