DayZ Standalone Has Sold 800,000 Copies

DayZ

Creator Dean Hall has revealed that early access alpha dayZ Standalone has sold over 800,000 copies, in less than one month.

Dean Hall wrote on Reddit:

“We (Bohemia and I) had very ambitious plans for 2014 already, however this amount of sales was completely unexpected. Honestly, 250k within a quarter was what I would have considered a success. So to move nearly 800,000 in under a month is crazy. We’ll be finalizing our roadmap in mid January, but it is safe to say that this kind of result will be having a very positive effect on that roadmap.”

DayZ Alpha Makes Over $5 Million In 24 Hours

DayZ Standalone ARMA II Mod Gameplay

The Alpha offering (Alphas come before Betas) of DayZ Standalone has sold over 172,500 copies (netting $5.1 million in revenue in just the first 24 hours) so far according to ARMA series publisher Bohemia Interactive. Gamers have embraced DayZ ever since it was debuted as an ARMA II mod for free and are now willing to throw down money on Steam just to access the Standalone release which comes hot off the heals of ARMA III which took the series to the next level.

In the original mod players were sent to survive in a massive world each taking place on servers alongside various other players, some out for doing good and some out to betray players. Many more mods have released since attempting to recreate the success of DayZ but haven’t quite nailed it.

Bohemia Interactive saw the opportunity to work with the developers of the mod similar to the way that Valve worked with the Counter-Strike creators to make CS into a full fledged game (as well as Left 4 Dead) and now both of those are successful franchises. DayZ seeks to lift itself up to the mainstream level and gain a new fanbase while rewarding their dedicated and loyal fans with improved quality as well.

Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army Gameplay Trailer Released

If you like killing zombies then I think you seriously should have something checked out about you because frankly that’s just demented. Since it’s still legal to prepare for the Zombie Apocalypse the hard way though, there’s nothing anyone can do to stop you from having a fun-filled zombie-killin time now is there?

In the following Gameplay Trailer released today by 505 games for Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army we are shown how “terror multiplies” as the size of a downright deadly zombie horde is altered on the fly for gamers to deal with (hope you brought bullets). The 1 to 4 player co-op campaign was released as a standalone game by developer/publisher Rebellion and serve as an expansion to Sniper Elite V2 available now on PC.

PlayStation Games Could See Episodic Releases Soon

With the success of The Walking Dead episodic gaming experience Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida brings it to consideration that many other PlayStation titles could benefit from sometimes having episodic content. Imagine being able to download a smaller title in between large releases.

This business model seems to work great for standalone DLC coming out these days such as “Episodes from Liberty City” the Grand Theft Auto IV DLC that you can buy and play without owning the original game. Other examples include inFamous Festival of Blood and Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty.

The cheaper price-point for a smaller game is an accepted tradeoff for gamers that are waiting for the next full release from their favorite franchise or just don’t have enough cash to grab it yet. It can also serve as a great way to draw in people who ordinarily may not have chanced it with a full price game. Once they play the cheaper episodic content that can drive them to pick up the full titles.

Yoshida had this to say in interview:

“Episodic has been talked about for a long time and most people are skeptical until [they] play The Walking Dead. Now we are big fans of episodic gaming. We’re believers now,” he told Polygon.

“Hats off to [the] Telltale guys, they proved it works. I’d be happy to see some of our games adopt that model in the future.”

Saints Row The Third Gets Standalone Expansion Pack Instead of Mini-DLC Ripoffs

THQ and Volition are quite pleased with themselves, and they should be. Saints Row: The Third is beyond ‘cult classic’ status on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles. Recently THQ and Volition decided to give us a more in-depth informative view of their upcoming standalone expansion pack “Enter The Dominatrix”. This looks to be a beefier DLC than we usually see and for that RealGamerNewz tips their hat to the THQ and Volition.

Check out the full press release: “The real world may be a lie… but this announcement isn’t. THQ Inc. (NASDAQ: THQI) and Volition, Inc.® are proud to announce the development of Saints Row®: The ThirdTM – Enter The Dominatrix™, the groundbreaking standalone expansion to Saints Row: The Third. No longer an April Fool’s dream, the outrageous game concept will be reality this fall. It’s really happening.

“With a franchise with more than 11 million units shipped globally, it’s incredibly gratifying to have the flexibility to give Saints Row fans the features they want most.”

Slated for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, for a suggested retail price of $29.99, Saints Row: The Third – Enter The Dominatrix takes the award-winning, over-the-top action of Saints Row: The Third and adds the most requested gameplay features from the Saints Row community: freaking super powers.

“Faster than a speeding cyber jetbike, more powerful than a roided-out Luchadore, able to leap flying aircraft carriers in a single bound… That’s the power you’ll find inside the Dominatrix. Use it for good. Use it for evil. Use it for whatever you want. As always in Saints Row, it’s up to you,” said Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President, Core Game Production, THQ Inc. “With a franchise with more than 11 million units shipped globally, it’s incredibly gratifying to have the flexibility to give Saints Row fans the features they want most.”

He later added, “Freaking super powers.”

About Saints Row: The Third – Enter the Dominatrix

Saints Row: The Third – Enter the Dominatrix picks up immediately following the events of Saints Row: The Third. For centuries, alien warlord Zinyak has eyed Earth and its precious natural resources and females with a watchful eye. As he prepares an armada for invasion, he has only one worry: the Third Street Saints.

Once a simple street gang from Stilwater, the Saints have evolved into a global empire, replete with bombastic TV advertising and tasteful consumer products, the kind of TV advertising and consumer products that would give any alien warlord pause. Clearly, the Saints are the biggest badasses on Earth.

Now, in order to prepare his forces for domination, Zinyak captures the leader of the Saints and imprisons him in an elaborate virtual reality simulation. This simulation program looks and feels like Steelport, but it is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth. Here, you are a slave. Welcome… to the Dominatrix.

More details and a first look at Saints Row: The Third – Enter the Dominatrix will be available this summer.”
