“Hate Be The New Love” – Researchers Say Hate Spreads Online Faster Than Any Human Emotion

Chinese researchers of social network activity have stated that hate spreads faster than any human emotion when it comes to online interaction between people. A service similar to Twitter used by the Chinese public has helped provide statistics for this. Positive or joyful messages identified by researchers received far less response and re-posting than negative messages. The same can arguably be said for American social interactions on the internet which seem to be fueled by tabloid-like controversy and emotions of anger / fear / anxiety. What does this mean for the video game industry and its many Public Relations companies? Does this mean hate is the new love? Is all press good press?

Chinese Delegation will have First Presence at Gamescom 2012, notably the largest yearly gaming expo in Europe. This press release gives full mention of Chinese Government encouraging game design and export to other countries, despite China’s closed-in nature. Should a full-scale operation commence from the Multi-Billion Dollar Chinese Gaming Industry, a lot of alien content could be reaching gamers’ hands soon worldwide.

Given how addictive Chinese games can be, mixed with political tension, it will be interesting to see the US market response, should these deals extend West.

The Chinese game enterprises delegation, the first of its kind heading for Europe, was initiated and approved by the Administration of Press and Publication of China, and organized by the Foreign Trade Development Bureau of China’s Ministry of Commerce and Howell International Trade Fair Ltd.
