Legend of Dungeon Review

Legend of Dungeon

Legend of Dungeon is a role playing game that long-time fans of the genre will appreciate and likely fall in love with as it is one of the most new-meets-classic indie interpretations of Action RPG gameplay to hit the industry in a while. The game sees players delving deeper and deeper into its dungeon system vanquishing foes and obtaining various power-ups with a gameplay system that is both intuitive and satisfying right from the beginning. Finally, a role playing game has arrived which doesn’t try to be different for the sake of being different – and yet feels unique and fresh to the genre. The developer has taken elements that have worked in the past for this genre while bringing a totally new presentation and feel to it at the same time.

Legend of Dungeon Gameplay 2

There have been some complaints from players about this title being a Roguelike (and yet a complete and true Roguelike since there is currently no saving in the game). This title is not an Early Access game, leading us to believe that this is a permanent decision on the part of the developer. We don’t view this as a negative point in the game because it is the developer’s design decision and actually puts this title in line with the Roguelike genre quite nicely. But be forewarned, if you don’t want to play a game that doesn’t save your progress – Legend of Dungeon is not for you. The game also ends if you die, again staying very much true to Roguelike titles – however there is a twist. If multiple players are gaming together on one PC using controllers / keyboards over local co-op, then spirit orbs can be used for resurrection of dead players.

Graphically Legend of Dungeon aims at the retro era of gaming, represented with a fancier form of pixel art providing viewing aspects that give the game some amount of depth visually as well. The artificial intelligence plots against you with quick action but once players get their bearings with the controls there will be a lot of fun factor and replay value found in this title.

Final Verdict:

We applaud Robot Loves Kitty for sticking with their decision to make this game a true Roguelike experience and are impressed by their understanding of what makes an Action RPG tick. Truth be told, RealGamerNewz has been waiting for a game like this and will be spending many an hour traversing the dungeons Legend of Dungeon has to offer. For the asking price, this simple yet pure interpretation of the role playing genre is a must play and presents a real challenge to any gamer who thinks they are a serious player, or of the “hardcore” variety. I’ll give you a hint, if you can’t handle playing a game with no saves – you “ain’t” it.
