Goat Simulator Review

Goat Simulator

Every once in a while a game comes out that defies all logic and reason, and absolutely has no meaning to it whatsoever other than to provide entertainment to its players. Goat Simulator is one of those games. It’s chaotic, hilarious and absolutely makes no sense, which makes this game particularly difficult to review given that even the developer said that it would keep all the bugs save for the game crashing ones.

In space no one can hear you baaah…

Goat Simulator is a sandbox game in which you play a goat; there is no story, just pure unadulterated goat themed fun… for about 6-7 hours. The world provided is very limited and as are the things to do in it. Most of the jokes lose their potency very quickly because of the limited size of the world and therefore the limited content within, they are fun the first few times around, but it’s just that sacrificing people to a pentagram kind of losses it’s charm three or four times in. You get challenges that you can try to accomplish however there is no payoff for doing them and ultimately the points are pointless (no pun intended). There are collectables hidden and scattered around the world that unlock different goat skins with different powers that do add to the experience a bit.  Ultimately there is no progression whatsoever.

Final Verdict:

Don’t get me wrong, Goat Simulator is fun.

The core of the game is just running around head-butting things in order to send them flying or to get them to explode. Just about everything in the world is destructible and of course your powerhouse of an animal is capable of dismantling all of it. There are different items and powers your goat can acquire such as a jet-pack or demonic powers that send you souring sky high. On top of that you can use your goat’s tongue to drag things around the map setting elaborate traps for those pesky humans or just dragging something in the middle of the road to be hit by a speeding vehicle. The game is a total mess, but that’s what makes it so charming, so few games are so chaotic and unpredictable that being intentionally messy is a welcome charm of the game.

Overall Goat Simulator is a good game, it’s fun with some great ideas but due to its limited size falls short of being B-A-A-A-A-DAZZ.

-Hey… I needed to put a goat pun somewhere in here!

Tristans Twisted World: Dead Space 3 Review

Dead Space 3 is one of the big time horror games on the market. People like it because it can be scary, emotional, and have some great gameplay in it. Dead Space 3 brings in some new elements such as fighting humans for the first time and how bout all that snow man. Whether this is the worst or best Dead Space or maybe a new type of game is up to decide.

Soundtrack, Audio, Voice: The soundtrack features the classic horror moments and some really good emotional pieces that fit their scenes. The audio mixes well with gun sounds and necromorphs yelling along with dialogue and music at all the same level. The voice acting is the best in the series this time around. Isaac and Ellie really connect with little screen time given. Issac and Carver having the most interaction was a good idea well if you play CO OP but it was really well put together learning about both of them together. Other characters did good jobs to but naming some of them are spoilers in a sense.

Graphics, Physics, Glitches, Engine Performance: The graphics are amazing the character animations to showing what they feel is wonderful in this game. The physics at times get kinda unbalanced as a few times you could glitch out or the enemys would get stuck in the air it just was a mess until we got a patch. The Visceral Engine was pushed to it’s max on current gen consoles but it was made better than what they put into Dead Space 2 with way too many glitches in that game even with patches.

Characters / Enemies: Some characters were less important but ended up leaving a impact when they had a well spoiler. Issac, Carver, Ellie, and Jacob Danik the bad guy seem like the most work put in even though I did like Captain Robert since he had a bigger role than thought. The necromorphs seem more aggressive than ever with more types but also the new mix of humans into the enemy class.

Gameplay: The new role and cover systems add a better feeling sorta like a run down Mass Effect in a way but it fits the close combat of Dead Space. The humans add more threat since they use weapons and go suicide. The idea that they put it works as it is the best combat system in Dead Space to date. Necromorphs also can shoot now if a new enemy type and the fact the turn your enemy against you as well as it is a big three way battle in combat.

Solo Story: It is the classic Dead Space experience expect with the new gameplay and combat system. Walking alone in the dark with enemies everywhere watching you is unsettling more so when you are in the ships at the start of the game. As the story goes on it gets more dark and emotions roll in between you and NPCs. The planet also adds more aspects to the marker mystery. Also with a big time dramatic ending that leaves some questions.

Co-op Story: Pretty much adds cutscenes with Carver and Isaac and extends the story and makes optional missions a bit more worth it. It makes combat a whole lot easier to such as in boss battles one person can distract and the other can attack like during the fights with the spider for example. It is a worth it experience especially if you have a good friend that will play it with you. Random matchmaking is kinda bad since people drop out all the time better to invite.

Final Verdict: Dead Space is so far the biggest surprise to me this year. I went in thinking it would be an alright game like Dead Space 2 was but I was mistaken. Dead Space 3 turned out to reach out to me a different way so it is getting a 9.25 out of 10. Get ready to go crazy with some visions.

Overall Score: 9.25/10

Call of Duty Playing it Safe on Black Ops 2 to Avoid Fan Outrage?

Black Ops 2 Official Logo

Well it’s official, Black Ops is back for round two. I’m still not sure how I feel about this, fully knowing that another carbon copy of the same game is what  do best. I think most of us are hoping for something a lot better then that. From what we have seen and heard so far it appears that there will be some changes. They are saying that it is warfare in the near future. The pics look like updated Halo soldiers, but why are they being gun-shy with going full future like Battlefield 2142 did?

At least one new weapon has leaked the quad-rotor RC attack helicopter which was turned into a real life weapon on FPS Russian’s channel. Also there is a rumor that the Spy Perk will be returning this rumor was started by the new short video that is up on the COD site that basicly say’s “The enemy could be anywhere and it could be anyone ” The Spy perk’s definition is appear as a friendly on the map ( disadvantage is, your always spotted even without a UAV, and when shooting, you turn red on the map). Pro : detect enemy spy’s. They will always be spotted on the radar. Elite : If pilot is active, your airship will be marked as an ally.

So some of the question’s I guess will be will they bring back the zombies and will it be in a less claustrophobic environment? Maybe they could use some of that near-future twist to make it some sort of man made outbreak situation that unfolds while your playing that would be innovative for this title to say the least. What if any changes will we see to the kill-streak rewards system? Or maybe it is just left out of the game all-together. Lastly what other kind of weapons, perks, and environments would really give COD a chance to prove they can make something better or even just a little different then what they hash out every year.

There were a few things for me that made Black Op’s a better game to me then MW3. Like the zombie mode for one and the overall feel and game-play were better than MW3 in my opinion. The Black Op’s maps seemed to play better then MW3 maps do as well. The chat system worked way better then the garbled noisiness of MW2 and MW3. Any of the people on my friends list have tossed MW3 aside and have gone back to Black Op’s or even MW2.

Will the campaign mode story give us something that we have yet to see from this franchise? I think it dam well should! They have pushed it to the near future so something has to give in that department. Going backwards in the time-line has been to overdone not only in this series but in most other shooter series as well. What about larger maps for multi-player mode with some vehicles? For the money we been dishing out every year we deserve some dynamics added to the playing field.

We already can bank on the crappy server system they have proved time and again that they don’t care about not having dedicated servers making us use the matchmaking system from hell over all of the previous titles that is unless you want to dish out the coin for servers yourself and play with only the other people who have done the same.

I will be picking this game up upon release for a few different reasons. I always give the franchise a chance. I don’t want to not buy the game and have it be the one time they actually redeemed themselves by making some original changes and breaking out of the cookie cutter mold that has been Call of Duty for so many years. And whether it does or doesn’t change you can bet I will be filling in the blanks after playing through the entire campaign as well as logging no less then 40 hours on multi-player and co-op.
