Call of Duty 8: Modern Warfare 3 is the latest installment of the best selling FPS ever, but it’s on every system – is that why it sells so much? Is this game really even worth it?
Multiplayer: The supposed “most fun multiplayer out there” is back again with new classes, kill-streaks, guns, equipment, etc. Some of the new ways to play in Call of Duty this time around sort of feel like playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the first time.
The maps have improved from Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2 with some more featured locations. Some of the new weapons and such make this Call of Duty a lot more fair than other entries in the series. For example, the Commando perk has always been was way too overpowered for its inaccuracy and the stakeout could shoot someone over 50 yards which doesn’t make sense for a shotgun that size. MW3 has fixed all of those issues and made a more balanced multiplayer.
The servers are still terrible. It might just be all of the players but since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare the series has suffered a never-ending plague of dropped games. Even years after a game has come hopefully they may update it or in a future title make it more dedicated. The kill-streaks are a lot more realistic this time around. There’s no random attack dogs or surprise nukes making me think MW3′s balance is far by none close to the best if not the best of the 8 games so far. Despite the fact the maps seem a little too close to the campaign , I tried to cope.
Special Ops Missions: The missions sort of felt like Battlefield 3 but that’s not a bad thing. Despite the fact that teamwork is not needed as much in these missions, it does add to the replay value of the game. They are fun missions in which you will usually end up doing objectives like defending areas and such. It is a worth it to play through it for me personally but hardcore multiplayer gamers might want to skip it altogether due to the lack of teamwork.
Special Ops Survival: The staple stone of the multiplayer for me in MW3 it feels like a first person Horde on Gears of War and definitely blows Black Ops Zombies away by a long shot. It requires some teamwork especially when you’re facing a russian juggernaut. For big co-op games or just endless waves of fun, COD Zombies fans this is something worth playing in MW3.
Graphics: The Call of Duty 8: Modern Warfare 3 graphics can be considered in the 2009-2010 standards of good graphics as they improved a lot since the E3 demo they showed when it looked like MW2 but if you haven’t played this game – think of Halo 3: ODST, that’s what this game looks like to me visual quality-wise.
Call of Duty Elite: The new progression system in COD:Elite is full of lag so I couldn’t get perfect on this. I’ll be back to review the service when the first MW3 map pack comes out, sorry folks.
Campaign: The best part of this game for me in an epic single player story mode. It pretty much takes place right after MW2 and shows what has happened in all Modern Warfare games. It starts out like MW2 but it’s World War 3 so it looks like the reveal trailers – it’s a good intro.
Captain Price and Soap play major roles in the story again but during most of the game you play as Yuri an ex-spetsnaz soldier who helps Soap and Price. You also play as Frost, an army marine who serves in Delta along with Grinch, Sandman, and Truck in Delta.
You play as other characters as well but personally I didn’t think they mattered as much to the story. You fight mainly in America, England, France, and Germany of course as shown in trailers. This is where MW3′s World War 3 mainly takes place. In this about 6 hour campaign which I’m glad they extended the time a little bit. it still makes for a great experience. The story mode is for anyone who enjoys epic moments, intense fighting scenes, and just plain old Call of Duty.
Final Verdict: This game is not for everyone. Mainly big FPS gamers, Call of Duty lovers, and multiplayer gamers want to pick this up. If you like a little lag, mindless shooting, and over-the-top story modes give it a whirl, since that’s what most Call of Duty games revolve around. Tristan’s Twisted World awards Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 a 5.5 out of 10 since I’ve bought the same outdated game style so many times I’m finally sick of it folks.
Overall Score: 4.5 out of 10
