Modern Warfare 3 Survival and Spec Ops Review

Having finished up both the campaign and multi-player reviews on this title and by request of a few readers I figured might as well get some time in on the remaining modes Survival and Spec-Ops. After logging almost fourteen hours between the two modes the first thing I have to say is with the exception of missions changing Spec-Ops is the exact same mode as Black-Ops released last year and it’s predecessor MW2.

There are different objectives different maps different enemies but the overall game mode has remained unchanged. The plus side to having this extra game mode is more game time for the money you shelled out seeing the story mode even on hardened mode is easily completed by most in under six hours. I will break down the missions in order though they maybe played in any order you choose. The down side to it is that you are just playing a remix of the story mode over again broken down into separate smaller timed missions with a few changes to keep it interesting.

Stay Sharp : This is a real short version of the obstacle course that has the metal cut outs of the bad guys along with the good guys and you race the clock to complete without harming any civilians. One thing about the course this time around I found it to be way too easy and also way to short.

MileHigh Jack : In this one instead of protecting the president like you did in the campaign story you are actually taking out his personal guards and trying to capture him.

Over Reactor : The Russians have rigged the nuclear sub with explosives in hopes of causing a meltdown. But they are also on the sub at the same time defending it which makes absolutely no sense at all even the hatch to get inside has explosives strapped to it.

Hit And Run : A sizable amount of enemy forces are holding you embassy staff hostage. The objective kills are shown on the map the amount of enemy doesn’t make it easier to complete they get reinforcements. So like the title says you need to hit and run.

Toxic Paradise : Outfitted in a Juggernaut suit you must collect a number of nerve gas samples while fighting off the waves of enemies that have truck mounted 50  calibers and also marking out targets with their smoke for air support bomb runs against your location.

Firewall : This section requires you to hack into the enemy security sentries and make your way to the subway system before your allotted time runs out. This mission requires two players.

Fatal Extraction : Find and collect all five pieces of Intel to help locate your high priority target then take him out.

Hostage Taker : You will need to use stealth to eliminate the guards and find the presidents daughter before they do. They have helicopter support so the need to go unseen is a priority. But wait, didn’t we just highjack the presidents plane and take him hostage on the MileHigh Jack mission?

Charges Set : Another round of the obstacle course with different weapons  more enemies ans explosive breaching still too easy and too short.

Resistance Movement : Make your way through the destroyed downtown streets ‘quietly’ while freeing  and gathering as many rebels from enemy custody as you can and get them to the landing zone for extraction.

Little Bros :  Multiple short missions trying to destroy all the data before the Russians can get a hold of it.

Invisible Threat While suited up as juggernaut use the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) ( to mark the IED’s (Improvised Explosive Devices). While being swarmed with enemy forces and receiving timed back up response from friendly’s. To clear the way so your armor can roll through safely.

Server Crash : Battle through the streets taking out armored trucks full of enemies from the back of a jeep with your grenade launcher. Then get into Volks’ underground hideout and download his master plan.

Resistance Movement : Drop in from the helicopter after taking out a bunch of militia to rid the town of the contraband while they try to stop you.

Flood The Market : Head to the stock exchange floor to retrieve the Russian’s encryption codes.

Fire Mission : Disable enemy anti-air defense and infiltrate their base while using the AC-130 for support. This mission requires two players.

All but two missions can be completed solo though it is much easier to have some help along for the ride. For the most part the best thing about it as I mentioned is extra time that you wouldn’t have if they left it out this time around which would make it a worse deal all together.

Survival mode is more of a challenge with seemingly endless waves of enemies swarming your location with such accuracy that it seems like they have unlimited advanced UAV’s. Though the mode id different from the zombies mode of Black ops you can I feel if it were mostly indoors as zombies was it would feel exactly the same.

If your looking for where the camping aspect has been plaguing this title since the first release look no further this is like basic training for the camp happy style players. It literally tells you from the first seconds of the game to dig in and use all resources available. This mode also gives you unlimited amount of time to train at camp happy find all the best spots try all the best camp strategies on every single map before you go into multi-player and set up your real campy camp.

You start out with the pistol only. Some of the key differences about the weapon systems are in zombies you used the cash generated to buy the weapons on the wall. In survival you can salvage all weapons from the enemies you take out. The ammo also comes along with it but most every enemy gun has around 10 to 15 shots left on it when you pick it up and no grenades to keep it interesting. Also the weapons carried by the enemy only advance as you do so don’t expect to get all the best gear from them right away cause they all carry the same weapons simultaneously.

After completing the first wave your weapons armory will open up map will display a handgun silhouette showing you it’s location at all times. In this case you can use the cash acquired to purchase various items but each one opens up to you at a certain rank as you start to climb the ladder.

Weapons Armory

  • Refill Bullet Ammo ($750)
  • Handguns
  • Machine Pistols
  • Assault Rifles
  • Sub Machine Guns
  • Light Machine Guns
  • Sniper Rifles (Unlocked at level 90)
  • Shotguns
  • Weapons upgrades

The equipment armory is available after wave number two has been completed. This will appear on your heads up display as a frag silhouette.

Equipment Armory

  • Frag Grenade Refill
  • Flash Grenade Refill
  • Claymores – 30 max
  • C4 x5 – 10 max
  • RPG-7 x2 – 4 max
  • Sentry Gun
  • Sentry Grenade Launcher
  • Body Armor
  • Self-Revive
  • Riot Shield

After the third wave has been completed the air support armory will be available. The shape of the predator missile will be the silhouette.

Air Support Armory

  • Predator Missile
  • Air Strike
  • Delta Squad
  • Riot Shield Squad
  • Perk Care Package

Sounds like a lot unlocked right away but remember you still have to rank up and earn the cash to be able to access any of these items. There are four maps to start off with and twelve more you will have to unlock by completing the waves. The waves differ from wave level and map but most consist Bomb squads, attack dogs, choppers, juggernauts and juggernauts with riot shields, chemical warfare, and claymore experts.

I didn’t really find it challenging until the upper teen levels and even then I wasn’t taking full advantage of the armories or weapon upgrades. The good part is starting over doesn’t take as long when you die you can build back up to where you were at pretty quickly. I honestly say that I do like survivors mode more then the zombies of Blops.

You will get more game time for sure with these modes especially if you play all difficulty levels and try to acquire all three stars for every mission. For the most part both of these modes are better then the multi-player aspect of the game just due to the fact that there is no lag, and no aggravating twelve year old’s talking smack.

Overall Score: N/A

Are Yearly Released Games Ruining The Single Player Experience?

As games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Assassin’s Creed continue to be released each year, one must wonder what effect it may have on the single player experience. Other games that stand out are the Uncharted series and God of War, which all deliver passionate, classical one player stories.

Most games today try to include a story mode to give background. However, in many games we see the errors in thought process, with characters not fitting in or being underdeveloped.

I’m sure you can relate to the feeling of making it through to the end only to be underwhelmed as the ending did not happen as you anticipated. The answer is that games like the God of War series continue to offer that one person thrill and set the bar for other games to follow, whether they intended to or not. What are your thoughts on the matter? Are we beginning to see the watering down of single player game modes and games overall?

iFen0m Further Explains His Spawn Camping Exposed Video

iFen0m recently released a video documenting the spawn camping potential of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (see that here). Now here is a further explanation from the YouTube gamer who now says that he could have done things a little better with the release of his video. He wants it to be more clear to people that the purpose of his original video is to expose the problems with MW3 so that they could be improved by the developers. You can see his video below:

Call of Duty is the Most Broken Multiplayer Out: 76 Killstreak in 60 Seconds Video

FPSWin reports on an informative video surfacing from the YouTube Call of Duty community. Many hardcore gamers in the FPS genre have noticed for a long time now that the COD series is becoming, or to some extent has always been, a truly watered down formula. The main purpose of this video, which was created by iFen0m, is to show the broken down map design found in the latest COD game, Modern Warfare 3. Check out the video for yourself. Be on the lookout for more from our own RealGamerNewz archives soon!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 PSN Multiplayer Review

With this latest release to the Call Of Duty Modern Warfare series, MW3, there have been a few changes to the multiplayer mode. While at the same time changes are being made, almost everything from a technical standpoint is the same. For instance, online problems from the previous installment swept under a rug in a dark corner of the room. Whether it is in hopes that nobody notices or just due to the fact that the regime doesn’t really care what hard core gamers think of their work as long as they get bank, we will never truly know.

So the question is what’s new? To start off, the entire kill-streaks reward system has been revamped to something called point-streaks. This new system lets the player acquire points towards their kill-streak reward packages by doing the objectives such as capturing flags or taking bases in domination as well as kills. In other words, you die and still get your kill-streaks.

These are separated into 3 different packages named Assault, Support, and Specialist.

Assault Strike is the exact same and works the same as MW2  and Black Ops did for the kill-streak rewards system. This package will reward you for kill-streaks with packages like the precision airstrike, AC130, and helicopter support and a few new strikes have been added. These packages get reset when you die.

Support Strike has a different set of rewards geared more towards supporting your troops rather then dominating the opponents. It has rewards like Ballistic duffel bags that lay on the ground enough for the whole team to take and they will receive the juggernaut perk while wearing the vest till they die. Or other rewards like Sam turrets, remote turrets, and escort airdrops. The difference with this strike is it does not reset to zero upon death it actually continues to hand out packages.

Specialist Strike rewards every second consecutive kill with a perk of your choosing. But after an eight kill-streak you receive every perk in the game till you die. This also resets kills to zero upon death.

Now I’m not sure if this is better or worse. On the one hand the campers still get rewarded with the dominating weapons while camping for kills. On the other hand, people that are either not camping or just are not good enough to acquire kill-streak rewards gain access to these more weapons and support equipment. You have to also factor in the fact that points towards the rewards are also being gathered from completing objectives.

To me this just means twice as many support weapons flying around than before. I don’t think that it creates a more level playing field, just more of a messy confusion with a bunch of supposed team players plating ib a lone wolf single player mode all their own. As far as the specialist goes, I’m not sure what to make of that yet. We can only hope that some people will be using it to offset the ridiculousness of all the rewards being handed out constantly.

There has also been a change to the ranking and unlock systems. Now instead of using a cash-based system, your primary weapon ranks up with usage to unlock your attachments. Also added to the attachments is the ability to equip your weapon with hybrid scopes which means you can put a short range dot scope and a long range magnified scope similar to ACOG then have the ability to switch between during battle instead of during intermission.

One of the controversial, so-called perks (I call it more of a move) is the stand to prone otherwise known as the “dolphin dive” has been removed from the game. I really don’t see the purpose of removing the move when people still do it, just a little bit slower than before.

If you were going for realistic battle that diving motion is as real as it gets for CoD. I am pretty sure when you’re in a real battle and you come around a corner to see a guy or two unloading clips at your ass you don’t just say, ‘oh okay, I’m gonna  stop first, then kneel down, then lay down before I get to have my head blown off.

The new modes that have been added, Kill Confirmed and Team Defender, are a welcome change. Though I would have liked to have One in the Chamber back in the multi-player mode (from Black Ops Wager Matches) instead of just for private matches – evidence of Treyarch’s absence from this project.

Kill Confirmed requires players to collect floating dog tags from the corpse of downed enemies before the kill can be registered. However, the opposing team can pick up the dog tag as well to deny the other team of a kill.

Team Defender requires both teams to try to capture a flag dropped by the first person who gets killed when the match starts. After that, players must hold it to gain double points per kill while the team without the flag only gets the default amount per kill.

Co-op Mode features a new Survival Mode and also brings back Special Ops.

Survival Mode: this mode has one or two players fighting endless waves of enemies, with each wave becoming increasingly difficult. It just feels like Zombies Remix to me.

The group party invite system seems to be fixed. It no longer requires multiple invites, restarting your system, or just give up on inviting people who can’t seem to join. All things that should never have been a problem to begin with upon release. I have heard plenty of complaints about the matchmaking. Honestly, I have to say I have yet to experience more than a few problems here and there.

My main problem with this game is that the latency is so bad. If the hit detection is not off, it sure looks pretty bad after the latency queuing gets to it. For those of you that don’t know, latency:

“Queuing delay occurs when a gateway receives multiple packets from different sources heading towards the same destination.”

So yes this title still suffers the worst lag issues I have ever seen in an FPS, hands down. What’s Activision’s solution? The Call of Duty ELITE Premium service. That’s right, make everyone pay for something they should have given this series from the start, DEDICATED SERVERS. Unfortunately, the dedicated servers are PC ONLY.

I mean seriously, we need to pay for the servers because the online game-play is unbearable. We are talking about a game series that makes billions in the first 24 hours of each title’s release. That’s just insane from my standpoint but as long as people are stupid enough to dish out the fifty bucks a year, it’s always going to be pay-to-get-good-play.

The maps are the most camper-friendly maps we have seen in the series thus far. The sad part is, that’s exactly what Infinity ward said they were going to reduce and take a look for yourself. There are way too many corner buildings, power positions, and choke points to say the least. The map designs look way too familiar to be considered new in my book. The environments look to be copied-and-pasted from its predecessors MW2 and COD4.

Another issue that remains is the re-spawn time being approximately .05 seconds, and sometimes faster. Why is this a problem? You kill someone and he is back in your face before you can even look at the map and reload. Another instance is when you are killed and you re-spawn so fast that the other guy is still standing where he killed you and kills you again – it’s just insane.

The music is always lackluster in the MW series, but the sound affects seem to have suffered in MW3 for some reason. The sniper rifle sounds like it is shooting by steam. Some shotgun sounds have noticeably been re-used from MW2, like the USAS12. It has the exact same sound as the M1011 from MW2. The chopper gunner needs to sound more like it does when you’re in the chopper instead of the annoying buzzing sound as it’s flying around overhead.

Voice chat is probably the worst it has been in the last three Call of Duty games. What the heck happened here? The host migration is also worse. It seems to be completely dropping the game more times than not. I guess the question posed is how does this happen still when you are on your 8th game in the series? Things are supposed to be getting better every time, especially when it’s just a carbon copy of itself. By this time MW3 has no excuse for failing to be polished to the point of blinding chrome.

The fact that more things have gotten worse rather then better from Black Ops Multiplayer combined with the lag of peer-to-peer console servers produces a sometimes fun, sometimes unbearable online multiplayer game without a terrible amount of difference from its predecessors.

Overall Score: 5 out of 10

Modern Warfare 3 Gets Hacked on Xbox Live, What Else is New?

As we all know most Call of Duty titles have been giant hack lands for hackers. Every iteration of the game has arrived at our doorstep with promises from the developers that this time things would be better. Black Ops saw a small window of time before it resembled Modern Warfare 2 in terms of campers and exploits. Now we have Modern Warfare 3, the game that just released in the Call of Duty series, finally hacked.

It took less than a month. You can now find infected lobbies in the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 according to a new post at MP1st.com. It is unclear if this effects the PlayStation 3 or the PC versions of the game but it is this author’s opinion that it probably effects all of them and is just worse on the Xbox 360 due to the fanbase being more into game-breaking exploits. If you were on the fence about picking up this game and worried about the multiplayer, this may be an indicator that you should just wait until Call of Duty 27 before hopping back in on the franchise.
