Mass Effect 3 First Week Sales / Review Scores released by EA

The long-awaited third installment of Bioware’s Action / RPG in space is finally here (out now for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC) and the timing seems to have been great. Announcing sales numbers as well as review ratings proudly, EA Games and Bioware released a press release to their fans via our ‘often-less-than-beloved’ gaming press and other media entities.

The results are definitely something to be proud of for the decision and freedom-based game that forces players to make life-altering decisions in which they trigger various different outcomes to both the ending of the game as well as the overall experience and side content. Sales came in over 3.5 million in the first week while EA Games claims ownership to a 95/100 average review score on MetaCritic, counting 30 Perfect 10/10 scores at the time of this post.

GameSpot was among those to also award the game an Editor’s Choice award. It may be a while longer before the full extent of the gaming community’s feedback is processed, but if you wanted the first batch of opinions on the game it has arrived and it is good news. Mass Effect 3 is a title real gamers everywhere should get their hands on and enjoy right now, if our gaming press industry is to be trusted.

Excerpts From the official Press Release:

  • “Already having earned over 30 perfect scores and an average review score of 95*, enthusiasm for Mass Effect™ 3, the latest title from BioWare, a Label of Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: EA), is at an all-time high.”
  • “Over 3.5 million units of the award-winning game have already shipped worldwide in its first week of release, making Mass Effect 3 the first pop culture event and the biggest entertainment launch of 2012.”
  • “GameSpot, who awarded Mass Effect 3 with one of the many Editors’ Choice awards the game has received, declared “whether you possess a storied history with the series or come in with a clean slate, Mass Effect 3 expertly entangles you in its universe and inspires you to care about its future.””

Rumor: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 in November (Or is it Iron Wolf?)

More rumors must be discussed as reports have come in that a retailer has listed Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (first broke by HipHopGamer of HipHopGamerShow.com) in their pre-order section. This could be a case of the retailer in question jumping the gun on displaying this year’s COD release (which has already been announced by Activision but with basically no details given officially at the time of this post), or it could be an error on the retailer’s part.

Judge for yourself, however there has also been heavy rumors about this year’s game being named Call of Duty: Iron Wolf. This could be a fan fiction that rumor mills are being hopeful with or it’s the real deal. Supposedly people have been spotted playing it on Xbox Live already. But as always, time will tell the truth to these rumors.

Square Enix Details World Transfer Application System

Square Enix has just released an extremely thorough and detailed breakdown of some events to come in FFXIV. The PC version of the game is undergoing renovations originally set to prepare the game for its PS3 release. Check out the full details below on the merging that will be going on in the game’s servers soon:

“In order to improve the player experience, we will be merging Worlds on Tuesday, March 27, 2012.

We have reevaluated the World merge system based on the large amount of user feedback we received in response to the World Merge and Character Transfers update of February 9. Now that the details of the new World merge system have been decided, we recommend that all players review the World Merge Summary and Notes Regarding the World Merge and World Transfer.

This World merge is intended to improve the player experience during the period up to the launch of FFXIV Version 2.0. New Worlds may be added in the future, for example after the relaunch or when player numbers increase.

Key Dates

March 1 (Thursday) to March 19 (Monday), 2012: World transfer application period. *

March 27 (Tuesday), 2012: World merge maintenance to be carried out.

Information regarding the time required for the merge maintenance process and other details will be released at a later date.

* The World transfer application period will consist of two stages. For details, see World Transfer Application below.

Merge Details

The Worlds will be merged according to the system below. The new Worlds will be named after the merge has taken place.

* Recommended for European time zone players.

Ragnarok will be recommended for players in the European time zones. This should improve the playing experience for European players, who form a small minority scattered across the Worlds, and make it easier for them to get together and form parties. However, this is a recommendation only. The World will not be restricted to European players, and players from other regions will be free to transfer to the World.

Please note that if we determine that the new Ragnarok does not attract enough players to deliver a satisfying game experience, we will consider options such as reopening World transfer applications or merging with another World. We therefore encourage players to keep it in mind as one of the options.

World Transfer Application

During the World transfer application period indicated below, players will be able to select a destination World on the World Transfer Application Page.

World Transfer Application Page.

World transfer application period:From 0:00 a.m. PST, March 1 (Thursday) to 0:59 a.m. PDT, March 19 (Monday), 2012.

* The World transfer application period will consist of a first and second stage.

First Stage: From 0:00 a.m. PST, March 1 (Thursday) to 0:59 a.m. PDT, March 12 (Monday), 2012.

– Players will still be able to change Worlds even after applying for a World transfer.

* Players will not be able to select Worlds that are already populated with the maximum number of characters, but players will be able to move from such Worlds to other Worlds. Note that if a player leaves one World to transfer to another World, and in the interim the first World is filled with the maximum number of characters, the player will no longer be able to transfer back to the original World.

* It is possible that some Worlds will reach the population limit very soon after World transfer applications begin.

Second Stage: From 1:00 a.m. PDT, March 12 (Monday) to 0:59 PDT, March 19 (Monday), 2012.

– Worlds that are populated with the maximum allowable characters will be fixed and locked.

– Locked Worlds cannot be selected as a transfer destination.

– As well, all players in locked Worlds will no longer be able to apply for World transfers.

For this reason, we recommend that players complete their World transfer applications in the First Stage.

(Example)

If Hyperion becomes populated with the maximum allowable number of characters:

– Players cannot apply to transfer to New Hyperion.

– Characters who have already applied for Hyperion can no longer select another World to transfer to.

– All characters in Trabia and Kashuan who have not already applied for a transfer to another World can no longer do so.

Conditions Required to Apply for a World Transfer

To apply for a World transfer, an existing playable character must be associated with a player’s service account. As long as a player has at least one usable character, a destination World may be chosen for all characters in the service account, including characters that have not yet been paid for.

* To view and change subscription details, visit the Square Enix Account Management System and click Select Service on the left-hand menu, and then select FINAL FANTASY XIV.

Notes Regarding the World Merge and World Transfer

All character data will be transferred, with the exceptions described below.

Character Names

After the merge and transfer, if two or more characters with the same first and last name exist in the same World, only one character can keep the name, based on the order of priority below.

1. Characters that are playable on both March 26 (Monday) and March 27 (Tuesday), 2012.

2. Characters that were created first.

If your character name must be changed because another character’s name takes priority, please enter a new name by following the on-screen instructions when you first log in after the World merge maintenance has taken place.

* After you enter a new name for the character, the change will also be reflected on the Lodestone.

With this World merge, all character names reserved for use from the Open Beta that have not yet been assigned to characters in the release version will be deleted, and thus no longer able to be carried over.

Retainer Names

If retainers with the same name exist in the same World, only one of the retainers can continue using the name, based on the same conditions described above for player characters.

If you are required to change the name, please do so by following the on-screen instructions when you first log in after the World merge.

About Linkshells

• Carrying over linkshells

All linkshells shall be carried over to the new merged Worlds.

* The Lodestone linkshell pages will also be carried over.

* Players who transfer from the new merged World to a different World will be removed automatically from all linkshells in the current World.

* If the linkshell master leaves the merged World and transfers to a different World, the master will no longer be a linkshell member, but the linkshell itself will continue to exist in the merged World.

• Linkshell names

If two or more linkshells end up sharing the same name in a merged World, the linkshell with the most active characters will keep its name. For linkshell names that must be changed, the game will automatically add numbers such as “01” and “02” after the name.

In this case only, players may use a GM call to change the linkshell name after the World merge maintenance is completed. Because linkshell names may be rejected due to the use of forbidden words or other reasons, players should submit multiple candidates when making the GM call.

* Only masters can change linkshell names.

Friend Lists/Blacklists

Friend lists and blacklists can be carried over after the merge, but players who leave the merged World to transfer to another World will lose their friend lists and blacklists.

Character Info on the Lodestone

The World name displayed in character pages, diaries, and histories (including finished histories) will change to the new World name after the merge. If the character name changes, that will also be updated.” – OFFICIAL SQUARE ENIX NEWSLETTER

Borderlands 2 Doomsday Trailer + Release Date

2K Games brings forward a release date for the already highly anticipated sequel to 2009’s RPG/FPS mash-up. In this genre-blending series gamers have cherished the drop-in/drop-out online co-operative fundamentals of Borderlands. The community also had a high interest in extending that experience with more and more DLC packs. With Borderlands 2 Borderlands is promising more of that, but also the potential for an “all new experience”.

You can pre-order Borderlands 2 at the merchant of your choice. The game will release September 18, 2012.

“Borderlands 2 is a passion project, through and through,” said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. “The result is a sequel that has improved every successful aspect of Borderlands while innovating with an all-new experience.”

“The addictive gameplay and shooting and looting mayhem of the first Borderlands is back and better than ever in Borderlands 2, taking the franchise to an entirely new level,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “With more guns, more enemies, more missions, an engaging story and all-new characters, Borderlands 2 promises to bring a new era to gaming this fall.”

Rumor: Half Life Episode 3 Website Proves Game is a Go

According to a lot of online rumors that seem to be persistently adding up to virtually a conspiracy, Half Life Episode 3 is coming at some point in the future. Most recent to add to these rumors is the exhibit of black-aperture.com a website that shows the Half Life logo with the number 3 on it and the Steam, Valve, and Source logos beneath that.

“© 2011 Valve Corporation, all rights reserved. Valve, the Valve logo, Half-Life, the Half-Life logo, the Lambda logo, Steam, the Steam logo,  Aperture Science, the Aperture Science logo,  Source, the Source logo, Valve Source are trademarks and/or registered trademarks of Valve Corporation.” is shown at the bottom of the page and the titlebar reads “Status: Mark 7” while you are on the page.

If you click on the website’s logo you will be taken here, where you are shown The Orange Box.

Could this game be truly reaching announcement soon, and could this website imply that it may be a Steam PC Exclusive? Take a look for yourself and see what you think.

Every book on the ground in Skyrim is now part of a real E-Reader book collection

The books found on the ground in the Elder Scrolls series are known by fans to be an immersive set of lore interactions. Though the mechanic of reading books in a video game might not be popular among today’s gaming audience it is still practiced as a storytelling technique that can even provide a chill to the gamer under the right circumstances.

It could even be argued that this format holds immersion better than having certain things explained to you by a narrator or character within the game. The elegant solution is that you are still your character holding a book while the cold wind blows around you and your journey awaits your blood-stained sword.

Apparently the cult following that supports this type of lore reading in Skyrim has grown quite strong and now Capane.us has gone so far as to add the Skyrim books to the E-Readers: Kindle, Nook, iOS, etc. You can download it for free on their website at the time of this original post.

How to carry unlimited items in Skyrim

A Machinima director has discovered the key to carrying unlimited items in Skyrim. Pinoytutorial put together a tutorial guide for quick reference. It is unclear if Bethesda will be doing something about this or not and if any patches will rectify these exploits in the future. In the meantime you will have to use these at your own discretion. Be forewarned that some gamers have found it less fun to cheat before they have beat a game the legit way.

“As you can see from the clip, you’ll be able to use your companion Lydia to carry any items you want even though she has already reached her limit. Of course, there’s a lot of companions you can hire on Skyrim but Lydia is the most common one since you can have her earlier on the game after finishing a basic quest.

So to do the bug, you simply need to drop all the items individually. Once they are on the ground, aim on the items and ask your companion to pick it up. Magically, your companion can pick all the items you’ve dropped even though she has already hit a weight limitation. Just to double-check, you can see at 1:39 mark that all of your items are stacked accordingly with Lydia.”

Worldwide industry source GamaSutra reports that Steam has been hacked via an announcement made by Gabe Newell directly. While the cause of this breach and the exact amount of effected accounts remains unseen, it is confirmed that Credit Card information (and more) has been compromised. Steam makes up a huge segment of the PC Gaming market and is a newfound mecca of gamers across the globe.

Here are the official statements:

“Valve’s games-on-demand Steam service has been hacked, the company said Thursday, saying that a database containing private user information has been stolen.

That information includes user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information, according to an email sent by Valve managing director Gabe Newell to Gamasutra.”
