Pokemon Bank / Poke Transporter Delayed

Pokemon Bank

Nintendo’s eShop is currently down in Europe and North America and another disappointing announcement has come out from the international video game publishing firm responsible for The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., and more. Today Nintendo has announced that Pokemon Bank and Poke Transporter will not arrive on schedule. The $4.99 fee for the Pokemon Bank / Poke Transporter combination is meant for transferring a players’ Pokemon from old Pokemon games to the newly released Pokemon X and Pokemon Y titles.

This is not the first hiccup in the release of these titles. Nintendo also had to patch the game due to large areas corrupting save files and even released a map before the patch showing players exactly where they should and should not save their file in order to prevent corruption of the files. Pokemon Bank offers a 30 day free trial whenever it launches and allows up to 3,000 Pokemon to be stored per player.

**UPDATE: So it seems the US / EU eShop is back online but the Pokemon Bank was originally on there and has been removed instead. Hopefully nobody had their 30 day free trials activated while they sit here waiting for Nintendo to release the app again.

If you’re on the East Coast then the PSN will be down tomorrow afternoon for you (it’ll be down during the morning if you’re on the West Side). The PSN network will be down from 9:15AM to 3:15PM Pacific Time (12:15 PM to 6:15 PM Eastern) tomorrow to be exact. The following maintenance update was provided to gamers today on the PlayStation Community website:

“If you’ve signed onto PSN over the past few days, you’ll still be able to play online and access apps during this period, but you may receive a maintenance notification when attempting to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, and Account Management as these services will be unavailable. Be sure to sign in now if you wish to access the Network during this maintenance window.

Thanks for your patience during this maintenance timeframe, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Gamestop Might Stop Selling Wii U Basic on June 18

The 8G Wii U Basic is going to be discontinued. An internal Gamestop message says that the company will stop selling the 8GB Wii U on June 18th. This might be only Gamestop’s decision, but it’s probable that Nintendo will also decide to focus on the 32GB Deluxe model.

The Wii U prices have lowered before, so it is possible that Nintendo will significantly drop the price of the Wii U to hopefully push sales. At this time, Nintendo and Gamestop have not commented as this is just a rumor, but the source Kotaku, have been right before. If Nintendo does discontinue to 8GB Basic model, we will probably find out on June 11th when a Nintendo Direct Broadcast is planned.

PlayStation Vita Outsells Wii U

Just over 9,600 sales last week for the Nintendo Wii U puts it behind the PlayStation Vita. The home console is causing confusion in the consumer market where potential customers expect that this product offers the Wii experience at home and on the go.

When sales people are forced to deny this feature, as it isn’t the intended purpose of the Wii U, the appeal is lost and so is the sale. PlayStation has done a much better job of establishing what its brand does at home and on the go and how you can use the PlayStation Vita in conjunction with the PS3 and upcoming PS4 to play your favorite PlayStation franchises on the go, and more.

Whether this dip in sales is just a trend or will remain the situation is unclear at this time. There is currently plans being highly publicized and officially confirmed that Nintendo will soon release a Mini Wii. After this final attempt to spark interest in new hardware, Nintendo will have to be patient before making any more moves in the video game hardware manufacturing industry.

Diablo III Servers Down for Maintenance by Blizzard

If you try to get on Diablo III right now you will be met with server busy errors, authentication news prompts, and more. Diablo III has been put offline temporarily at the time of this post, possibly to repair recent patch fixes that have been under demand.

Doing such work the day after release can be seen as a good thing because it proves how dedicated Blizzard is to D3.

Of course this will also knock players off Diablo III completely until they can get the game back up and running, due to the ‘always-online DRM’ being used to some controversy.

Here is the official statement from Blizzard in-game on Diablo III:

BREAKING NEWS:

We’re aware of an issue that is affecting our authentication servers, which may result in failed or slow ogin attempts. We’re currently investigating the cause and will provide updates as they’re available.”

**Note: This issue may not be affecting all players. Blizzard is pretty good though, and should have this fixed up in no time.

**Update: The game appears to be functioning properly again, yet the warning below remains in place, some users may still be experience an outage. For the rest of you, happy killing!:

Rumor: Xbox ‘Live TV’ Project Cancelled

XBOX LIVE TV

You may or may not have heard about the project currently known as Live TV to the gaming community. This feature was announced at the Microsoft E3 2011 Press Conference and according to ongoing reports was originally planned to resemble something beyond the Netflix/Hulu setup to compete with something even more sophisticated – offerings we see from cable providers.

All of this was in the process of being added to Xbox Live with most speculation and rumor hinting at an eventual increased cost for higher-grade membership of Xbox Live that would allow access. In other words, if you want to watch – you would have to upgrade your account and pay extra  at some point for a higher status (Diamond was a nickname among speculators), if not then you would presumably have the option to remain a Gold member.

According to the latest info surrounding this undertaking, which had Microsoft execs talking shop with the likes of HBO to make headlines, the entire project may have been cancelled for the time being. Royalty costs of digital streaming have still been in a transitional stage but we are starting to see owners of digital content value their intellectual properties more than before.

Netflix and Hulu are feeling the crunch and that’s why Netflix has been having to explain itself to customers about increasing fees and decreasing selection while Hulu seemingly planned ahead for this cost increase by leaving advertisements in to help cover content costs. Is it possible this is happening because of an upcoming shift to new hardware – or is does Microsoft believe it’s just too expensive for Xbox Live consumers during the global financial crisis? Only time will tell.

Thanks to VGP via GameGrep for advancements on this ongoing rumor.

Update: As far as we know this shouldn’t have any long-term effects on the YouTube/Bing Voice portions of Live TV.
