Street Fighter V to Feature 16 Characters at Launch; Future Characters can be Earned in Game

RyuvsChun

Capcom has revealed several new details for Street Fighter V. One of the biggest things announced, is the publisher’s new approach to releasing post-launch content:

  1. The initial release is the only disc you will ever need to own
  2. All balance and system adjustments will be available for free
  3. All post-launch gameplay related content will be earnable for free by playing the game

Capcom stresses that all game related content that they put out for Street Fighter V, will be free.

“Long gone are the days of forced Super and Ultra upgrades! Enjoy free balance updates as soon as they become available, and find and choose the post-launch characters that you want to get.”

Cammy

The base game will launch with 16 playable characters, 4 of them will be brand new to the Street Fighter universe. Capcom plans to add new characters to the game’s roster “on a continuous basis”, but will implement a new service-based model, so players are no longer forced to purchase an upgraded version with characters they don’t want.

“Looking back on the Street Fighter IV series, we had always released bundles of content all at once, like with Super Street Fighter IV and Ultra Street Fighter IV. While these one-time updates did revive interest in the series every few years, it was difficult to keep players engaged for long periods of time unless they were competitive. This also punished players who took a break from playing the game, because if they wanted to start again in a few years, they would be forced to purchase an upgrade to join the existing player pool who had already moved on to a new version. On top of that, this old method also forced players to purchase all of the new content, even if only a few characters may have appealed to them.”

Street Fighter V will feature an in-game economy system that will contain two types of currency:

Fight Money

  • This is basic currency that players earn through playing the game. Once players accumulate enough Fight Money, they can use it to earn new post-launch gameplay content, such as characters, for free!

Zenny

  • This is premium currency that players can purchase with real money to immediately gain access to post-launch content.

Capcom is determined to avoid splitting the game’s player base in two and hopes to create more long-term interest.

“Players also have more freedom in their decisions, as they only need to purchase or earn the content that appeals to them. This will also create more long-term engagement, because the more you play the game, the more you are rewarded and can earn new content. The player base is never shrunk by requiring a paid update like in years past. Players can take a break from the game, but then come back at any time and continue to play with the characters they already own, with the newest gameplay balance.”

Players will get a chance to test out this economy system in the later phases of Street Fighter V’s Beta. The first phase (PS4 only for now) will begin on July 23. Pre-ordering the game is the only way to gain access.

Justin Wong and ComboFiend Duke it out in Street Fighter V Exhibition Matches at E3 2015

Capcom-Street-Fighter-V-Will-Never-Launch-on-Xbox-One-Due-to-Sony-Partnership-484170-2

During this year’s E3, competitive player Justin Wong went one-on-one in Street Fighter V with Capcom USA’s community manager Peter “The ComboFiend” Rosas in a series of exciting matches. The game looks incredibly smooth and fun as we see the like of Ryu, Cammy and Bison pull off their signature attacks and specials. Birdie looks like an absolute beast!

While ComboFiend took the W during their first encounter, Wong showed why he’s one of the best Tournament level players out there, embarrassing Rosas by handing him 3 consecutive loses just one day later. His Bison is no joke.

Street Fighter V is due to launch in Spring 2016 for PS4 and PC.

Collector’s Only #4 – Looking Back

Collector's Only Looking Back

In the last console generation gamers saw a flood of games that saw a collector’s edition or limited editon when they we’re released.  There so many of games of yester-gen that got this treatment that a lot of them felt tacked on to give the developers and publishers an extra SKU and few actually stood out to the gamer at large. in this edition of Collectors Only we take a look back at the games who’s collectors edition actually stood out and gave those gamers who invested the extra money something to be proud of.

Halo 3

Halo 3

Halo 3 arguable kicked off the Collector’s Edition crazy of last gen showing people that they can and will be successful putting the right content inside the box. The box in this case was a Master Chief helmet and included all of the items in the limited edition (extra maps, behind the scenes etc) and just look cool to put on display for all of your friends and family to bask in its glory.

The Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collection

SF25

Capcom did the unthinkable with the release of the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collection by packing in almost every Street Fighter ever created. It also contains Street Fighter 2 the animated movie and the Street Fighter IV movie, the complete soundtrack, a black belt, an art book and a certificate of authenticity this is a must own for any street fighter fan.

Infamous 2 Hero Edition/Uncharted 2 Among Thieves/The Last Of Us

Infamous 2

UC3 CollectorsTLOU Post Pandemic Edition

Sony made sure that they give their fans a lot of bang for their gaming buck in these collector’s editions with Infamous 2, Uncharted 3, and The Last of Us. There is so much content, and extra goodies in these collector’s edition that make it almost mandatory to buy them at launch or lose out on the bragging rights to those who did.

The Elders Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was a massive gem of last generation that threw gamers into the unfamiliar region of Tamriel  and into an adventure unlike any we’ve seen before. The Collector’s Edition of Skyrim gave gamers a Behind-The-Scenes look at the development of the game, a quality art book, steelbook, Dovahkiin Dragon Statue and a leather-esque map of Skyrim not available in the standard edition.

Batman Arkham: Series

Batman Arkham origins ce

The Collector’s Editions for the Batman Arkham series has got better with each entry into the series. The teams at Rocksteady, Eidos, and WB Games has packed each collector’s set with statues, DLC, memorabilia, movies and more; leaving gamers to wonder what Batman Arkham Knight will contain in its collector’s edition.

Grand Theft Auto: V Collector’s Edition

GTA V collector's edition

Grand Theft Auto: V was the last GTA game on last gen consoles and its collector’s edition trumped the previous entries which also had an impressive package of its own. RGN fan may remember when I unboxed this marvel but in you cased you missed the video you can check it out here. Rockstar games packed this beauty with a Collector’s Edition “Los Santos” fitted cap, a bank envelope and key, a blueprint map along with Collector’s Edition DLC and steelbook of the game.

Mortal Kombat 9 Kollector’s Edition/Tournament Edition

MK9 Kollector's Editon
MK9 Tournament Edition

Netherrealm Studios and WB Games made magic when they released MK9 last gen and they believed in the title so much that they not only released a Kollector’s Edition with a limited edition statue but a Tournament Edition with a limited edition fight stick as well. The game did so well that the tournament edition sold out before the game even launched prompting the developer to re-release the MK9 fight stick with the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection.

Super Mario All Star’s 25th Anniversary Edition/ Super Mario Bros 25th Collector’s Edition Wii Console Bundle

Super Mario 25th Anniversary
Super Mario 25th Anniversary wii

Nintendo pulled out all the stops for the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros, starting the re-release of Super Mario All Star’s which contained all three of the original Super Mario Bros games as well as the “Secret Levels”. The game also came with a collector’s booklet detailing Mario’s history and CD soundtrack with music from the entire Mario franchise. Nintendo didn’t stop there as they then released an all red Wii console bundle complete with a all-red Wii-Motion plus Wii-mote as well as Wii Sports and Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Developers and publishers went all out for the games last year and this list is only all small portion of games that had a Collector’s or Limited edition package. There where more games that had a collector’s edition last gen than all of the previous gen combined, now the question is will this gen lived up to the legacy? We hope you have enjoyed this edition of “Collector’s Only” and if didn’t see your favorite games collector’s edition on the list leave us a comment below.

BradyGames Announces The Ultra Street Fighter IV Bible

Elena

BradyGames is set to release a guide for Capcom’s update fighting game alongside its retail release next week, as announced in their press release. The ‘Ultra Street Fighter IV Bible’ is being dubbed the “Ultimate reference for the world’s greatest fighting game’ and while the last bit is debatable, it certainly looks like it might live up to the “Ultimate” part.

The Bible will feature new tips and gameplay strategies to help competitive and casual players alike up their game. One of the more interesting tidbits are the inclusion of complete hitboxes for every character within the game, to show the effect of each attack. This is a first for Street Fighter guides outside of Japan, now players worldwide will have a better understanding of them and be able to learn the reach and area attack to hurt their opponents. Tournament veterans have lent their tips and expertise and how to not only establish a game plan, but to secure a victory by carrying it through. All that and more.

New Fulgore Character Trailer Revealed, New Killer Instinct dev revealed

en-INTL_L_Xbox_One_Killer_Instinct_FKF-00816_mnco

The hype train for the newest Killer Instinct is revving up even more with the release of series mascot Fulgore coming April 9th. Just barely missing that March deadline we were promises but there’s a bit of good news. Along with Fulgore, the much anticipated Online Lobbies are coming, as well as the equally anticipated Arcade Mode. The trailer can be seen here on Maximilian’s YouTube channel.

Fans of Killer Instinct have been awaiting Fulgore’s full trailer and release info for quite some time now and I must say it does not disappoint. All hype aside there’s also news about the new developers taking the reigns once Double Helix Games leaves. For those who don’t know, Double Helix Games was recently acquired by Amazon (hopefully to develop games for their long rumored console).

The new development team team taking over is none other than DiveKick devs Iron Galaxy as confirmed by an article by Polygon. How do some of you long time KI fans feel about the Fulgore reveal? How do you all feel about the delay on this content? More importantly what do you think of developer Iron Galaxy taking over for Double Helix Games? Personally I think the franchise is in good hands, I mean look at what Iron Galaxy did for Street Fighter: Third Strike Online. Let us know how you feel in the comments below.

Project X Zone Review

Project X Zone RealGamerNewz Review

Project X Zone is developed by two companies Banpresto and Monolith Soft. While both developers are Japanese companies that have a good track record for games, Monolith Soft has been working on games such as the very awesome Xenoblade Chronicles and Chrono Cross. Project X Zone is published by Namco Bandi Games, they have a long track record of publishing awesome games that have come up under their name on it such as Dark Souls, Ni No Kuni, Soulcalibur V, Ace combat: Assault Horizon, and the upcoming Super Smash Bros on Wii U as well as the Nintendo 3DS.

When told I was going to be playing Project X Zone I was super pumped. I had seen things about this game at E3 2013, still having no clue what the game was like in my own hands until I got my code for it, put it into my Nintendo 3DS XL, and booted it up for the first time. I was blown away by this game. First off this game is very Japanese, just by the way that everything is subtitled and the characters are all speaking Japanese, and the art direction also follows suit.

Project X Zone RealGamerNewz Review 2

Project X Zone has a story following the theft of the ‘Portalstone’. The Portalstone is a stone that has been protected over the ages and Project X Zone’s plot follows detective Konoro Tenzai to locate the stone. From there the story twists and turns and I found it really hard to follow, but that wasn’t a problem because you are looking at a very long story to play through which is good. You’re going to get a lot of bang for your buck with Project X Zone, there is at least 40+ hours of game to play through.

The gameplay in Project X Zone is very awesome. Players have, on one side, a top down RPG with grid movements that is turn based with so many variations to it. Then there’s the best battle system I’ve seen in a game for a long time. When you go into attacking someone you get a 2D mixed with 3D type of fight scene reminiscent of Street Fighter. You will either be attacking solo or you will have a pair of two characters. You also will have cross-hit and support-hit where you can have nearby allies join in the fight and give you some support during fights which will inflict major damage. In each of the levels you will get the chance to play as several different characters and get items as you play that will become very handy during gameplay.

The controls end up with players usually using the circle pad and buttons on the right hand side. The d pad is rarely used and there is the option to use the bumpers (which are used here and there). Any gamer can pick this game up pretty easily, because it teaches you how to play the game with on-screen directions. When you are in battle it also shows you combos that you can use in-game, they are specific to the character you are using.

Project X Zone RealGamerNewz Review 3

Speaking for the characters in this game there’s characters from franchises like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Tekken, Devil May Cry, Valkyria Chronicles, Tales of Vesperia, Dead Rising, God Eater, and Mega Man. The graphics in the game are ‘pixelated’ 3D models in the RPG mode and there is really good art when you are in the fighting mode. This game is going to have a very high replay-ability. Handheld gamers will be able to come back to Project X Zone over and over again.

Final Verdict: Project X Zone is an extremely enjoyable mix between fighting and role playing from Monolith Soft and Banpresto presented by Namco Bandai Games packed full of Sega, Capcom, and Namco Bandai’s characters and earns a 9.6 out of 10 from RealGamerNewz. It’s one of the best 3DS games played to this point and one of the best games played in 2013. We recommend that if you have Nintendo 3DS, you need to pick this game up and enjoy it now.

Official Trailer:

Overall Score: 9.6 / 10

Once Again, DLC Already On-Disc for a Capcom Game…

So the time has come where another game has been plagued by the controversial “on-disc DLC” condition. It shouldn’t come as any surprise being that this is a Capcom game. It was recently discovered, but long foretold that Street Fighter X Tekken has done DLC content that is partially or in some cases may be completely stored on the discs of the games themselves already (thus making unlocking it cost a fee even though you’re unlocking content you already own).

Despite the many complaints alraedy, to me, this isn’t really a big deal, or at least not more so than any other DLC. The fact is most DLC is made while the game is being made, regardless if they put it on your disc or not. At this point though, we all know what the fighting game niche is like and how Capcom treats their fans. If you didn’t see this coming you should get your eyes checked.

Cinemablend reports: “The news is spreading like wildfire, proving that all of the long-term DLC Capcom had planned for Street Fighter X Tekken is already on the disc. New gameplay footage and additional details confirm that the downloadable content on the Street Fighter X Tekken disc is completely accessible with the right tools.”
