Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Edition Review

Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Edition

Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Edition is the PC version of the mobile role playing game from Paradox Interactive which brings back the classic JRPG feel and gameplay many have known and fallen in love with since the early 90s and before. With this game you fill find a focus on gameplay above all else. For that we are appreciative, as most JRPG’s don’t exactly have a great introduction. Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Edition is exactly what the RPG genre needed.

The story of Knights of Pen and Paper sees a crew of gamers hopping on to the table for some tabletop goodness. Not a fan of tabletop gameplay? That’s okay because for you, the player, everything is video game style. You will go from location to location defeating enemies and completing quests. This is a pretty cool and meta way to story the game, because you are playing as people playing as people completing said quests and enemy battles. This is sort of like the RPG version of Inception in that manner.

Oh baby. Can I say that in a Review? Oh yeah, RealGamerNewz is the only uncensored gaming site on the net, I can say whatever I want. Oh baby, this is exactly what the RPG genre needed. Yeah I said that twice but that’s how good it is. If you love RPG’s buy this game now. If you don’t know what an RPG is anymore after all the strange releases claiming to represent the genre, Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Edition will teach you the truth.

In each battle you face you will be able to add the enemies you face manually. You’ll increase your experience until the point you can handle the roughest in a given area, and there is also boss fights that will test out how well you managed to grind up until any given point (which you cannot control the amount and types of enemies you face during). When you have to travel from place to place, you will roll dice. The dice roll you get will determine how far your characters will be able to travel before facing a random encounter. The game’s controls consist of classic JRPG style selections of which attack you’d like to use. Each character has a unique special abilities list which is unlocked as you go forwards. Contrary to that you can also just click on any enemy if you are running through the motions of normal attacks.

The soundtrack and sound effects in this game really bring you back to the old days with none of that ‘modern feel’ stuff to ruin it. Replay ability feels through the roof as there is a percentage completion counted on each town. You’ll have main quests and many side quests, but also, you will never get sick of playing this as the genre is currently really lacking such a throwback title as Knights of Pen and Paper. The engine performance was solid with no glitches at all during our play-through of the game.

Final Verdict: Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Edition is the enhanced desktop edition of the mobile game, and should be a loud and clear beacon to all RPG fans and companies of what the industry needs to remember as the founding principles of the role playing game genre. This game receives an almost perfect 9.5 out of 10 from RealGamerNewz and is a Platinum Game. The only thing we’d like to see is a little bit more meaning associated with the side quest story-lines. This game pretty much encompasses what a role playing game should be, and is exactly what we think of when we hear the three letters R-P-G.
