Tristans Twisted World: Battlefield 3 Review

Frostbite 2 engine that sums this game up this game a lot. I also asked a veteran in the military if this was a realstic experince, and he said not by a long shot.

Multiplayer: The variety of big maps and team tactical combat is unmatched in this modern day FPS. You have to help your team out in a lot of ways in this game, by reviving and storming in. picking up so many options it feels real the style and the stamina while running is perfectly ligate. Knifing is definitely the most realistic kill in the game as it isn’t some stupid swing across the view, you must go up and stab your enemy. It makes you feel like a solider at some points with the recoil and aiming and destructible environment.

Co-op: The work of the two players is vital if one player goes away it is very difficult as it depends on straight up working together. The story in takes place around the campaign in areas you may have or not seen but it takes place as an alternative as you stop them from nukeing Paris at the end of it. But you must rely on each in co-op or you will fail that means talk to each other and plan ahead.

Campaign: The major area of this game for me as the main character is Sargent Blackburn you are being court marshaled but first the military wants all the info they can get out of Blackburn,so he tells his story which spans over a year in this 5 hour campaign. You fight terriost, Russians,Police, and even your own at a part of it. Most of the game you are trying to figure out what is going on in the world it all depends on the race agiasnt  time to stop nukes from hitting major points which one nuke destroys Paris and you save New York city from the second one at the end maybe it will have a sequel cause of the ending and maybe the second nuke wasn’t a threat who knows Battlefield 4 will come one day. But at the same time it fells like the story is like the improved Black Ops story

Graphics: PC the graphics are  great one the best or close up there with Crysis 2 on the PC as it looks as real as my own hand at times.PS3 the graphics seem to only reach highness on HD TV on any other its missing something.Xbox 360 you need two disc and download the HD content but its doesn’t close to the PC version. The console graphics just look flat out muddy and rushed compared to what I played on the PC.

Final Verdict: Beautiful Graphics, some of the worst teamwork multiplayer I’ve ever seen, co-op where you have to work with your partner which can either be great or terrible, the campaign as a decent story its epic just a little too many cliffhangers and ugly looking graphics on consoles. I find this game to be one of the biggest disappointments of 2011. I award Battlefield 3 a 3.5 as it fell below the Call.

According to analysis by VG247 on GameKicker Nintendo’s official financial report is a record of their first annual loss occurring during the year 2012. The official sales of the 3DS to date are also in for debating. See the full info below:

“Nintendo has reports its first ever annual loss at a net loss of ¥43.2 billion, a lower than expected figure compared to what was previously predicted.

Total sales of Nintendo 3DS during FY2012 were 13.53 million, with software at 36 million. LTD, 3DS sales are now at 17.13 million, with software at 45.4 million units.

The vanilla DS line – DS, DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL – sold 5.1 million hardware units and 60.82 million software units. In its lifespan, the line has sold 151.52 million units combined and 900.31 million units in software.

For Wii, Nintendo reported hardware sales of 9.84 million units in the FY with software at 102.37 million. Lifetime to date, Wii’s now sold 95.85 million units and 818.46 million software units.

For FY2013, Nintendo has predicted it will stop selling 3DS “below cost” by the middle of the fiscal year – around September – and expects to make a profit on each unit sold by then. It follows a massive price-cut for the system last August that was put in place to boost flagging sales of the handheld.

Its predicted hardware sales of 18.5 million and 73 million software for 3DS in the next 12 months.

Following up on those, Nintendo has big releases planned for the year ahead, including New Super Mario Bros 2 for 3DS in August, Animal Crossing for 3DS this fall, Brain Age 3DS this summer in Japan

Call of Duty 9: Black Ops 2 Leaked In-Game Screenshots of Quadrotor, New Intel Drop Unlocks

Our buddies over at MP1st have been keeping up with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 very closely as fans of the Call of Duty franchise. Not only have they brought leaked in-game screenshots as of late but they’ve also broken down the codes Activision has been leaving to be deciphered in their major marketing campaign.

If you are a diehard COD fan then you will definitely want to take a look over at this page which also includes the Quadrotor being potentially confirmed as a real killstreak in the game. This also lines up well with the “near-future” theme that is being used with the Black Ops 2 game, seen in the video above. It is very likely that Acti was trolling us all along with the “FPSRussia” video.

Top 5 ‘WTF?’ Moments in Gaming Innovation this Generation

Correct me if you feel I’m wrong, but I’ve seen so much let-down, missed opportunity, generic/vague washover, and flat-out devolution as a gamer this gaming generation that I feel the need to speak up. How many of you out there can relate to me? When you are such a big fan of a franchise, it is nearly impossible to be satisfied with the evolving progress of said franchise.

Yet generation after generation we have seen Super Mario move into 3D, we’ve seen Resident Evil move to over-the-shoulder camera angle, we’ve even seen Final Fantasy go from being all about gameplay and story, to all about cinematography and story, and we’ve seen shooters redefine the online play-space over and over… until this generation, when the standard of innovation fell off a cliff for some blockbuster names.

Here is my personal Top 5 Smallest Advances This Video Game Generation based on my own personal bias and interests as well as my reactions to events in the game industry. I don’t expect everyone to agree (especially not with all five) since we all have our own viewpoints and opinions surrounding these largely popular titles, but hear me out.

5. LittleBigPlanet 2 – Looking for love in all the wrong places, LittleBigPlanet was rejected as an Xbox 360 exclusive and found its home on the PlayStation 3 where custom network solutions and User Generated Content are championed, not shunned. After the original’s huge success, many people found themselves playing endless community levels inspired and created by everyone from 3 year old geniuses to bored adolescents spending a few minutes on something they will never complete. The true gem of LittleBigPlanet was definitely its creation system, but did they have to give up on the rest of the game?

LittleBigPlanet had Story Mode levels that were truly unmatched by their User Generated counterparts. The sequel might not be able to hold that same achievement, for better or for worse. Before the beta was even complete for LittleBigPlanet 2 we saw gamers trying to recreate Final Fantasy VII just to prove how advanced their ‘LBP2 skillz’ had become. This is truly great, but somewhere along the line LittleBigPlanet needs to re-define itself before it loses its soul to random vagueness that User Generated communities can sometimes cause.

The little sack-boy story took a good evolution but if the creation mode insists on being the most important, we are going to need to see an adult version of this game with guns and more realistic graphics. Playing with sacks all day gets old, and this sequel came very fast and very disappointing for me. Maybe it’s me, maybe I’m asking for too much in the post-Guitar Hero era. Don’t get me wrong, LittleBigPlanet 2 is an amazing game that’s probably one of the best throughout the year it released, but it could have been so much more if it wasn’t rushed out for a cash-in.

4. Final Fantasy XIII – Just like the other franchises mentioned in this post, this game strikes in my heart as a very important moment in gaming. Upon the release of Final Fantasy XIII I found myself intrigued, mystified, and very curious. The greater half of vocal majority players online and die-hard FF fans voiced their internet rage (and in some cases in person) over what is probably going to go down as the “worst Final Fantasy of all-time”. Even being worst in such a series as Final Fantasy still doesn’t mean the game is automatically horrible. I found enjoyment in it and feel like I understand the system that was put in place for the battle to shift from individual actions to over-arching strategies.

However, this game really brought to light the issues that the fan-base has with Square Enix and their new direction with the title that has been ever-distant from the original FFVI + FFVII styles that made the franchise so popular in the first place. Like with Resident Evil’s progression over time, we see increased focus on graphics, increased invasion of Action elements at the sacrifice of Adventure and Role Playing ones, and worse – a failure to respond to the fans’ needs for innovation. Just when I thought things were going to be saved, the ‘Gestalt mode’ made me cringe as I found it to be a never-ending Chinese torture session of missed opportunities for amazing gameplay design.

Final Fantasy is a game that has always pushed the envelope. It makes a point to be different every time, so asking for it to bring back some of its roots into the formula might be a little out of line. However, I do think its worth noting the similarities between the largely beloved Final Fantasy X and the largely hated Final Fantasy XIII. Both games sacrificed a lot to bring what is essentially a linear experience to the gamer world in which Final Fantasy is still well represented. It worked the first time, but maybe it’s time to learn while you are ahead and keep FF an RPG game with a more believable illusion of freedom than was presented in FFXIII.

3. Unreal Tournament 3 (PS3 Version)  This game could have been a masterpiece, especially the PlayStation 3 version which was a timed console exclusive by Epic Games (though no one would know that thanks to their $0 advertising campaign supporting that factoid). The exclusive features on the PS3 to justify this? Oh no big deal, just MOD SUPPORT, and FREE MAPS from the UT3 ‘modding’ community. This was an amazing feature to include, in fact revolutionary to an industry that now champions DLC as a way of selling every little enhancement, map, and feature that gets added to a game after release.

Why then, was it never implemented in full? Epic Games seriously dropped the ball in a way that is unforgivable this time with the failure to make the maps and mods smooth to play on and share on PS3. If you head over to UT3Mod.com right now you will still see new mods and maps being released periodically for the 2007 FPS game. However, despite Epic Games teaming up with the creator of this website which hosts maps and mods across the entire, massive UT3 Mod community, the “mod browser” offered in-game (and released a long time after the game) is a joke at best, doing almost nothing to simplify installing these mods and maps.

The pinned “2020” post of how to install maps using the PS3’s Web Browser should be a testament to how useless this feature truly is. The game also claims to “auto-download” custom material from servers running this content, however it never seems to be that simple and installing is always a must anyways. Unreal Tournament 3 should have taken the world by storm, but it was missing that ease-of-use LittleBigPlanet had when it comes to accessing User Created Content.

Those of us patient enough to actually roll with the archaic system got to see everything from UT3 snowboarding to playable characters like Cloud Strife and Marcus Fenix on the PlayStation 3. You have a lot to learn from Sony and Media Molecule on this one Epic Games. But you should have already known better having already had a successful and alive mod community. Another case of dollars over innovation, disappointing and definitely a ‘WTF?’ moment for this generation of video games.

2. Resident Evil 6 The game is still not here, so the verdict is out of course. However, from the looks of what we are being shown so far, I have to be honest – I’m a little disappointed already. With Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube came the first major re-draft of the Resident Evil series since the original trio debuted to huge popularity on the original PlayStation system. Gracefully done, RE4’s formula brought a lot of Action elements into the series which seems to have been necessary due to hardware limitations that were introduced by pushing graphics to the limit for the generation of consoles it debuted for. RE5, while a beautiful looking game, should no longer have been pushing those limits on current hardware.

Rocking a GUI nearly identical to RE4 though we saw RE5 rise to great popularity amongst a typical amount of negative fan feedback (you can’t always please everyone right?). I personally relate to people who miss the more survival-horror, exploring roots of the franchise. However, I do feel RE4 and RE5 were done very well, and thus acceptable evolutions of the series. But for Resident Evil 6 to continue making minor tweaks to this formula without re-defining the game again causes me to feel slightly robbed.

I take a jog down memory lane and realize that we are playing the same original concept that debuted on the GameCube so many years ago. At this rate it seems Capcom is never going to give us that mystical, fantasized balance between Action and Survival Horror that all true RE fans crave. Instead they want to try and bring us that same compromise but with the same UI we’ve been playing since RE4.

Many fans are okay with the small tweaks Capcom is bringing to the table with this new installment, I just pray we see a new engine and facelift to the game and aren’t doomed to keep playing RE4 re-arrangements generations into the future.

1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 To break down an exhaustive list right now about everything that innovation junkies find troublesome with the COD franchise would be redundant; that’s what google‘s for. That being said, some of the worst points that can be pointed out are the maps, the greedy DLC structure that ELITE didn’t make better as promised, the lack of acceptable bullet tracking and hit detection (that the Kill Cams prove as well as YouTube), and best of all a major lack of change while game after game was presented.

That sure was a mouthful, and if you love this franchise still then you won’t feel my pain on this and will probably see my view as that of a hater. Either way, the fans of Call of Duty are sectioned off to so many different segments. There’s COD4 killers out there still believe it or not, even as COD9 (Black Ops 2) approaches. More importantly there’s MW2 players with and without the DLC, MW3 players with and without ELITE, Black Ops players that don’t know up from down anymore, and World At War players screaming “I’m still here!”, but nobody can hear them.

How are we supposed to be interested in this as online multiplayer veterans of the gaming industry? How many times will people be willing to buy the same thing over and over again? I suppose we will have to wait and find out when some real competition surfaces, since currently no shooter is able to challenge good ole’, all American COD.

Conclusion

Love it or hate it, every game has its pros and cons. That doesn’t mean we should lie down and accept “good”, “okay”, “decent”, games that are “straight” at best and only called the best by those who are following the dollars. Most of these games are not completely garbage, and actually some of them are very high quality productions. The reason these games were chosen is because they have all given the feeling that much more could have come of this. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if every game company worked with Mod developers and Indie designers and threw all of the corporate complications out the window to go beyond the mainstream redundancy we see today.

Modern Warfare Spokesman left Call of Duty to form New Game Dev Studio

Robert Bowling, most well known for his work as Community Manager of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare franchise, has announced that his departure from Infinity Ward was for a greater plan. Not content with being in the sidelines as a “cheerleader” of sorts, Bowling has formed his own Video Game Development Studio called Robotoki. The company has already begun to describe, through Rob, their desire to create cohesive experiences that can transcend various gaming devices without becoming redundant, dumbed down, or lost in translation.

As Lee Bradley reports,

“According to Bowling, Robotoki wants to focus on “creating a universe first, experiences second, and game mechanics last” so that it can produce “experiences that transcend platforms and genres and allow our players to connect to our world, their characters, and gameplay via any medium”. Which all sounds rather grand, doesn’t it?

“However, how they experience the world is unique to their device,” continued Bowling. “The mobile / tablet experience should not mimic the console or PC experience, it should be additive to it, not supplemental. Allowing them to support their console and PC experience, continue their progression, but by experiencing the world in a meaningful and unique way.”

“Our focus is creating an experience that is no longer strictly single player, strictly co-op, or strictly multiplayer, but adapting the strengths of each of these into a unique experience that is fueled by the actions and contributions in each.””

MLB 12 The Show Review

Spring is here and with spring comes baseball, best of all, the new release of the most authentic baseball game that the industry has to offer – MLB 12 THE SHOW. This series has been at the top of the food chain for four years running. The highly polished franchise holds the premier MLB license that boasts unparalleled detail and compelling features to provide the player with the ultimate game-play experience.

So what has changed since last year? First off they have added full move support, something I feel should have been added in the previous title but better late then never. It has full move support now meaning that you can control every aspect of the game on the field in every mode as well instead of only when you are at bat. Custom meters have also been added on screen to enhance the experience.

MLB 12 THE SHOW has also been released on PS VITA. This will allow you to access all of the core modes including Exhibition, Season, Franchise, Home Run Derby, Road To The Show, even online play taking the show on the road where ever you go. New Vita touch screen controls have been specially programmed the front and rear screen can be used to throw the ball, make pitch commands, and run the bases. Cross platform saves between the PS3 and PS Vita will allow the players to share the files between their PS3 and PS Vita. Users will only be allowed one file per PSN account but can be overwritten as many times as you want.

Some new controls have been added to this year’s release. Pulse pitching uses the “X” button that has an on screen pulsating circle for accuracy and placement of the pitch. I like this new set up it seems to give a more realistic margin for error. There’s also analog zone batting with a combination of previous controls with some new ones. The stick will still be used for stride and swing but using the left stick you can actually control where in the zone you want to swing on the fly. You can also guess where the pitch might end up before hand and if you correct the zone will hint by moving to that zone before the pitch is thrown. I like the new controls I use a combination on the new and the old that’s the good part the old ones are still just a option change away if you prefer them.

Diamond Dynasty is another new addition to the series. It has you controlling everything from team management to player’s progress with online competition. Creating teams with fully customizable logos, uniforms, even the name. Starting out with a hand full of player cards at the creation of the team when they are activated they will appear on your teams roster. Dynasty player has to put in the time the same way the road to the show player does including the training. The players are rewarded with and award/ achievement system. Upon completing a collection of MLB players cards rewards of cards from other users. You may also purchase cards from marketplace. Your budget money is earned from playing ranked online matches or play against the CPU. The system will evaluate your team every five games for placement into one of five divisions spring training, season series, division series, champion series , and my favorite the world series.

There have been a ton of improvements to the mechanics this year. Collision awareness that now helps the other players on the field avoid hitting each other and changes how they react when someone is within their proximity. The tag animation allows the players to proliferate out of any throw animation as well as any tag animation helping to avoid it. True ball physics has also been added this year giving the travel of the ball a more realistic path. Incorporating the proper spin and trajectory when it it comes into contact with anything on the field. Including the ball losing energy as it bounces, rising and sinking line drives, and better choppers. I have definitely noticed the improvements in this department the ball reacts to everything from topspin to tailing away from the outfielders.

I’m not sure if it’s because of said improvements but I have experienced some ridiculous errors while playing. For instance a routine ground ball to the shortstop he scoops it up then throws it five feet over the first baseman’s head. Another example of this is a ball hit right at one the outfielders he drops it then goes to pick it up and drops it again. Now these examples always seem to happen at a crucial time when I have a guy in scoring position or I am in the bottom of the eighth inning of a no hitter. Maybe they added the choke factor as well at least that’s what it seems like to me when it happens.

The graphics are well defined at this stage from the realistic looking fully customizable players faces and bodies to the team specific arenas. Even the dust of the infield gravel comes to life when the players shuffle through it. And as far as the music goes doesn’t matter upload your own music and play-lists under THE SHOW SOUNDS you will be glad once you did. In the practice sessions you get the echo of your music playing in the empty field and in-between where the stock music usually plays.

Before we continue the rest of the review, here is a list of enhancements, improvements, and new features.

  1. Over 500 new Presentation animations
  2. Over 300 new Fielding, Throwing, and Base running animations

I personally enjoy The ROAD TO THE SHOW mode it really helps to build your character to be a well rounded player by training and suggesting goals to achieve in the intern strengthening the otherwise forgotten pieces to the puzzle.

I have to admit I didn’t really expect to see so many improvements nor did I believe that this many remained to be implemented. It only goes to show Sony’s commitment to franchise and the fans to keep it fresh and at the same time continuing to hone in on the realistic values of the sport as well as its surroundings.

Over all MLB 12 THE SHOW continues to reign supreme over any other baseball title. Improving and polishing the core of the franchise while still coming out with original content and adding things like new controls, animations, physics, modes, it’s no surprise that this is the most sought after baseball game in the marketplace and will continue to be for many years to come.

Overall Score: 8/10

Watching Halo 4 on TV Tonight?

343 and Microsoft might be revealing a big trailer on Conan tonight which is at 11 pm eastern time if your wondering.  Early today they might have hinted it when the released the launch date.

I would check for this since back in 2010 Gears of War 3 was reveled on a late night show.  So I wouldn’t be surprised if Halo 4 gets more light shed on it.  So if you want to do what im going to do watch Conan tonight at 11 pm eastern on TBS.
