Twitch Announces Huge Buy-Out Deal Complete…. With Amazon! (Not YouTube)

Amazon-Instant-Video Twitch TV

In a heartfelt letter to the staff of Twitch and its many, many subscribers as well as broadcasters letting them know that the rumors which had boiled up about a Twitch buyout were not exactly as people thought. It turns out that Twitch will aim to retain many of its same employees, business model, and design vision under Amazon as a new partner. Amazon will acquire Twitch. The CEO of Twitch Emmett Shear had this to say to everyone about the deal which was completed for approximately $970 Million:

“Letter from the CEO
August 25, 2014

Dear Twitch Community,

It’s almost unbelievable that slightly more than 3 years ago, Twitch didn’t exist. The moment we launched, we knew we had stumbled across something special. But what followed surprised us as much as anyone else, and the impact it’s had on both the community and us has been truly profound.

Your talent, your passion, your dedication to gaming, your memes, your brilliance – these have made Twitch what it is today. Every day, we strive to live up to the standard set by you, the community. We want to create the very best place to share your gaming and life online, and that mission continues to guide us.

Together with you, we’ve found new ways of connecting developers and publishers with their fans. We’ve created a whole new kind of career that lets people make a living sharing their love of games. We’ve brought billions of hours of entertainment, laughter, joy and the occasional ragequit. I think we can all call that a pretty good start.

Today, I’m pleased to announce we’ve been acquired by Amazon. We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster. We’re keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon’s support we’ll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch.

I personally want to thank you, each and every member of the Twitch community, for what you’ve created. Thank you for putting your faith in us. Thank you for sticking with us through growing pains and stumbles. Thank you for bringing your very best to us and sharing it with the world. Thank you, from a group of gamers who never dreamed they’d get to help shape the face of the industry that we love so much.

It’s dangerous to go alone. On behalf of myself and everyone else at Twitch, thank you for coming with us.

Emmett Shear, CEO”

Carmageddon: Reincarnation – Damage Tech Trailer [HD]

Carmageddon Reincarnation RealGamerNewz Stainless Games

The Damage Tech Trailer for Carmageddon: Reincarnation is presented below in high definition. This game is expected to become available for PC via the Steam Early Access platform on March 27, 2014. The development studio responsible for this title is Stainless Games whose CEO recently stated that the title is a fulfillment of the true vision the original Carmageddon games had when they were produced back in the late 90s.

Stainless Games CEO Patrick Buckland also elaborated with the following statement, “This time we could finally do the stuff that we wanted to do 17 years ago. More blood was the main thing. Rivers of livers – that’s what we wanted. Being publisher as well as developer means we get to be stupid. Properly, professionally stupid. And this game is stupider than Jupiter. I mean really silly – but in a good way. Nobody else makes games that make you cry with laughter – but we do. And did I mention the livers?”.

Stainless Games is also responsible for the latest string of highly beloved and successful Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers (Wizards of the Coast) video games on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and mobile platforms. Stainless Games has a very colored history and speaks honest and openly with the video games industry and gamer community. Here is a statement from CEO Buckland about why they’ve been out of the public eye until now and how they’ve kept their development skills sharp while awaiting this Carmageddon: Reincarnation project’s big reveal to the world.

“We’ve had a few major projects canned for publishers’ commercial reasons, and publishers just don’t like this sort of information being public,” he explains. We’ve also finished a game where the publisher ended up suing the format holder. The game never made it out and for legal reasons we can’t talk about it. We’ve also ghost-written for developers and publishers where part of the deal is to keep anonymous. All this was to keep the roof over our heads and the mouths fed. Now though, Stainless is far more back and in the public eye!”

Gearbox Software Working On At Least Two New IPs for Next Gen

Borderlands 3

Randy Pitchford (the current CEO of Gearbox Software) announced via an interview with the press recently that their company is not making a Borderlands 3 any time soon. For now, players looking for more Borderlands content should stick to BL2 and keep on the lookout for more announcements in that regard – but while waiting look to Telltale Games’ Tales from the Borderlands crossover title which was announced at VGX 2013.

In regards to major projects at the development studio, Pitchford was quick to say that Borderlands 3 will be a project the team will tackle when they feel like they are ready and dedicated to a new direction for the series. In the meantime though, two new IPs have become the focus for the bulk of Gearbox Software’s energy and are being aimed at the next-generation of consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox ONE).

GTA V Made $800 Million Within One Day

GTAV4

Take-Two has revealed today that Grand Theft Auto V has made approximately $800 million in total sales during the 24 hours of its release. It marks “the highest first day retail sales of any title in the history of the company and the Grand Theft Auto series”.

“All of us at Take-Two are thrilled with the initial response to Grand Theft Auto V,” Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated. “Once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting the entertainment industry’s new standard for creativity, innovation and excellence. Beginning at midnight on Monday, consumers around the world gathered in anticipation to be among the first to experience the evolution of this remarkable series. In North America alone, more than 8,300 stores opened their doors at midnight to welcome fans whose loyalty and enthusiasm were rewarded with what The New York Times called ‘the most immersive spectacle in interactive entertainment’. We are incredibly proud of Rockstar Games’ creative achievement and could not be more pleased with the success of this launch.”

Take note that the figures includes sales across both platforms and all territories except Brazil and Japan; which will see the game’s release later on. GTA V was in development for 5 years and had a budget of $260 million. It’s safe to say that Take-Two has more than enough to cover those expenses.

Grand Theft Auto V is out now on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Its multiplayer component Grand Theft Auto Online will be released on October 1st.

Publisher of Creature Tavern and Bluff Wars 2.0 to Offer Real World Rewards

Creature Tavern

Tired of getting ‘coins’, ‘tokens’, and ‘points’ as rewards for social games? Wouldn’t you rather get real world items/services instead for playing games that you already enjoy? The publisher behind social hits Creature Tavern and Bluff Wars 2.0 which have helped them to reach over $650 million last fiscal quarter will soon release a new series of games that offer exactly that. Exactly what these real world items and services include has yet to be detailed today, however OBJE’s CEO Paul Watson said this about the strategic change in mobile landscape which he and his company are pursuing:

“Essentially, we are giving gamers the option to redeem a product or service for their time spent and a return for the information we use for marketing purposes,”

Jagex Hiring for Next Gen Cross-Platform, Free-to-Play MMORPG PlayStation, Xbox, and Mobile Accounts Manager

Jagex Games Studio, creators of the most popular free-to-play online game RuneScape, have posted a job listing for a Key Account Manager who would be in charge of “creating and driving positive relationships with our platform holders, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Apple and Samsung as well as other platform providers”. Jagex is currently bringing the HTML5 RuneScape 3 to the table for their fans after recently reintroducing the hugely popular RuneScape 2007 (Classic Mode) game back to the market. Now Jagex is also working on a number of other titles including some experimental titles and a new MMO-RPG which may end up on PlayStation, Xbox, iPhone, and Android in one form or another.

This job listing further suggests a next-gen MMO from Jagex to arrive to the major console market finally cashing in on a demand that has been evident for almost a decade since it was proven that Linux on the old PlayStation 3 (pre-updates removal of PS3 Other OS Feature) gamers were already playing RuneScape on PS3 by any hacking means necessary. Could it be, the PlayStation 3 and/or PlayStation 4 may get RuneScape compatibility or the next Jagex MMO? It remains to be seen. You can apply for the job here: CLICK HERE, (Note: This is a real Job Listing from a game publisher, only apply if you have experience handling publishing contracts for major shipped industry titles.

RuneScape CEO had this to say in August 28, 2011: “-we’re well placed to be on all devices soon so we can have a global community.” in addition to claiming that RuneScape will come to PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox and be cross-platform and free-to-play MMO-RPG just like their fans want. This remains to be seen but the job listing posted today (April 14, 2013) will certainly be a step towards the Next Gen Jagex MMO becoming a reality.

Tristans Twisted World:EA’s CEO John Riccitiello has just submitted his letter of resignation

EA’s CEO John Riccitiello has just submitted his letter of resignation to the company’s board. He’s stepping down on March 30 and Larry Probst is stepping in as Executive Chairman. So for what reason is he stepping down? Is it Sim City blunder? Mass Effect 3 ending blunder? Star Wars: The Old Republic not keeping people playing? Or maybe he is simply passing the torch for EA’s leadership into next gen.

**EDITOR’S NOTE (The following were released statements by EA:

“We thank John for his contributions to EA since he was appointed CEO in 2007, especially the passion, dedication and energy he brought to the Company every single day,” said Mr. Probst. “John has worked hard to lead the Company through challenging transitions in our industry, and was instrumental in driving our very significant growth in digital revenues. We appreciate John’s leadership and the many important strategic initiatives he has driven for the Company. We have mutually agreed that this is the right time for a leadership transition.”

On behalf of the Board, Lead Director Richard A. Simonson stated, “As we begin the CEO search, we are fortunate that Larry, who has a proven track record with our employees, partners and customers, has agreed to assume a day-to-day leadership role as Executive Chairman. He has 16 years of experience as CEO of EA and a deep understanding of the Company’s strategy, management team, business potential and industry trends.”

Mr. Riccitiello stated, “EA is an outstanding company with creative and talented employees, and it has been an honor to serve as the Company’s CEO. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and after six years I feel it is the right time for me pass the baton and let new leadership take the Company into its next phase of innovation and growth. I remain very optimistic about EA’s future – there is a world class team driving the Company’s transition to the next generation of game consoles.” Excerpt from full press release by EA

Crysis 3 Had a Wii U Version, But Nintendo Didn’t Follow Through

Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli reveals to the world that Crysis 3 was going to be available on the Nintendo Wii U, but Nintendo didn’t back them up with a publishing license. For any hardcore gaming fans that were hoping to pick up this title for their Wii U, now you know why it isn’t happening. Check out his comments below:

“We did have Crysis 3 running on the Wii U. We were very close to launching it,” Yerli told VentureBeat.

“But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that. Since we as a company couldn’t launch on the Wii U ourselves – we don’t have a publishing license – Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die.”
