Halo: Spartan Assault Review

halo-spartan-assault

When Vanguard Games and Microsoft first announced a Halo game for your tablet / phone I was in between on my opinion. I really wanted to play Halo on my phone but was worried it might be a cash in at the same time. After playing some good hours in it I can finally have a true idea of what I like and dislike about this title.

phpspgkop

Soundtrack, Audio, Voice: The soundtrack featured is very similar to that in most Halo games. I was surprised to hear some new scores for this game so it was a added surprise bonus for me. Audio is nearly perfect as the game coming from my phone feels as if it is on my television or computer in terms of quality. Voice acting is sparse due to the fact the game is all about the combat which is completely fine with me.

Graphics, Physics, Glitches, Engine Performance: The graphics are by far some of the best I have seen in the mobile market and still look visually impressive on your PC. Glitches are rare as it seems to very well polished, but I have only one complaint about some parts were you try to get into a vehicle but you get ran over instead even if it’s not moving. Physics are what you would expect from a top down third person shooter of simple features. The engine they used to design the game is perfect for Windows 8 as it one of the best running games I have played in any form mobile gaming.

Controls: The controls featured on your phone or tablet are really good but some slight complaints. Certain vehicles are hard to control but still manageable at times. Running and gunning is simple and using grenades and armor abilities are very easy to understand even without a mouse and keyboard. I would not say it’s hard to control as it very well polished but some small things that could be fixed with a update.

Gameplay: The whole idea is simple depending on missions, either just simply wiping waves of Elites, Brutes, and Grunts. Maybe even helping snipers get into position. But the same idea of making sure you aim shoot and kill is all there is to know. It is similar to Gun Bros which if you want idea go download it now, it’s free. But at the same time it has that Halo twist making it much harder than Gun Bros. Before each mission you have load outs which will give you standard weapons. Some weapons can me purchased with XP others with credits. But you can only get credits by using real money. Luckily if you beat Halo 4 you get a good amount of redeems for the weapons you have to buy. The skulls available increase the difficulty but help you earn more XP. I find the top down third person shooter aspect a great fit for Halo from a game play standpoint.

Capture

Story: Spartan Assault’s story takes place sometime between Halo 3 and Halo 4. You must play as Sarah Palmer and Spartan Davis and you must fend of a invasion. The whole game is really a simulation of those events. But non the less the story is not really deep but as we all know that is not the point. It is simply expanding the Haloverse to a different type of style and market.

Replay Ability: Very High

Final Verdict: The premise to bring forward a new way to play Halo is a cool idea. Luckily it payed off. Halo: Spartan Assault is already a instant hit on Windows 8. I find the game very fun to play for hardcore time or in your spare time. I found very little wrong with this title and call it one of the best things to happen to Halo yet. I award Halo: Spartan Assault a 9.75 out of 10. See you on the virtual battlefield.

TitanFall Releasing for Windows 7 PC and Windows 8 PC, Not Just Xbox ONE

TitanFall releasing for the Xbox ONE later this year will also make its debut on the Windows PC gaming platform. Not only will gamers be able to crank up Respawn Entertainment’s latest with their high-powered PC specs, but they won’t need to use a clunky and hated operating system to do it either. The much loathed Windows 8 will be supported but also the more fluid Windows 7 will be host to the New IP TitanFall. Respawn Entertainment is comprised mainly of the team started by the two creators of Call of Duty and Medal of Honor known as West and Zampella by the gaming world. An Xbox 360 of this game is also being planned for release for gamers not ready to adapt with the next-generation movement just yet.

Apple Outsells Microsoft For First Time Ever

Apple produces the extremely popular Mac computer product line including MacBook Pro laptops and is also the creator of the massively popular iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch (in addition to the two different Apple TV devices). Microsoft makes the traditional industry standard for computer desktop and laptop operating systems Windows (which has many different versions) as well as the phone and tablet operating system versions of Windows 8 as well as their Xbox brand, SmartGlass, and Slate projects. For the first time ever 2013 will be the year that Apple’s products will actually outsell Microsoft’s Windows Operating System including all versions of Windows Vista/7/8 on desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones.

Fact or Fiction: Xbox 720 to Come in Two Versions, Always-Online, Mandatory Installs

Major media outlets has been deploying Xbox 720 rumors left and right in such succession that our heads just stopped spinning long enough for us to get a bearing on gravity again. These are some of the latest things being said about the Xbox 720. Until Microsoft reveals its console make sure to take all of this as Rumor. Microsoft’s next console, which is expected this April, or at the latest E3 2013, may end up arriving in stores through two completely different hardware offerings.

The first a media-centric, Windows 8-based affordable console that will not play AAA Xbox 720 next gen titles but will play “downloadable content”. Think Kinect Sports, Angry Birds, Madden, Call of Duty, presumably maxing out somewhere around Xbox 360 quality horsepower. This device will also attempt to compete with your cable provider by becoming a “set top box” and showcasing Microsoft’s plans for TV services including business partners like HBO (this TV service was originally in development for Xbox 360 but was later delayed).

The second version of the Xbox 720 will of course be expected to compete with the PlayStation 4 in terms of raw power for next generation titles pushing the outer limits of what is possible with High Definition and 3D HD gaming respectively. Unfortunately the rumors don’t stop there. Xbox 720 is also expected to required all games to be installed to the hard drive and will not run off the disc.

This will render the disc useless in regards to used games sales. Similar to Blizzard’s Battle.net login system the games will need an active online license attached to your account to play the games. This means that you can distribute the data of the game on discs and it will not work unless you’ve bought the game directly from Microsoft’s online service or their official sales partners (if any).

Rumor: Xbox 8 Has Unreal Engine 4 and Windows 8 in its Arsenal

Mark Rein of Epic Games talked up the Unreal Engine as he announced at the DICE Summit that the soon-to-be-seen Unreal Engine 4 is “Already Running” on products he claimed could not be named at this time. Heavy speculation is pointing to the Next Generation Xbox, called the Xbox 720 by many as the name formed out of necessity and fan-base creativity. New updates on longstanding rumors point out a new potential naming scheme, Xbox 8.

This new development in combination with the notion that Windows 8 will allow gamers to play Xbox 360 (and assumedly ‘Xbox 8’) games on custom-built gaming PC’s paints a very interesting potential for Microsoft’s next-gen. Many critics of their decisions this generation have often called out for Microsoft to become a software entity in the gaming world and license out Xbox Live as a service rather than sell consoles.

This combined strategy of ‘Xbox 8’ and the universal log-in and games library for PC’s and consoles could be something similar to what we are seeing with Sony’s PS3 and Vita. Next Generation could be the generation when gamers reap the rewards from all the intense competition going on between Microsoft and Sony.

ThisIsXbox goes deeper into the details of the ‘Xbox 8’ naming scheme, and further reinforce longstanding rumors of cross-platform services from Microsoft Next Gen across console and PC. Imagine, being able to play Xbox 8 exclusives on your tricked out Windows 8 gaming rig. Even the potential of playing Xbox 360 exclusives across Windows 8 has been heavily mentioned.

Does this mean gaming is going multiplatform from both Microsoft and Sony? Does this mean that Microsoft is bringing Xbox Live to the PC and finally admitting that Games for Windows Live is loathed at best by gamers and always has been? Only time will tell.

For now, take a look at the following excerpt from a recent article at ThisIsXbox:

“Recently we reported that alpha forms of the next-generation Xbox console which could be named “XBOX 8″ – not 8 because it’s the eighth Xbox, but because it’s the eighth generation home console and heavily shares the same software as upcoming Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.

It was reported to us that the next-gen console was on display by invite only during CES 2012, running a version of Battlefield 3 in next-gen visuals – most likely to be up on par with current high-spec gaming PC’s.

Microsoft previously reported that there will be no next-gen Xbox announcement at E3 2012, but then again we also remember the amount of times they denied an Xbox 360 Slim console before that was the surprise of E3 2010!” [ThisIsXbox]
